Eastrington

North Eastrington railway station was a station on the Hull and Barnsley Railway that served the village of Eastrington in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It opened on 27 July 1885 as Eastrington and was renamed North Eastrington on 1 July 1922. It closed on 1 August 1955.

It forms part of the civil parish of Eastrington. Portington lies within the Parliamentary constituency of Haltemprice and Howden an area that mainly consists of middle class suburbs, towns and villages. The area is affluent and has one of the highest proportions of owner-occupiers in the country.Portington Hall is a Grade II listed building.

Owsthorpe is a small hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) north-east of Goole and lies 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the M62 motorway. It forms part of the civil parish of Eastrington.

Balkholme is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Kilpin and the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 78.Balkholme is to the south of the B1230 Howden to Gilberdyke road as it crosses the M62 motorway, and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north-east of the parish village of Kilpin. The county town of Beverley is 17 miles (27 km) to the north-east, the town of Howden 2.5 miles (4 km) west, and the town centre of Goole approximately 4 miles (6 km) south-west. In 1823, Baines recorded that Balkholme was in the parish of Howden, and the wapentake and liberty of Howdenshire, and had a population of 105 including eight farmers. Balkholme was formerly a township in the parish of Howden, from 1866 Balkholme was a civil parish in its own right, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Kilpin and Eastrington, part also went to form Gilberdyke.At the east side of Balkholme is West Linton Farmhouse, a Grade II listed late 18th-century house, of two-storeys and three-bays. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond, with pantile roof, and has a 19th-century wing.There is a small RAF memorial garden on Brow Lane where a mid-air collision occurred during the Second World War between two Halifax Bombers of 578 Squadron.

Howdenshire was a wapentake and a liberty of England, lying around the town of Howden in the East Riding of Yorkshire.In the Anglo-Saxon period, the district was under the control of Peterborough's monastery, but it was confiscated by Edward the Confessor, and then given to the Bishop of Durham by William I of England. It came to operate as an exclave of County Durham, much like Allertonshire, but under the dean of Durham rather than the bishop. This peculiarity was abolished in 1846, but the district is still in use for certain administrative purposes.

Hive is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) west of Brough and 7 miles (11 km) north-east of Goole. It lies just to the north of the M62 motorway. Hive forms part of the civil parish of Gilberdyke. In 1823 Hive was in the civil parish of Eastrington, and the Wapentake and Liberty of Howdenshire. Occupations at the time included six farmers.

Bursea is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) south of the village of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and 5 miles (8 km) north-east of the market town of Howden. It lies to the north of the River Foulness. Bursea forms part of the civil parish of Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. The chapel at Bursea is designated a Grade II listed building in August 1987 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.

Royal Air Force Bellasize, also known as RAF Bellasize, was a former RAF airfield in the hamlet of Bellasize, near Gilberdyke, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Originally opened in 1916, Bellasize was one of only four Yorkshire-based RAF locations to see use in the First and Second World Wars. Flying at Bellasize was sporadic and training based, with the site not being used in an offensive capacity during the Second World War.

It lies just to the south of the B1230 road and north of the M62 motorway. Belby forms part of the civil parish of Kilpin.

Laxton is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The village is situated approximately 2 miles (3 km) east from Howden and 19 miles (31 km) south-east from the county town of York. The civil parish is formed by the village of Laxton and the hamlets of Cotness, Metham and Saltmarshe. A very small part of Yokefleet also falls within the parish. According to the 2011 UK census, Laxton parish had a population of 314, a reduction on the 2001 UK census figure of 322.Laxton lies within the Parliamentary constituency of Haltemprice and Howden an area that mainly consists of middle class suburbs, towns and villages. The area is affluent, placed as the 10th most affluent in the country in a Barclays Private Clients survey, and has one of the highest proportions of owner-occupiers in the country.The village is served by Saltmarshe railway station on the Sheffield to Hull Line. In 1823 Laxton was in the civil parish of Howden, and in the Wapentake and Liberty of Howdenshire. Population at the time was 268. Occupations included seven farmers, two carpenters, a corn miller, a tailor, a shopkeeper, a shoemaker, a schoolmaster and public house landlords of the White Horse; the Mason's Arms, who was also a bricklayer; and the Cross Keys, who was also a blacksmith. Resident was the ecclesiastical parish curate and a Philip Saltmarshe, Esquire of Saltmarshe.
