Knobs State Forest

The Knobs Region or The Knobs is located in the US state of Kentucky. It is a narrow, arc-shaped region consisting of hundreds of isolated hills. The region wraps around the southern and eastern parts of the Bluegrass region in the north central to northeastern part of the state. The western end of the Knobs region begins near Louisville, Kentucky and continues southeastward through Bullitt, Hardin, Nelson, LaRue, Marion County, Taylor, Boyle, Casey, Lincoln, and Garrard counties before turning northeast and running along the Pottsville Escarpment and the Appalachian Plateau. The Knob arc has a length of 230 miles (370 km). Many of the hills are conical and up to several hundred feet high, some with capstones that form cliffs. The monadnocks formed from the eroding margins of the Pennyroyal Plateau to the south and the Cumberland Plateau to the east. The caprock is Mississippian Harrodsburg Limestone and the slopes are Borden Formation shales of Devonian to Mississippian age.

The district included 135 contributing buildings, a contributing structure, and four contributing sites. It is roughly bounded by Maple St., KY 61, Knoxville Ave. and Harrel and Masden Streets.

During 1929–1933, Mount Moriah was pastored by James L. Sullivan, who went on to be the president of the Baptist Sunday School Board (now Lifeway) and then president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Mount Moriah Baptist Church is a member of the Nelson County Baptist Association, Kentucky Baptist Convention, and Southern Baptist Convention. The earliest records of the church are lost, but it is believed that Mount Moriah Baptist was first constituted as Drennon's Lick Creek Baptist Church.

Floyds Fork is a 62-mile-long (100 km) tributary of the Salt River in Kentucky, directly south and east of Louisville. It begins in Henry County, near Smithfield Kentucky, flows through eastern Jefferson County and flows into the Salt River near Shepherdsville in Bullitt County. It runs for about 30 miles (48 km) through Jefferson County and drains approximately 122 square miles (320 km2), making it the largest watershed in the county. It is also the least environmentally compromised watershed in the county, according to the Metropolitan Sewer District, as large-scale development in the southeastern portions of Jefferson County is still relatively sparse. To preserve its rural character, much of Floyds Fork south of I-64 was zoned rural residential in 1993.At Mount Washington, Floyds Fork has a discharge of approximately 387 cubic feet per second.The proposed City of Parks initiative by Louisville would purchase 2,000 acres (8.1 km2) of land along the river and establish three to four parks, as well as hiking and other recreational trails.Floyds Fork is named for John Floyd, an early surveyor of the area. During the Civil War, Confederate and Union forces skirmished on Floyds Fork and what is now US 60 (Shelbyville Road, locally) on October 1, 1862.
