Meols Cop railway station

Norwood is an area and Metropolitan Borough of Sefton ward in the Southport Parliamentary constituency that covers the localities of Blowick and Highpark in the town of Southport.

Blowick is a suburb on the east side of the town of Southport, Merseyside, England.

Meols Cop High School (often abbreviated to MCHS) is a coeducational secondary school located in Southport, Merseyside, England. The school was opened in 1941 and originally consisted of two separate single sex secondary modern schools. One half of the building accommodated the girls and one half the boys – the hall was shared. In 1979 the two schools amalgamated to form Meols Cop High School under the leadership of Alan Hall, the boy's secondary modern head teacher. The school now has over 700 students and the current head teacher is Mr Ian Parry as of June 2019. The school subjects consist of Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Religious education, Physical education, Personal social development, Business studies, Art, Food Technology, Design Technology, Computing, Resistant Materials, Drama, and Spanish. In 2012, Ofsted reported the school as being 'Outstanding' in all areas.As of 2017, Meols Cop High School is a member of the Education Endowment Foundation's Research Schools Network.Previously a community school administered by Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council, in April 2023 Meols Cop High School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the Southport Learning Trust.

Blowick railway station was on the Manchester and Southport Railway in the Blowick suburb of Southport, Merseyside. Situated on a level crossing on Meols Cop Road (B5276), the station opened as Cop End in early 1871, and was renamed Blowick on 1 October 1871. The station closed on 25 September 1939, and this section of the line closed on 14 June 1965, forcing trains to divert through Meols Cop on a section of the old Liverpool, Southport and Preston Junction Railway.

Southport Football Club is an association football club based in Southport, Merseyside. They play their home matches at Haig Avenue, which has a capacity of 6,008. They are known by their nickname "the Sandgrounders". The club's main honour is winning the 1972–73 Football League Fourth Division championship and they have won a number of titles in non-League football. Founded in 1888 as Southport Central, the club were members of regional leagues such as the Lancashire League, the Lancashire Combination and The Central League for many years until 1921 when they were invited to become a founding member of the newly formed Football League Third Division North. Southport held membership of The Football League from 1921 to 1978. They failed to gain re-election in 1978 and since then have been members of the Northern Premier League (1978 to 1993), the Football Conference (1993 to 2003) and then the Northern Premier League Premier Division (2003–04). Southport were transferred to the new National League North in 2004 and, since then, have played in either that division (tier 6) or the tier 5 National League. In 2017, Southport were relegated from tier 5 to tier 6 and currently (2023–24) they are again playing in the National League North. Southport's best performance in the FA Cup came in the 1930–31 tournament when they reached the quarter-finals (last eight) but were then beaten 9–1 by Everton at Goodison Park. Southport had another good FA Cup run in 1965–66 when they reached the fifth round (last sixteen) and were beaten 2–0 by Hull City at Boothferry Park. Southport took part in the Football League Cup from 1960 to 1978 but never progressed beyond the first two rounds. The team reached the final of the FA Trophy in 1997–98, played at the old Wembley Stadium, but lost 1–0 to Cheltenham Town. Prior to their formation, a number of amateur sides played football in the town, the earliest of which was formed in 1881 from the remnants of a failed Rugby team, and participated in the FA Cup in the 1882–83 tournament. Butts Lane Halt was a railway station in the Blowick suburb of Southport, Merseyside.

Haig Avenue (currently known as The Big Help Stadium for sponsorship reasons and originally known as Ash Lane) is a football stadium in Blowick, Southport, Merseyside, England, that holds 6,008 people (1,660 seated, 4,164 standing) Since its opening in 1905 it has been the home ground of Southport Everton Reserves also use the stadium for home games.

King George V Sixth Form College (KGV) is a sixth form college in Southport, Merseyside, England. It provides A-level and BTEC education, and between 2009 and 2012 offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma. It was previously a grammar school for boys. The college has the distinction of being placed consistently in the top 10 sixth form and further education colleges in the country for A-level results, and has won a number of Good Schools Guide awards.King George V College merged with Southport College in January 2018. The combined colleges maintain their separate identities and offer A-level and Vocational education.

Hesketh Park railway station was on the West Lancashire Railway in England. It was close to Hesketh Park in Southport.

Meols Cop () is a small area within the Blowick suburb, in the coastal town of Southport, Merseyside in north-western England. It is not a suburb or ward in its own right. It is not to be confused with Meols on the Wirral Peninsula. The two can be differentiated by pronunciation — Meols Cop is pronounced Meels, but Meols, Wirral is pronounced Mells. The area is served by station of the same name with trains to Southport railway station or Wigan Wallgate railway station and beyond. Meols Cop railway station opened on 2 September 1887, and served both lines. The line from Butts Lane Junction to Altcar and Hillhouse closed on 26 September 1938, but the line through Meols Cop is still open today. As in 1965, the direct line from Pool Hey Junction to St Luke's closed and trains to and from Wigan were diverted to run via the former Altcar line and a section of the former Southport to Preston line. Meols Cop railway station remained open and is served by Wigan and Southport trains today; goods train services were however withdrawn on 27 November 1967.

High Park is a suburb of Southport, Merseyside, England. It is located on the eastern fringe on the town, just south of Churchtown. High Park Road is within the area of Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council Council who provide services such as refuse collection and are responsible for the collection of council tax.

Southport Gas Holder was once the tallest structure in the northern town of Southport, England for 40 years. The 84.5 m (277 ft) high structure could be seen from miles around, for example from Blackpool and Winter Hill. To some people of the local area it was an instantly recognisable symbol of home coming after being away for weeks. It was built in 1969 in the Blowick area of Southport (1.7 miles from the town centre) – grid reference SD362167. It acted as a storage unit guaranteeing the town's gas supply. Similar structures were built across the country when town gas was generated from coal and before the construction of a high pressure gas grid.
