West Auckland (Māori: Te Uru o Tāmaki Makaurau) is one of the major geographical areas of Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. Much of the area is dominated by the Waitākere Ranges, the eastern slopes of the Miocene era Waitākere volcano which was upraised from the ocean floor, and now one of the largest regional parks in New Zealand. The metropolitan area of West Auckland developed between the Waitākere Ranges to the west and the upper reaches of the Waitematā Harbour to the east. It covers areas such as Glen Eden, Henderson, Massey and New Lynn. West Auckland is within the rohe of Te Kawerau ā Maki, whose traditional names for the area were Hikurangi, Waitākere, and Te Wao Nui a Tiriwa, the latter of which refers to the forest of the greater Waitākere Ranges area. Most settlements and pā were centred around the west coast beaches and the Waitākere River valley. Two of the major waka portages are found in the area: the Te Tōanga Waka (the Whau River portage), and Te Tōangaroa (the Kumeū portage), connecting the Waitematā, Manukau and Kaipara harbours. European settlement of the region began in the 1840s, centred around the kauri logging trade. Later industries developed around kauri gum digging, orchards, vineyards and the clay brickworks of the estuaries of the Waitematā Harbour, most notably at New Lynn on the Whau River. Originally isolated from the developing city of Auckland on the Auckland isthmus, West Auckland began to expand after being connected to the North Auckland railway line in 1880 and the Northwestern Motorway in the 1950s.

Westgate busway station, also known as Northwest busway station, is a planned bus station on Auckland's Northwestern Busway in New Zealand. It will be located off Gunton Drive in the suburb of Westgate. It will have an indoor waiting area, electronic real-time information in the waiting area, bike parking, and a customer service kiosk.The next station southbound on the busway will be the Lincoln Road interchange. It will be the northbound terminus, though there have been proposals to continue the busway onwards to serve Kumeū and Huapai. The station will have 8 sawtooth bays for buses to wait in prior to departure, with individual bus stops both on Gunton Drive and within the station.

Te Manawa (Westgate) is a community hub located in Auckland, New Zealand. It is Auckland Council’s first fully-integrated community hub which unofficially opened its doors to the public on 26 March 2019. The official opening by the Mayor of Auckland Phil Goff took place on 6 April 2019 which was followed by a community open day attracting around 5,000 visitors. Te Manawa's services and resources include a library, Council Services, rooms for hire, commercial kitchen, studios, creative spaces, community programmes, work and study areas along with a Citizens Advice Bureau. It immediately serves the suburbs of Westgate, Massey, West Harbour and Hobsonville along with visitors from across Auckland.

NorthWest Shopping Centre is a shopping mall located in Westgate, a suburb in the northwest of Auckland, New Zealand. It is situated on the other side of Fred Taylor Drive from the pre-existing Westgate Shopping Centre. The shopping centre was opened on 1 October 2015 and consists of 100 shops on 2.7 hectares (27,000 m2) of internal floorspace. Major anchor tenants at the mall include Farmers and Countdown. NorthWest is owned and managed by Stride Property (formerly DNZ Property Fund).At the time of its opening it was expected to create up to 700 jobs.NorthWest Stage 2 was opened in October 2016 and contains restaurants, retailers and offices around Te Pumanawa Square. Another 300 jobs were created by the 7,700 square metre extension, in addition to the existing 700 jobs.In 2017, Auckland Council and the developer of the mall sought dispute resolution over deferred payment of fees. There were also issues of use of a traffic island that was part of the council's plan for an intersection upgrade, and the need to abandon a bus interchange on a footpath that was on land owned by the developer.As of 2017, the mall has 32,500 m2 of lettable area.

Westgate is a quickly developing regional town centre in the northwest of West Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand. The suburb in which it is located was changed from "Massey North" to "Westgate" in 2013. The area was part of Waitakere City from 1989 to 2010 and its transformation is now a priority for Auckland Council. The new regional town centre being built will be the hub for retail and commercial activity in the north west. The council has a number of development partners and will itself create the centre's new civic heart including a new library - Te Manawa located south-west to Te Pumanawa Square. NorthWest Shopping Centre located north-east to Te Pumanawa Square opened on 1 October 2015. As a part of NorthWest Stage 2 development, restaurants, retailers and offices around Te Pumanawa Square have gradually opened their doors since October 2016. The town square will feature areas for outdoor dining and the large civic space will be pedestrian friendly. A high quality and extensive network of parks and walkways will also be created. Linking to Westgate's rapid commercial development, a Costco Wholesale warehouse club opened on 28 September 2022: the first in New Zealand. It currently has a food court, petrol station, tyre centre, and optometrist.

The Westgate Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge is a 209 metres (686 ft) long motorway overbridge crossing the Northwestern Motorway near Westgate in Auckland, New Zealand. Construction began in late 2012 and was completed in January 2013.The 3-metre-wide (9.8 ft) bridge catering for both pedestrians and cyclists, as well as mobility-impaired users. It was designed and built by Jasmax architects, Aurecon Consulting Engineers and HEB Construction, and cost approximately $6 million, paid for by Auckland Transport and NZTA. The initial bridge works included work in the Manutewhau Walk Reserve on the eastern side of the bridge, including replacing pine trees with native trees.Initially, the main function is to provide a west–east connection for the local area, though in the long run, it is intended to link into a future extension of the Northwestern Cycleway up to the bridge.

Whenuapai is a suburb and aerodrome located in northwestern Auckland, in the North Island of New Zealand. It is located on the northwestern shore of the Waitematā Harbour, 15 kilometres to the northwest of Auckland's city centre. It is one of the landing points for the Southern Cross telecommunications Cables. The name is Māori for good land.

RNZAF Base Auckland is a Royal New Zealand Air Force base located near the upper reaches of the Waitematā Harbour in Auckland, New Zealand. The base formerly comprised two separate airfields, Whenuapai and RNZAF Station Hobsonville. Hobsonville was established as a seaplane station in 1928 and was the RNZAF's primary flying boat base in New Zealand until 1967. Construction of Whenuapai as a base for Vickers Wellington bomber aircraft began in 1937, the hangars being built in 1939. Whenuapai was also Auckland's civil international airport from 1945 to 1965. After World War II Auckland became a centre for RNZAF transport and maritime squadrons. RNZAF Station Hobsonville was administratively joined with Whenuapai in 1965 to become RNZAF Base Auckland. Hobsonville subsequently became a grass airfield for No. 3 Squadron RNZAF, which later moved to Ohakea. A New Zealand Army unit comprising various personnel from different regiments as well as the New Zealand Special Air Service were relocated to Papakura Military Camp in 2003.Whenuapai was expected to close as well, with the Labour Government attempting to centralise the RNZAF at Ohakea. Infrastructure company Infratil and Waitākere College local body leaders studied the feasibility of developing Whenuapai into a commercial airport if the RNZAF moved to Ohakea. In 2009, the National Government overturned the Labour government's decision and decided to retain the air force base at Whenuapai and implemented a reconstruction programme.A significant reconstruction phase has begun at RNZAF Base Whenuapai since the start of 2011, major works have been carried out on the main runway, taxiways, and also the relocation of several units from RNZAF Base Hobsonville. Further development will ensure the RNZAF will remain at the present location. A significant government spending programme has been carried out to ensure the present base is brought up to standard. In 2016 new facilities were under construction to replace those lost with the closure of RNZAF Base Hobsonville or closed due to non-compliance with increased earthquake safety standards introduced following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. This involves a new gymnasium, accommodation, a 25-metre weapons range, and a medical facility. All projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2016. Additional funding will also improve areas to the flight line and aprons after a $30 million upgrade on the main runway and taxiways was completed in 2012. Whenuapai and Hobsonville have both been used as Hollywood movie locations. In 1988 aircraft and base personnel were used for the film The Rescue. In 2004, the first scene for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was shot at the site (the railway scene). In 2012, Whenuapai was used for the film Emperor. In January 2023, the P-3 Orions were retired from service, with 5 Squadron RNZAF relocating to RNZAF Base Ohakea with the P-8 Poseidon. About 250 personnel will move to Ohakea as part of the relocation. The personnel strength is around 1500.

Massey High School is a co-educational state secondary school in West Auckland, New Zealand established in 1969. The school is located on the western edge of the city, thus obtaining students from both suburban and rural backgrounds. In 2017 it was rated decile 4.

Massey is a northern suburb in West Auckland, New Zealand. It was formerly a northern suburb of Waitakere City, which existed from 1989 to 2010 before the city was amalgamated into Auckland Council. The suburb was named after former Prime Minister of New Zealand William Massey. Massey is a relatively large suburb and can be divided into three reasonably distinctive areas, Massey West, Massey East (separated by the north-western motorway) and Massey North (situated to the north of Royal Road). Parts of Massey East are also known as 'Royal Heights', which is home to the Royal Heights shopping centre. The suburb features the Massey YMCA Leisure Centre, Library. The Westgate Shopping Centre on Hobsonville Road next to the north-western motorway and NorthWest Shopping Centre (which opened in October, 2015) to the north of Hobsonville Road are north of Massey.

The Massey Rugby Club is a New Zealand rugby union club located in Massey, West Auckland. They are part of the North Harbour Rugby Union and compete in their competitions. Their colours are red, yellow and blue Hoops, with blue shorts, and red, yellow and blue hooped socks. Their premier team has been crowned North Harbour Club Rugby Champions on 6 occasions (1993, 2004, 2005, 2013, 2015, and 2016). Kumeū is a town in the Auckland Region, situated 25 kilometres (16 mi) north-west of the City Centre in New Zealand. State Highway 16 and the North Auckland Line pass through the town. Huapai lies to the west, Riverhead to the north, Whenuapai to the east, and Taupaki to the south.The wider area has been settled by Tāmaki Māori since the 13th or 14th centuries, and the area is of significant importance to Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara and Te Kawerau ā Maki. The Kumeū River valley was an important transport node between the Kaipara and Waitematā harbours, due to a portage called Te Tōangaroa, where waka could be hauled overland. Kumeū village developed in the 1870s after the construction of the Kumeu–Riverhead Section, a railway on Te Tōangaroa that linked Kumeū to Riverhead. Over the latter 19th century, the town transitioned from a centre for the kauri logging and kauri gum trades into an agricultural centre. The Kumeu Stockyards opened in 1915, and from 1921 the town began holding a large-scale agricultural show called the Kumeu Show. By the 1940s, Croatian New Zealanders had developed a winemaking industry in the area. Since the 1970s, Kumeū and Huapai have grown to become a single urban area, often referred to as Kumeū-Huapai.
