Little Smeaton, Selby

Kirk Smeaton railway station is located on the east side of Willowbridge Road in Little Smeaton, North Yorkshire, England. It opened on 22 July 1885, two days after the Hull Barnsley and West Riding Junction Railway and Dock Company opened the line between Hull Cannon Street and Cudworth. The station had two facing platforms, the brick-built main station building in "domestic revival style" was on the down side, while the up platform had a waiting room. At the east end of the down platform was a signal box which controlled the goods yard. The latter consisted of four sidings, but had no goods shed.A branch line between Wrangbrook Junction west of Kirk Smeaton and Denaby and Conisbrough opened in 1894, another between Wrangbrook Junction and Wath in 1904. Trains on these lines ran to and from Kirk Smeaton and beyond, also changing directions there, so that a locomotive turntable was installed in the station.Passenger services between Kirk Smeaton and Denaby and Conisbrough were withdrawn on 1 February 1903, although miners' trains may have continued to run after this date. Passenger services to Wath ended on 8 April 1929. The station closed to passengers on 1 January 1932, when passenger services between South Howden and Cudworth ceased, and remained open for goods traffic until 6 April 1959. After closure to regular passenger services, some excursion trains still ran from the station to Hull Fair and to Leeds football ground, so on 14 October 1933 during Hull Civic Week and on 28 February 1953 to Leeds. At the time of closure, the line and the station were operated by British Railways (North Eastern Region). The station building is now a private residence, part of the down platform is also preserved. The turntable pit has been partially filled in.This station was used in an episode of "A Touch of Frost - Held in Trust" from Series 10.

St Peter's Church is the parish church of Kirk Smeaton, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The church was originally built in the 12th century, from which period the tower and chancel arches survive, although the chancel arch may have been heightened in the 13th century. The building was altered in the 14th and 15th centuries, but was largely rebuilt in 1864. The church was grade II* listed in 1968. The church is built of magnesian limestone with a Welsh slate roof, and consists of a nave, a north aisle, a south porch, a chancel with a north chapel and vestry, and a west tower. The tower has two stages, a chamfered plinth, diagonal buttresses, two two-light west windows, a chamfered band, two-light bell openings with a hood mould, a west clock face, a moulded string course with gargoyles, and an embattled parapet with crocketed finials. There is a 15th-century plank door, a triple sedilia, and a Norman tub font.

Kirk Smeaton is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. It is located at the southern end of the county, close to South Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire. Historically, the village was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.In the 2001 Census, the population was 344, which had risen to 405 by the 2011 Census and reduced slightly to 390 by the 2021 Census.

Womersley is a village in North Yorkshire, England. The parish population at the 2011 census (including Stapleton and Walden Stubbs) was 515. It is near the towns of Selby, Askern and Pontefract. It is close to the borders with South and West Yorkshire. The village was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1 April 1974, when it became part of the Selby District of North Yorkshire. On 1 April 2023, Selby District was abolished and Womersley became part of the new North Yorkshire unitary authority area.

Womersley railway station was a railway station in North Yorkshire, England. It was situated on the Askern Branch Line and was built by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway to provide at link to the great Northern Railway at Doncaster. It was opened in 1848and closed to passenger traffic back in September 1948. The platforms have since been demolished, but the railway line through the site is still open and in regular use. The grand presence and noticeable architecture of the station likely resulted from the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railways’ belief that it was in keeping with the villages location. The large "Swiss cottage style" station building is prominent. The estate at the time of construction in the 1840s belonged to Lord Roche and there were many important visitors to the estate who came by train including the Queen Mother.

Campsmount Academy is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Norton, South Yorkshire, England. Originally known as Campsmount School, the school gained specialist status as a Technology College and was renamed Campsmount Technology College. The school was gutted by a major fire in December 2009, and temporary classrooms were erected on the site. A rebuild of the school was completed in April 2012, and a month later the school converted to academy status and was renamed Campsmount Academy. Campsmount Academy offers GCSEs and Cambridge Nationals as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form have the option to study a range of A-levels, BTECs and Cambridge Technicals.

The Stapleton Colony, based in Stapleton, North Yorkshire, is a Christian pacifist and anarchist community, and the only remaining colony of the Brotherhood Church. By 2016 the population of the colony had declined to four residents.In 1897 several members of the Brotherhood Church, some from a Quaker background, moved to Leeds. The receipt of a legacy left to a member, Lillian Ferris, enabled the group to relocate to a seven and a half acre smallholding at Stapleton in 1921.The Stapleton community are vegetarian, grow much of their own organic food and attempt to live independently from the government. They are affiliated to the Peace Pledge Union, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and War Resisters' International. Residents have included Len W. Gibson (1919–2007) who was a lifelong peace campaigner and conscientious objector.

Stapleton is a village in the Selby district of North Yorkshire, England. The population taken at the 2011 Census was less than 100. Details are included in the civil parish of Womersley. It is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) south-east from the towns of Pontefract and Knottingley. Stapleton Park was the subject of a well-known painting of the Victorian era by John Atkinson Grimshaw. Stapleton is home to the Stapleton Colony of the Brotherhood Church.

Norton is a village and civil parish in the City of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, on the borders with North and West Yorkshire. The civil parish also includes the villages of Campsall and Sutton, and has a population of 4,381, increasing to 4,625 at the 2011 Census. The northern boundary of the parish is marked by the River Went, while the Great North Road forms the western boundary.

Campsall is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Norton, in the Doncaster district, in the county of South Yorkshire, England. It lies 7 miles (11 km) to the north-west of Doncaster, at an elevation of around 50 feet above sea level. The village contains Campsall Country Park. The village falls within the Norton & Askern ward of Doncaster Council and the House of Commons constituency of Doncaster North. The Parish is situated on the “Magnesian Limestone Belt”, a landscape feature formed by a narrow north–south trending escarpment. The Magnesian Limestone Belt is typified by well drained and fertile soils, which were ideal for agriculture and the establishment of settlements like Campsall. Before the industrial revolution, the area to the east was occupied by the inaccessible and waterlogged marshes of the Humberhead Levels, whilst to the west was the Barnsdale Forest, an area associated with the legend of Robin Hood and various outlaws and bandits who preyed upon travellers on the Great North Road. In 1931 the parish had a population of 260.

St Mary Magdalene is a parish church in the Church of England in Campsall in South Yorkshire. It is Grade I listed. There is a service every Sunday at 11:00.

Barnsdale, or Barnsdale Forest, is an area of South and West Yorkshire, England. The area falls within the modern-day districts of Doncaster and Wakefield. Barnsdale was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. Barnsdale lies in the immediate vicinity north and north-west of Doncaster, and which was formerly forested and a place of royal hunts, and also renowned as a haunt of the outlaw Robin Hood in early ballads.
