Penstrowed is a historic Montgomeryshire parish to the west of Newtown, now in the community of Mochdre with Penstrowed, Powys, Wales .

Scafell Halt was a railway station on the Cambrian Line, located to the west of Newtown, Powys, Wales; it was adjacent to Scafell Bridge on the River Severn. The station was opened in 1863 and closed in July 1891, before reopening on 9 June 1913; it closed finally to passengers in 1952 and closed completely in 1955.

Mochdre () is a small village in the community of Mochdre with Penstrowed, in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales.

Mochdre with Penstrowed (Welsh: Mochdre gyda Phenystrywaid), or just Mochdre, is a community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales. The community includes Mochdre, Penstrowed (which claims to be the smallest hamlet in Wales) and the much larger settlement of Stepaside. The community had a population of 494 as of the 2011 UK Census.The community also elects up to seven community councillors to Mochdre with Penstrowed Community Council.

Moat Lane Junction was a railway junction in Montgomeryshire near to the village of Caersws in mid-Wales. It was the junction where the Newtown and Machynlleth Railway opened in 1863 diverged from the Llanidloes and Newtown Railway which opened four years earlier. Although having only three through platforms, by rural standards it was a busy interchange station and in its heyday possessed a refreshment room. Moat Lane Junction is often quoted as a defining feature of the Great Western Railway in Wales, namely its inheritance of junctions in unlikely and inconvenient locations. Other examples are Afon Wen, Talyllyn Junction, Dovey Junction and Barmouth Junction (renamed Morfa Mawddach in 1960).

Maesmawr Hall is a historic timber-framed house, situated to the southeast of Caersws, in the historic county of Montgomeryshire, which now forms part of Powys in Wales. It is currently run as a hotel. A long avenue approaches the front of the property from the south.

Newtown West (formerly Newtown Llanllwchaiarn West or Llanllwchaiarn West) is the name of an electoral ward in the community of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, Powys, Wales.

Newtown Central was the name of a county electoral ward in the town of Newtown, Powys, Wales. It remains as a community ward to Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council.

Caersws (Welsh: Caersŵs; pronounced [kɑːɨrˈsuːs] ) is a village and community on the River Severn, in the Welsh county of Powys (Montgomeryshire) 5 miles (8 km) west of Newtown, and halfway between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury. It has a station on the Cambrian Line from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury. At the 2011 Census, the community had a population of 1,586 – a figure which includes the settlements of Clatter, Llanwnnog and Pontdolgoch. The village itself had a population of slightly over 800.

Gregynog (Welsh pronunciation: [ɡrɛˈɡənɔɡ]) is a large country mansion in the village of Tregynon, 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of Newtown in the old county of Montgomeryshire, now Powys in mid Wales. There has been a settlement on the site since the twelfth century. From the fifteenth to the nineteenth century it was the home of the Blayney and Hanbury-Tracy families. In 1960 it was transferred to the University of Wales as a conference and study centre by Margaret Davies, granddaughter of the nineteenth century industrial magnate and philanthropist, David Davies 'Top Sawyer' of Llandinam. The gardens and park surrounding the house are listed at Grade I on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.
