Obernai

The canton of Obernai is an administrative division of the Bas-Rhin department, northeastern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Obernai.It consists of the following communes:

Bernardswiller (German: Bernhardsweiler, Alsatian: Batschwiller) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in northeastern France.

Goxwiller (French pronunciation: [ɡɔksvilɛʁ] ; German: Goxweiler) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France.

Bischoffsheim (French pronunciation: [biʃofsaim] ; German: Bischofsheim im Elsass; Alsatian: Bìsche) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Grand Est in northeastern France.

Église Saint-Étienne de Rosheim is a church in Rosheim, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France. Originally built in the 13th century, it was last built in 1788. It became a registered Monument historique in 1990.

Domaine de la Léonardsau is a château in the commune of Obernai, in the department of Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France. It is a listed historical monument since 1986.

Niedernai (German: Niederehnheim) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France. It is located 26km south west of Strasbourg, 23km north of Sélestat and 50km north of Colmar on the main A35 road. Niedernai dates back to pre-Roman times. In 707, it was part of the lands of the Feldkirch monastery, founded by the Benedictine monks of Moyenmoutier. From 1284, it was the seat of the Landsberg family, who built a fortified castle. The remnants of the castle can be seen in the "Glockenturm" watchtower. The former Sainte Barbe church dates from 1741. By the 1850s it was too small for the congregation, so plans were begun for a new church. The parish church of Saint Maximin was built between 1891 and 1893. The former Sainte Barbe church is now a school. Niedernai is characterised by traditional wood-framed houses.

Klevener de Heiligenstein, also known in English by its German name, Heiligensteiner Klevener, is a designation used on Alsace wine made from pink-skinned Savagnin rose grapes, a variety in the Traminer family, but which is less aromatic than Gewürztraminer, which is widely planted in Alsace. The designation may be allowed for selected vineyards in the villages Bourgheim, Gertwiller, Goxwiller, Heiligenstein and Obernai but, under current appellation rules, the designation may be used until 2021 for specified existing vineyards outside the designation area. Since Savagnin rose is not a permitted variety for other Alsace wines, its replanting outside this area is not allowed. Since most Alsace wines are varietally labeled, it is a common misunderstanding to believe "Klevener de Heiligenstein" to be a local variety. In fact, it is the only geographical designation within the Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Alsace.

Rosheim (French pronunciation: [ʁo.sajm] ; Alsatian: Rose) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France.It lies 25 km (16 mi) southwest of Strasbourg, on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains. It is a winemaking town on the tourist "Road of the Wines of Alsace" and the Route Romane d'Alsace ("Romanesque route of Alsace").

Bourgheim (French pronunciation: [buʁɡajm] ; German: Burgheim) is a commune in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace in north-eastern France.

The history of Alsace has been influenced by the Rhine and its tributaries, a favorable climate, fertile loess soils, and the region's relative accessibility through and around the Vosges. Since then, suzerainty and effective control have shifted among competing European powers, including the Kingdom of Alamannia, the Frankish Empire, Lotharingia, the Holy Roman Empire, France, and the German Empire. Alsace has remained part of France since the end of the Second World War.
