Hen-allt Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Brecknock, Powys, Wales. Its special features include unimproved grassland, Flat-sedge Blysmus compressus and Meadow saffron Colchicum autumnale.

The Hay Festival of Literature & Arts, better known as the Hay Festival (Welsh: Gŵyl Y Gelli), is an annual literature festival held in Hay-on-Wye, Powys, Wales, for 10 days from May to June. Devised by Norman, Rhoda and Peter Florence in 1988, the festival was described by Bill Clinton in 2001 as "The Woodstock of the mind". Tony Benn said: "In my mind it's replaced Christmas".It has become a prominent festival in British culture, and sessions at the festival have been recorded for television and radio programmes such as The Readers' and Writers' Roadshow and The One Show. All the BBC's national radio channels apart from Radio One have been involved in broadcasting from the festival, and Sky Arts showed highlights of the festival from 2010 until 2013, handing over the main coverage to the BBC for the 2014 event.

Hay-on-Wye (Welsh: Y Gelli Gandryll; Welsh pronunciation: [ə ˈɡɛɬi ˈgandrɪɬ]), known locally as Hay (Welsh: Y Gelli), is a market town and community in Powys, Wales, in the historic county of Brecknockshire. With over twenty bookshops, it is often described as a "town of books"; it is both the National Book Town of Wales and the site of the annual Hay Festival. The population of the town in 1841 was 1,455; this had grown to 1,680 by 1901. The town has grown little since, with 2018 estimates at 1,900. The built-up area includes Cusop across the border in Herefordshire, England and has a population of around 2,000.The town is twinned with Redu, a village in the Belgian municipality of Libin, and with Timbuktu, Mali, West Africa.Hay-on-Wye was named one of the best places to live in Wales in 2017.

Hay St Marys F.C. are a football club based in Hay-on-Wye. They currently play in the Ardal SE, the third tier of the Welsh football pyramid. The home colours are green and white striped shirts with green shorts and white socks.The club plays its home games at 'Forest Road'. The ground boasts two newly built high quality pitches, one with full floodlights and the other with training lights. Both pitches each have permanent dugouts, stands to accommodate the fans and have railings on all four sides. In the 2011–12 season, Hay were runners-up in the Mid Wales South Football League, and were promoted to the Mid Wales League. The 2014–15 season saw the Saints gain promotion again through the runners-up spot, from Division 2 to Division 1 of the Mid Wales League. Along the way they also lifted the Otway Cup in what was a successful season for the club. The 2015–16 season saw the first team finish 4th in Division 1, their highest ever league position under the guidance of former player Gareth Jenkins. 2015–2016 also saw 'The Saint win 'The Radnorshire Cup' and retain 'The Otway Cup'. At the end of the 2016–17 season, the side took a decision to drop to Division Two, citing players not wishing to travel long distances to away matches.They started the 2019–20 season in the Mid Wales Football League Division One, but withdrew from the league after seven games.For the 2021-22 season, the club returned to the Mid Wales Football League in the new East Division.

The Cheese Market in Hay-on-Wye (Welsh: Marchnad gaws Y Gelli Gandryll), formerly Hay-on-Wye Town Hall, (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Y Gelli Gandryll), is a municipal building in Market Street, Hay-on-Wye, Powys, Wales. The structure, which has been restored with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund so that the first floor can be let out for residential use, is a Grade II listed building.

Dulas Bridge spans Dulas Brook, a tributary of the River Wye in Hay-on-Wye, Powys, Wales.The Dulas bridge, near Hay station, was a joint counties bridge—Brecknock and Radnor. Those counties refused to widen the bridge to correspond with the improvements of the local board, and the chairman of the local board (F. R. Trumper) undertook and succeeded in raising the money for doing the work by public subscription. The rebuild was completed in 1884.In 1839, the Dulas Bridge was described as having one arch.

Hay was a railway station serving the town of Hay-on-Wye in Powys, Wales, although the station was located just across the English border in Herefordshire. Hay had one of the earliest railway stations in the country, being part of a horse-drawn tramway.

Hay Bridge spans the River Wye at Hay-on-Wye, Powys, Wales. Preceding the rebuild, the bridge was partly of stone and partly of wood, which itself replaced a stone bridge of seven arches, destroyed by a flood in 1795, and some remains of which form part of the later structure. The toll was taken on this bridge under the authority of an act of parliament in 1756 (29 Geo. 2 c. 73), which granted that privilege for a term of 98 years, from the first day of August 1763, at the expiration of which the bridge was to be toll-free.

St Mary's (also St Mary the Virgin) is an Anglican parish church in Hay-on-Wye, Brecknockshire, Powys, Wales. Separated by a deep dingle, which probably was formerly a moat, it is situated westward of the town upon an almost precipitous eminence, near to the River Wye.An earlier church, dedicated to St. John, called Eglwys Ifan, appears from the Notitia Cambro-Britannica, to have been in good repair in 1684, and then used as a school-house. This building partly fell down about the year 1700, and was never repaired, though part of it was later used as a school. The church of St Mary was resorted to thereafter. It was rebuilt and enlarged in 1884, in a great measure through the instrumentality of the Rev. Humphrey Allen, who was for a number of years curate of Hay. The small building consists of a nave and chancel, with a tower at the west end, containing one bell only.

Clifford Castle is a ruined castle in the village of Clifford which lies 2.5 miles to the north-east of Hay-on-Wye in the Wye Valley in Herefordshire, England (grid reference SO243457). It was the caput of the feudal barony of Clifford, a Marcher Lordship (owing allegiance directly to the king, but separate from the rest of the kingdom). The castle stands in the grounds of a private house and is only open to the public on certain days of the year.

Clifford is a village and civil parish in Herefordshire, England, and 2.5 miles (4.0 km) to the north of Hay-on-Wye. It lies on the south bank of the River Wye, which here forms the border between Wales and England. The village sits on the B4350 road. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Priory Wood and Hardwicke.
