Neston Park is an English country house and estate in the village of Neston, some 2 miles (3 km) south of Corsham, Wiltshire. The name of the village of Neston is derived from the name of the house. The present house dates from 1790 and has been extended several times since then. It is ashlar-built in two storeys (three storeys at rear) with a frontage of eight bays, and is Grade II* listed.The grounds of the house contain farmland: the estate extends from north of Neston village, southwards beyond Atworth, to South Wraxall, and includes the certified organic home farm with a herd of Jersey cattle and unusual Aberdeen Angus and Jersey cross-bred cattle. The route of the ancient Roman road from London to Bath crosses the home farm from east to west, about 200 metres (700 feet) south of the house. The local portion of the road is sometimes known as the Wansdyke.

Atworth is a village and civil parish in west Wiltshire, England. The village is on the A365 road between Melksham and Box, about 2.5 miles (4 km) northwest of Melksham and 4 miles (6 km) northeast of Bradford on Avon. The hamlet of Purlpit lies east of Atworth village, and in the south of the parish are the small village of Great Chalfield and the hamlet of Little Chalfield. The Roman road from Silchester to Bath forms the northern boundary of the parish, and to the south of it is the settlement of Beardwell.

South Wraxall Manor is a Grade I listed country house which dates from the early 15th century, at South Wraxall in the English county of Wiltshire, about 3 miles (5 km) north of Bradford on Avon. According to popular legend, the house was the first place tobacco was smoked in England, by Sir Walter Long and his friend Sir Walter Raleigh (although this has also been said of other houses related to Raleigh).

Chapel Plaister is a hamlet in west Wiltshire, England. It lies on the B3109 road between Corsham and Bradford on Avon, about 1 mile (1.6 km) south-east of the village of Box and 2.5 miles (4 km) south-west of the town of Corsham. The settlement takes its name from a small Anglican church which was a roadside refuge for pilgrims travelling to the shrine of Joseph of Arimathea at Glastonbury. Founded circa 1235 and rebuilt in 1340 by Richard Plaisted of Castle Combe, it was dependent on the now lost parish church of Hazelbury, about half a mile to the north-west. In the 15th century the whole building was raised, the west porch added, and the nave and transept made two-storeyed; the nave was used as the hospice for travellers, and the chancel for services. Restoration was carried out in 1893 and 1999. The building was designated as Grade I listed in 1960. Today the church is within the area of the benefice of Box with Hazelbury and Ditteridge.The adjacent Bell House, an inn from the 17th century and now a private house, may have incorporated a hostel connected with the chapel.

Great Chalfield, also sometimes called by its Latin name of Chalfield Magna, formerly East Chalfield and anciently Much Chaldefield, is a small village and former civil parish in west Wiltshire, England, now part of Atworth parish. Its nearest towns are Melksham, about 3 miles (4.8 km) away to the northeast, and Bradford-on-Avon, at about the same distance to the southwest. The village has a notable manor house, Great Chalfield Manor.

The parish includes the village of Lower Wraxall, to the south of South Wraxall; one field separates the two villages. The hamlet of Bradford Leigh is in the southeast of the parish.

Beardwell is a farm and small hamlet in the parish of Atworth, Wiltshire, England.The name appears in the mid-fifteenth century Tropenell Cartulary as Bedewelle, then as Bidwell in 1631, and as Beard Well in a Tithe Award of c. 1840. By comparison with Bidwell in Northamptonshire, the name may be connected with the location of the settlements, as both stand near a Roman road.

Bradford Leigh is a hamlet in Wiltshire, England. It lies in the parish of South Wraxall, about 1.3 miles (2.1 km) northeast of the centre of the town of Bradford on Avon. The area was formerly a tithing of the parish of Bradford on Avon. A Methodist chapel was built in 1892, belonging to the Methodist church at Bradford on Avon; the chapel closed in the mid-20th century.The local pub, the Plough, closed in 2014 and was offered for sale in 2015.

Blue Vein is a hamlet about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Box, Wiltshire, England.Originally a farm, it lies on what was once the principal road between Bath and London. In the 18th century this was converted into a toll road, and a turnpike was placed at Blue Vein with a two-storey house – still standing – constructed to house the toll collector. The Bricker's Barn Trust constructed a London-Bath turnpike route further north in 1761 (now the A4). In the mid-19th century a connecting road was built between the two routes just east of Blue Vein, and the southern route fell out of favour.In the 18th century the Blue Vein turnpike marked the end of the Lacock Turnpike Trust's road from Lacock, before travellers had to cross the open ground of Kingsdown towards the Bath Trust's road into Bathford. This place was renowned for robberies by highwaymen such as John Poulter. In 1737 the Horse and Jockey Inn was built 300 yards down the road to the south-east, where wealthy travellers could stay, and be met and escorted safely to Bath.Halfway between Blue Vein and the former inn, now known as Old Jockey, lie three Bronze Age round barrows on the north side of the road.Blue Vein Farmhouse, built of rubble stone, dates from the 17th century.

The Central Government War Headquarters (CGWHQ) is a 35-acre (14 ha) complex built 120 feet (37 m) underground as the United Kingdom's emergency government war headquarters – the hub of the country's alternative seat of power outside London during a nuclear war or conflict with the Soviet Union. It is in Corsham, Wiltshire, in a former Bath stone quarry known as Spring Quarry, under the present-day MoD Corsham.In 1940, during the Second World War, the site was acquired by the Minister of Aircraft Production and used as an underground engine factory. The war headquarters was commissioned in 1955, after approval by Prime Minister Anthony Eden. However, it became outdated shortly after it was built, due to intercontinental ballistic missiles being able to target it, and the formulation of other plans (such as PYTHON). Nevertheless, the complex continued to have a role in war plans and remained in operation for 30 years.The complex was known variously as "Stockwell", "Subterfuge", "Burlington", "Turnstile", "Chanticleer", "Peripheral", and "Site 3". It was also nicknamed "Hawthorn" by journalist Duncan Campbell, who first revealed its existence in his 1982 book War Plan UK. It was also mentioned by Peter Laurie in his 1979 revised edition of Beneath the City Streets.
