Marshfield, Massachusetts

Marshfield is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Marshfield in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 4,335 at the 2010 census.

The Marshfield Fair is a traditional, American country fair that has taken place at the end of August every year since 1867. The fair is located on the 62-acre (250,000 m2) Marshfield Fairgrounds in Marshfield, Massachusetts, approximately 30 miles (48 km) south of Boston in Massachusetts' South Shore region. The fair features amusement rides, a midway, typical fair food and extensive farm and agriculture exhibits. It is one of the few remaining fairs that still support 4-H shows and competitions. On three days, there are blues music festivals with local and national talent. Regular special events each year include the demolition derby and tractor pulls. The 139th Marshfield Fair took place from August 18 to August 27, 2006. Attendance was estimated at 180,000 visitors. The 144th Marshfield Fair was supposed to take place from August 19 to August 28, 2011, but was forced to close early because of the threat of Hurricane Irene. Weather has played an important factor in the amount of business the fair gets throughout the years. The 153rd was deferred to August 2021 as the COVID-19 pandemic was to blame for 2020's cancellation. There was also no fair in 1917–18 & 1942–45.

WATD-FM (95.9 FM) is a radio station carrying local news and features for the South Shore of Massachusetts (comprising Norfolk and Plymouth counties), with an adult contemporary music format. Founded and owned by local entrepreneur Edward Perry and licensed to Marshfield, Massachusetts, the station went live on December 6, 1977.

Winslow Cemetery, also known as the Old Winslow Burying Ground, is a historic cemetery on Winslow Cemetery Road in Marshfield, Massachusetts. Established about 1651, it is the oldest cemetery in Marshfield. Notable burials in the cemetery include founders and early residents of the Plymouth Colony, and 19th-century politician Daniel Webster. The cemetery, now owned and maintained by the town, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

The Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary owned by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the largest conservation organization in New England, in the town of Marshfield, Massachusetts. The sanctuary, formerly the farm of Edward Dwyer, statesman Daniel Webster and the William Thomas family of Marshfield, the first English landowner to live on the sanctuary land, was purchased by Mass Audubon in 1984 thanks to the volunteer efforts of the Committee for the Preservation of Dwyer Farm for the People of Marshfield. The sanctuary contains 507 acres (2.1 km2) of mixed cultural grasslands, red maple swamps, a five-tiered wet panne, Webster Pond and a section of the Green Harbor River. It is the site of the annual Daniel Webster Farm Day celebration. Surrounding lands owned by the town of Marshfield and the Marshfield Airport increase the local open space area to more than 1000 acres (4 km2).

The Thomas–Webster Estate is a historic estate at 238 Webster Street in Marshfield, Massachusetts. It is most notable for its association with the politician and statesman Daniel Webster, who owned a large (more than 1,000-acre (400 ha)) property in Marshfield, and is buried here along with other members of his family. The core of the estate was a farmstead Webster purchased from Nathaniel Thomas in 1832. Webster was known for his interest in agricultural science, and he made his farm one of the most productive in the area. Webster's house burned down in 1878, but a new house was built on its foundations. The property includes a number of landscape features designed by Webster, as well as the site where his small law office building stood during his lifetime. (The building, now a National Historic Landmark, was moved in 1966 to the property of the Isaac Winslow House, also a museum property.)A summer camp was run on the site, with the main house serving as its administrative office, from the 1950s until its closing in the summer of 1998. The estate was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. It is currently owned by the town of Marshfield and is open for tours during the summer.

Marshfield High School (MHS) is located in Marshfield, Massachusetts, United States. It currently serves grades 9–12, and has a student population, as of 2013, of over 1300 students. The principal of the school is Amy Cetner. It is the only public high school in Marshfield, and there are no private high schools located in Marshfield.

The Daniel Webster Law Office and Library, also known as Daniel Webster Law Office, is a National Historic Landmark on the grounds of the Isaac Winslow House at 64 Careswell Street in Marshfield, Massachusetts. The office was built in 1832 for Daniel Webster as part of his expansive Marshfield estate. It housed part of his collection of law and agricultural books, and served as a retreat from the main house. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1974, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.The law office is a small, single-room, single-story wood-frame structure with a gable roof. It is sheathed in clapboards, and has 12-over-12 sash windows on two sides, with the door on a third side. The fourth side has two windows framing a central fireplace. The office stands on ground that was once part of Webster's large (more than 1,200-acre (490 ha)) "Green Fields" estate, which he made his home from 1832 until his death in 1852. Webster's main house burned down in 1878, although it was rebuilt by the family, making this the only building associated with Webster on his estate to survive. In 1966 the local historical society rescued the law office, then in poor condition, from demolition, and moved it to its present location. Its original location is on the grounds of the Thomas–Webster Estate, a town-owned property that is also open to the public. The building may be seen as part of the Winslow House museum. As of May 2015 The Law Office has been return to the grounds of the Daniel Webster Estate. The Marshfield Historical Commission is responsible for Daniel Webster's law office, a National Historic Landmark owned by the town. This is the original building used as an office by Webster at his Green Harbor estate. The law office will be open to the public after much needed renovation.

The Isaac Winslow House, also known as the Winslow House Museum, is a mansion located in Marshfield, Massachusetts built around 1700. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Cedar Crest is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Marshfield, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. It is named for a hill on the north side of Careswell Street. It is bordered to the south by the town of Duxbury and to the southeast by the community of Green Harbor. Cedar Crest was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. At the 2010 census, Cedar Crest and neighboring Green Harbor were part of a single CDP known as Green Harbor-Cedar Crest.

Ocean Bluff-Brant Rock is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States, composed of the neighborhoods of Ocean Bluff, Brant Rock, Fieldston, and Rexhame in the town of Marshfield. The population of the CDP was 4,970 at the 2010 census.

Humarock (often called Humarock Beach or Humarock Island) is part of Scituate, Massachusetts, United States. Humarock is a picturesque seaside village surrounded by water and situated on Cape Cod Bay midway between Boston and Plymouth. It was separated from the rest of the town in the Portland Gale of 1898 in which the mouth of the North River shifted. Humarock is now accessible from Scituate only by boat or from the Town of Marshfield by bridge.
