The bridges link the St George area at Blakehurst to the Sutherland Shire at Sylvania. Tom Uglys Bridge is one of six major road crossings of Georges River. The 1929 Pratt truss bridge is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register and carries three lanes of northbound vehicular traffic on the Princes Highway. The 1987 concrete box girder bridge was built to the east of the older bridge and carries the three southbound lanes of the highway. Both bridges have shared bicycle and pedestrian pathways.

Surrounded by the suburbs of Sylvania Waters and Caringbah, Taren Point is on the peninsula where the Captain Cook Bridge crosses north over the Georges River to Sans Souci, in the St George area. It contains a mix of residential, commercial and some industrial areas. The residential area is located along the bank of the Georges River, at the mouth of Botany Bay. Most of the commercial and industrial areas are centred on Taren Point Road and to the east towards Woolooware Bay.

Established in 1964 as Endeavour High School, the school caters to approximately 1,000 students from Year 7 to Year 12. It is a selective, comprehensive co-educational school which bases its enrolment on students being proficient in a targeted sport or living in the relatively small local catchment area of the school. The school is operated by the New South Wales Department of Education; the principal is James Kozlowski. Endeavour Sports High School is a member of the NSW Sports High Schools Association. The school's alumni include many former and current sportspeople, and Endeavour Sports High School is well regarded in its sporting development of its students.
