Blackwater River (West Virginia)

The Dry Fork is a 39.1-mile-long (62.9 km) tributary of the Black Fork of the Cheat River in the Allegheny Mountains of eastern West Virginia, USA. Via the Black Fork, the Cheat, and the Monongahela and Ohio rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. The Dry Fork flows for much of its length in the Monongahela National Forest and drains mostly rural and forested areas. It was traditionally considered one of the five Forks of Cheat.

Hendricks is a town in Tucker County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 226 at the 2020 census. The Blackwater River and the Dry Fork join at Hendricks to form the Black Fork, a principal tributary of the Cheat River.

Olson Observation Tower is one of the few remaining fire towers in Monongahela National Forest. Olson is located at the southern end of Backbone Mountain northeast of Parsons in Tucker County, West Virginia. The southern end of Backbone Mountain is the site of West Virginia's first fire tower, originally built by the state in 1922. This tower was later given to Monongahela National Forest, which replaced it in 1963 with the current tower. The current tower is constructed of steel and features 133 steps leading to a cab on top. While the cab is not open to the public, the entire walkway up to the top is accessible. The tower provides 360-degree views of the surrounding area including the Cheat River watershed, Parsons, Blackwater Canyon, Canaan Mountain, Backbone Mountain and the Otter Creek Wilderness. Olson Tower is named after Ernst B. Olson in recognition of 28 years of fire control and conservation program service to Monongahela National Forest.

Tucker County High School is a secondary school located in Hambleton, West Virginia, with approximately 300 students. It is located at 116 Mountain Lion Way, and serves all of Tucker County. The current principal is Alex Cork.

For many years, it has been the object of controversy as environmental activists have contended with industrial (power, timber, development) interests over its ultimate status.

Horseshoe Run is a stream in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is a tributary of the Cheat River. Horseshoe Run was so named because it enters the Cheat at Horseshoe Bend, a horseshoe-shaped meander in the river.

Backbone Mountain is a ridge of the Allegheny Mountains of the central Appalachian Mountain Range. It is situated in the U.S. states of West Virginia and Maryland and forms a portion of the Eastern Continental Divide. Within the state of Maryland, Backbone Mountain reaches an elevation of 3,360 feet or 1,024 metres, making it Maryland's highest point.

Elk is an unincorporated community in Tucker County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The community's name is derived from its earlier one, Elklick. Elk is located on West Virginia Route 72.

St. George Academy is a historic school building located in St. George, Tucker County, West Virginia, United States. Construction started in 1885 and finished in 1886, and is a two-story clapboard building with a projecting bay. It features a square tower with a peaked vent on each side and topped by a pyramidal roof with a spiked finial. In 1975–76, a new school was erected behind the old academy structure, and in 1982, the old school building was condemned by the state fire marshal and ordered to be razed or removed. It was moved to its present site in 1985 by the local historical society, and houses a local history museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
