South Valley Regional Airport

Jordan Landing is a master-planned development located in the center of West Jordan, Utah, adjacent to South Valley Regional Airport, also known as Airport 2. Its 500-acre (200-hectare) size, containing 1,400,000 square feet (130,000 m2) of retail space, 1,200 residential units, and 1,500,000 square feet (140,000 m2) of office space, places it as a focal point of West Jordan's booming economy. It is one of the largest mixed-use developments in the Intermountain West. Built on former corn fields (these fields were silage corn) and next to Bangerter Highway, with the first phase having its groundbreaking in 1999, Jordan Landing has been criticized for drawing traffic from across the Salt Lake Valley to a formerly rural area, overwhelming infrastructure, and acting as a catalyst for urban sprawl. However, many developers have cited Jordan Landing's success and positive impact on population growth, with some calling it a catalyst, in their decision to begin construction on their own nearby large mixed-use developments. Among them are Utah's Boyer Company, America's largest homebuilder D. R. Horton, and European mining multinational Rio Tinto Group. The shopping center had two "superstores": a Walmart Supercenter and the first ever Sears Grand, which was remodeled, downsized, and converted to a regular Sears in 2017. In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears Grand at Jordan Landing, into Seritage Growth Properties. Burlington opened in the part of the former Sears Grand space in 2017. On August 22, 2018, it was announced that Sears would be closing as part of a plan to close 46 stores nationwide. The store closed in November 2018. In early 2019, the former Sears space became At Home. The Walmart Supercenter was the first such store in the Salt Lake City area and is consistently rated among the busiest in the United States, attracting 80,000 shoppers a week. Jordan Landing also contains 12 dine-in restaurants, and 13 fast-food establishments, mostly of the national chain variety. Jordan Landing is also the location of Utah's largest cinema by number of screens, a 24-screen Cinemark theater (the largest theater by seats is Larry H. Miller's 20 screen megaplex in the nearby "The District" in South Jordan, in which seats are more tightly packed). Mountain America Credit Union and Cyprus Credit Union have their corporate headquarters in Jordan Landing. The community also contains many apartments, condominiums, and townhouses. Additionally, there are two hotels built — a Hampton Inn and a Residence Inn by Marriott opened there in 2018.

West Jordan is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. It is a suburb of Salt Lake City and has a mixed economy. According to the 2020 Census, the city had a population of 116,961, placing it as the third most populous in the state. The city occupies the southwest end of the Salt Lake Valley at an elevation of 4,330 feet (1,320 m). Named after the nearby Jordan River, the limits of the city begin on the river's western bank and end in the eastern foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains, where Kennecott Copper Mine, the world's largest man-made excavation, is located. Settled in the mid-19th century, the city has developed into its own regional center. As of 2012, the city has four major retail centers; with Jordan Landing being one of the largest mixed-use planned developments in the Intermountain West. Companies headquartered in West Jordan include Mountain America Credit Union, Lynco Sales & Service, SME Steel, and Cyprus Credit Union. The city has one major hospital, Jordan Valley Medical Center, and a campus of Salt Lake Community College. City landmarks include Gardner Village, established in 1850, and South Valley Regional Airport, formerly known as "Salt Lake Airport #2". The airport serves general aviation operations as well as a base for the 211th Aviation Regiment of the Utah Army National Guard flying Apache and Black Hawk helicopters.

Oquirrh is a census-designated place (CDP) in Salt Lake County, Utah, located on the slopes of the Oquirrh Mountains that gave it its name. Oquirrh was once part of Kearns, UT. Through annexation, the city of West Jordan cut Oquirrh off from Kearns, making Oquirrh a CDP. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 10,390, a modest increase over the 1990 figure of 7,593. In 2000 parts Oquirrh were annexed by West Jordan.

Jordan Valley is a light rail station in West Jordan, Utah, served by the Red Line of the Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) TRAX light rail system. The Red Line provides service from the University of Utah to the Daybreak Community of South Jordan.

The Utah Olympic Oval is an indoor speed skating oval located 14 miles (23 km) southwest of Salt Lake City, in Kearns, Utah. The Oval was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics and it hosted the long track speed skating events for the 2002 games. Inside the facility the 400 meter skating track surrounds two international sized ice sheets, and is itself surrounded by a 442 meter running track. Due to its high altitude, 4,675 feet (1,425 m), and the associated low air resistance, ten Olympic records and nine world records were set at the Oval during the 2002 games, the largest number of world records ever set at one event.

Kearns High School is a public high school located at 5525 S. Cougar Lane (4800 W.) Kearns, Utah, United States. It was opened in 1966 with its first graduating class graduating in 1967. It serves 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students. The official mascot is a Cougar and the school colors are green and gold. Starting with the 2014–2015 school year, the school now serves 9th grade. At the 2021 graduation ceremony, Kearns High School officials withheld a student's diploma and subsequently charged her $5,000 because a guest popped confetti in celebration when the student's name was called.

Kearns ( kurnz) is a metro township in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. Named after Utah's U.S. Senator Thomas Kearns, it had a population of 36,723 at the 2020 Census. This was a 2.8 percent increase over the 2010 figure of 35,731. Kearns is home to the Utah Olympic Oval, an indoor speed skating oval built for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

West Jordan High School is a public high school founded in 1981. Located southwest of Salt Lake City in West Jordan, Utah, United States, it enrolls around 1,700 students. The men's varsity basketball team won the 2001 state championship, as well as the 2009 State championship against Lone Peak High School, the two-time defending champion.West Jordan is well known for its music program. It has one of the largest choir programs of any public school in the state. with a record enrollment of over 300 students. The band and orchestra programs also consistently score well in competitions.

On Thursday, January 15, 1987, SkyWest Airlines Flight 1834, a Swearingen SA-226TC (METRO II), and a Mooney M20 were involved in a midair collision at 12:52 MST (UTC−7) near Kearns, Utah, a suburb southwest of Salt Lake City. All ten aboard the two aircraft were killed: two pilots and six passengers aboard the METRO II and two aboard the Mooney.National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators primarily blamed the small plane pilots for wandering into restricted airspace, but a judge later assigned 51% responsibility to FAA air traffic controllers.

Copper Hills High School is located in West Jordan, Utah, United States, situated just east of the Oquirrh Mountains in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley near the Bingham Canyon Copper Mine. It is part of the Jordan School District. The school opened in fall 1995 and has an enrollment of 2,761.

4800 W Old Bingham Hwy is a light rail station in the Welby neighborhood of West Jordan, Utah, in the United States, served by the Red Line of the Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) TRAX light rail system. Itineris Early College High School is an independent public charter school that first opened in 2004. It was located in West Jordan, Utah, USA, on the campus of Salt Lake Community College. In 2014, The school was relocated to a new building nearby the Salt Lake Community College campus. The school enables attendees to earn their associate’s degree concurrent with their high school diploma. Itineris has a wide variety of courses ranging from the sciences and mathematics to English and history. In junction with Salt Lake Community College, Itineris also has classes taught outside the campus that will help students achieve enough credits to receive their associate degree in biotechnology or general studies. Students can achieve up to two years of college credit at the same time as they are earning a high school diploma. Itineris Early College High School shares similar characteristics of other early college high schools that have been shown to improve learning and academic success for students. Currently, there are more than twenty early college high schools in the US. The Jobs for the Future Early College High School Initiative, sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in partnership with the Carnegie Corporation of New York, The Ford Foundation, and The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, has awarded more than $50 million in grant money to support approximately 100 new schools over the next five years.
