The A595 road and A596 road pass through the parish.There is a parish council, the lowest tier of local government.Winscales Moor Wind Farm is in the north of the parish, and there are industrial developments. The parish council describes the parish as "primarily industrial with few residential properties".In Winscales hamlet there is a pub with the unusual name of "Oily Johnnies" or "Oily's". It was previously the Royal Oak but was renamed after a previous landlord who sold paraffin oil from a shed beside the pub.

Camerton is a small village and civil parish in Cumbria, historically part of Cumberland, near the Lake District National Park in England. According to older maps, it was originally called "Camberton". The village is situated about 1 mile (1.6 km) north-east of Seaton, 3.9 miles (6.3 km) north-east of Workington and 7.8 miles (12.6 km) west of Cockermouth. It's linked by road to Great Broughton and Flimby, and there was a small footbridge over the river to Great Clifton however this was destroyed by the floods of November 2009. It has a population of 172, increasing slightly to 174 at the 2011 Census.

Stainburn is a settlement and former civil parish about 7 miles from Whitehaven, now in the parish of Workington, in the Allerdale district, in the county of Cumbria, England. In 2018 the built-up area had an estimated population of 1705. Stainburn was also a ward, in 2011 the ward had a population of 1694. In 1961 the parish had a population of 246. Stainburn was on the A66 road until 20 December 2002 when it was bypassed.

Bridgefoot is a village in Cumbria, historically part of Cumberland, near the Lake District National Park in England. It is situated at the confluence of the River Marron and Lostrigg Beck, approximately 1 mile south of the River Derwent. To the south it is seamlessly joined with the village of Little Clifton.

Little Clifton is a village and civil parish in the district of Allerdale located on the edge of the Lake District in the county of Cumbria, England. In 2001, it had a population of 391 and contained 170 households; increasing to a population of 480 in the 2011 Census with 207 households.The village of Little Clifton is 3.5 miles (6 km) east of Workington. The River Derwent is roughly 1 mile (2 km) north of Little Clifton. In 1887, John Bartholomew, whilst writing for the Gazetteer of the British Isles, described Little Clifton as a township of 489 persons next to Workington. Workington was, at that time, a district within the former county of Cumberland.

Seaton railway station served the village of Seaton, near Workington in Cumberland (now in Cumbria), England.The station was opened by the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway (C&WJR) in 1888 on its new "Northern Extension" from Calva Junction on the northern edge of Workington to the Maryport and Carlisle Railway's Derwent Branch at Linefoot. The C&WJR built this 7-mile-30-chain long (11.9 km) line to connect the C&WJR with Carlisle and beyond. The line was double track from Workington to Seaton, then single to Linefoot Junction. Most stations on C&WJR lines had heavy industrial neighbours, such as ironworks next to Cleator Moor West, or served primarily industrial workforces, such as Keekle Colliers' Platform. Seaton, however, was a fairly isolated country village.

Energy Coast is a University Technical College (UTC) on the outskirts of Workington, Cumbria that opened in September 2014 for students of ages 14–19. The "Energy Coast" is the coastal region between Silloth and Barrow-in-Furness, it includes the Sellafield nuclear power site and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority as well as wind farms at Walney Island and Robin Rigg.
