Castle Hill, Mere

Mere is a market town and civil parish in Wiltshire, England. It lies at the extreme southwestern tip of Salisbury Plain, close to the borders of Somerset and Dorset. The parish includes the hamlets of Barrow Street, Burton, Charnage, Limpers Hill, Rook Street and Southbrook. The A303 trunk road passed through Mere until a bypass was built on the northern edge of the town in 1976.There is an old market square (although markets have not been held for several years), a chiming town clock and a large 15th-century parish church. The steep slope of Castle Hill rises from the northwestern side of Mere. Local industry and commerce includes the Hill Brush company, large wholesale plant nurseries and Yapp's wine merchants.

Dead Maid Quarry (grid reference ST803324) is a 4,400 square metre geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Mere, Wiltshire, England, notified in 1951. It lies in an area of industrial buildings off Castle Street on the south west outskirts of the town and provides a section of strata from the Cenomanian age, bearing many fossils.

White Sheet Hill, also known as Whitesheet Hill, is a hill in the English county of Wiltshire. As one of the most westerly areas of downland in Britain the area is noted for its chalky farmland which contains a rich variety of rare and protected fauna and flora. The hill is also the site of a neolithic causeway camp and barrows; and an Iron Age hill fort. The Roman road which runs along the hill was at one time the main route through the Selwood Forest. The hill is part of the Stourhead estate and has been in the ownership of the National Trust since 1946. The hill is the site of the 136.1 hectares (336 acres) Whitesheet Hill biological Site of Special Scientific Interest, notified in 1965. Both the National Trust and the Dutchy of Cornwall own land within Whitesheet Hill SSSI. White Sheet Hill is divided between the civil parishes of Kilmington, Mere and Stourton with Gasper. It is situated within the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and has extensive views over Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. It is home to White Sheet Radio Flying Club who use it as a slope soaring site for fun and competition flying.

Milton on Stour is a small village in North Dorset, England. It lies on the River Stour, a mile north of the town of Gillingham. The Church of St Simon and St Jude, built in 1868, is a Grade II listed building.

Charnage Down Chalk Pit (grid reference ST837329) is a 3.7 hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Wiltshire, England, notified in 1971.

The former town of Milton (or Middleton) in Dorset, England was cleared by the local landowner, Joseph Damer, Lord Milton, in the 1770s. This was a result of a fashion amongst English landowners to improve the amenity of their homes by converting surrounding farmland into open parkland. Where buildings were deemed to spoil the view, they were removed, including villages and towns, as in the case of Milton.Damer's former residence, Milton Abbey, is now occupied by Milton Abbey School.

Zeals is a village and civil parish in southwest Wiltshire, England. The village is about 2.2 miles (3.5 km) west of Mere, next to the A303 road towards Wincanton, and adjoins the villages of Bourton, Dorset and Penselwood, Somerset. Its name comes from the Old English sealh meaning a small willow or sallow. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Long Cross, White Cross, Lower Zeals and Wolverton. The River Stour forms the west boundary of the parish.

Barrow Street is a hamlet in Wiltshire, England, about 1.9 miles (3.1 km) southeast of the town of Mere. The name comes from the early Bronze Age bowl barrow at Barrow Farm. Barrow Farmhouse is from the 17th century.

Bowridge Hill is a hamlet 1 mile north east of Gillingham in Dorset, England, including the Grade II listed Lower Bowridge Hill Farmhouse, a 17th-century building once the home of the Greene family.

Wyndham's Oak (sometimes Judge Wyndham's Oak and also known as the Silton Oak or stumpy Silton) is an historic pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) tree in Silton, Dorset, England. It was one of a number of oaks that historically marked the boundary of between Selwood Forest and Gillingham Forest, a medieval hunting ground.The tree is up to 1,000 years old, and is the oldest tree in the county of Dorset. As of April 2008, its trunk measured 38 feet (12 m) in circumference—the greatest of any tree in the country—and the bole was 26 feet (7.9 m) high. It is named after Sir Hugh Wyndham, a Judge of the Common Pleas who used to sit in its shade to relax while contemplating cases, and was reputedly used as a gallows from which to hang rebels convicted of participation in the Monmouth rebellion.It was the subject of an engraving during the reign of George III, and a drawing by the artist Mark Frith, which was commissioned by publisher Felix Dennis and bequeathed by him to the charity he founded, the Heart of England Forest.It was one of ten candidates in the Woodland Trust's poll to find the "England’s Tree of the Year 2018".As of September 2019, the ground where the tree stands is part of a privately owned farm.

Royal Air Force Zeals, or more simply RAF Zeals, is a former Royal Air Force station in Wiltshire, sited to the north of the village of Zeals, next to the village of Stourton and the Stourhead estate.

Stourton with Gasper is a civil parish in the southwest of the English county of Wiltshire. Its main settlement is the village of Stourton, along with the hamlets of Bonham and Gasper. The village is about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) northwest of the small town of Mere, and is part of the Stourhead estate, which includes much of the west of the parish. The estate is in the ownership of the National Trust, and the entrance to the estate's famous house and garden is through the village.
