Itäkeskus (Swedish: Östra centrum, literal translation East center) is a quarter in the neighbourhood of Vartiokylä (as of the 1980s) in Helsinki, Finland. The district's main attraction is the largest covered-in shopping mall in the Nordic countries, Itis, which make Itäkeskus as the most significant commercial center of East Helsinki. The district has a station on the Helsinki Metro (Itäkeskus metro station), whose eastern entrance at the Tallinnanaukio square leads to the shopping centre. Itäkeskus has the eastern terminus of bus lines 500 and 550; the western terminus of line 500 is Munkkivuori and line 550 is Espoo's Westend bus station. Construction of the Jokeri light rail, which replaces bus line 550, began in 2019 and traffic is scheduled to begin in 2024. The most important road connection to the Helsinki central from Itäkeskus runs along Itäväylä. At the end of 2018, 38.1 per cent of Itäkeskus' residents had a foreign background. About 12 percent of the residents had an African background, which was the largest share of all areas in Helsinki. At the end of 2020, the share of foreign language speakers is 41.2 per cent in Itäkeskus.

Itis (formerly Itäkeskus) is the second largest shopping centre in Finland, located in Itäkeskus in East Helsinki. It is located next to the Itäväylä motorway and the Itäkeskus metro station. The mall has been refurbished a number of times, most recently in 2014, increasing the gross leasable area – including offices – to a total of 103,675 m2 (1,115,950 sq ft). It has a leasable retail area of 81,218 m2 (874,220 sq ft), containing more than 150 shops; including restaurants, cafés and grocery stores, which makes it the fourth-largest shopping centre in Finland. The mall has 3,000 parking spaces and approximately 18 million visitors annually. Its anchor tenants are Stockmann, S-market, Lidl, Halonen, Tokmanni and H&M.The shopping centre is divided into four sections: Pasaasi (1984), Pikku-Bulevardi, Bulevardi (1992), and Piazza (2001). It has five floors, with the shops and other commercial services mainly concentrated on the first and second floors. The other floors are reserved mainly for parking and office space.The shopping centre was built in three stages. The part now known as Pasaasi was completed in 1984 under the name Itämarket ('eastern market'), complete with the metro station and 41 shops. The new shopping centre proved successful, and an extension with 160 more shops (now Bulevardi and Pikku-Bulevardi) was built by September 1992. Another extension, known as Piazza, was opened in 2001. The following year, the property was sold by its owner Sponda Oyj to the Dutch company Wereldhave NV. Wereldhave sold Itis to the Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing and CC Real on 2019. Finnkino opened Finland's first commercial IMAX movie theatre in Itis on 30 November 2018.

Easton Helsinki is a shopping centre in Itäkeskus, Helsinki, Finland. It is connected to the Itis shopping centre through the Hansasilta bridge. Easton Helsinki is built in phases, and its first part was opened on 26 October 2017. There is an option to expand the shopping centre by building a second part, but no decision of building it has been made yet.

Tallinnanaukio (literally "Tallinn Square"; Swedish: Revalsplanen, literally "Reval Square") is a square in the Itäkeskus quarter in Helsinki, Finland. There is direct access from the Tallinnanaukio to the Itis shopping center, and there is also one of the eastern entrances to the Itäkeskus metro station, from where the Helsinki Metro leaves the metro to the city's downtown center. The Finnish name of the square refers to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, while the Swedish name refers to Reval (Rääveli in Finnish), an older name previously used from Tallinn.

Maamerkki (Finnish for "landmark") is a high-rise building on Kauppakartanonkatu street near the Lyypekinaukio square in Itäkeskus in the Vartiokylä district of Helsinki, Finland. The building is 82 metres high and has 19 floors. There is a viewing terrace at the top. The building was completed in 1987 and was designed by architect Erkki Kairamo. The building currently has over 50 apartments and premises of several businesses. Maamerkki is currently the sixth highest high-rise building in Finland and the third highest in Helsinki (after Majakka in Kalasatama and Cirrus in Vuosaari). In spring 2014 the building was renamed Helmitorni ("pearl tower").

Itäkeskus metro station (Finnish: Itäkeskuksen metroasema, Swedish: Östra centrumens metrostation - "Eastern Center") is a ground-level station on the Helsinki Metro. The station was built on the grounds of the shopping center Itis, and serves the quarter of Itäkeskus in the neighborhood of Vartiokylä in East Helsinki. There are 240 bicycle and 420 car parking spaces at the station. Itäkeskus is served by both M1 and M2 and acts as an exchange station between the two, as it is the easternmost station to be shared by both lines. Itäkeskus is one of the original stations on the system, and was opened on 1 June 1982. It was designed by Jaakko Ylinen and Jarmo Maunula. Itäkeskus is located 2.1 kilometers east of Siilitie metro station, 1.9 kilometers south of Myllypuro metro station, and 1.0 kilometers south-west of Puotila metro station. Itäkeskus station is unique in the sense that it is the only station on the Helsinki metro that has 3 platforms. It is also one of the two stations on the network at which trains' doors open on the "wrong" side - on the right instead of the left. This only occurs on track 1 when facing Vuosaari and Mellunmäki, and one track 2 (which is rarely used) facing Helsinki and Matinkylä. The only other station with this arrangement is Kalasatama.

Radio Sputnik was a Finnish radio station with programming in the Russian language. The station ceased broadcasting in 2018.

Puotila metro station (Finnish: Puotilan metroasema, Swedish: Botby gårds metrostation) is a ground-level cut-and-cover metro station on the M1 line of the Helsinki Metro. There are 200 bicycle and 331 car parking spaces at Puotila. It serves the neighborhoods of Puotila and Puotinharju in East Helsinki. The station was opened on 31 August 1998, making it one of the newest stations in the Helsinki Metro. It was designed by the architect bureau Kaupunkisuunnittelu Oy Jarmo Maunula. It is located 1 kilometer from the Itäkeskus, and 2 kilometers from Rastila.

Liikuntamylly is an all-activity hall over a hectare in size in the district of Myllypuro in East Helsinki, Finland. The building is located right next to the Myllypuro metro station. Most of the building consists of one large hall. The building also hosts business spaces on the bottom floor by the backyard side. The building was originally built in 1979 as the printing house of the Paragon press (known as the Parate printing house), which worked at the premises until the 1990s. The building was designed from 1975 to 1979 by professor of architecture Aarno Ruusuvuori, who was known for using concrete as an architectural element. Special care was given to the comfort of the working premises. The building has later been protected in the zoning plan. After the building had been vacated during the early 1990s depression in Finland, the city of Helsinki bought the building and renovated it into an exercise hall from 1999 to 2000.The volume of the building is 134,240 cubic metres and a has a total exercise area of 12,060 square metres.The building is currently maintained by the physical exercise department of the city of Helsinki. The building has premises for athletics, artistic gymnastics, indoor climbing, various ball games and a health club. Liikuntamylly hosted the Finnish championships in indoor athletic sports in 2004 and 2011. The Herttoniemi congregation has traditionally held a free food giveaway for the poor at the backyard of the building, which regularly causes one of the longest and most prominent food queues in Finland.

Myllypuro metro station (Finnish: Myllypuron metroasema, Swedish: Kvarnbäckens metrostation - "Mill Creek") is a ground-level station on lines M2 (Tapiola - Mellunmäki) and M2M (Matinkylä - Mellunmäki) of the Helsinki Metro. There are 97 bicycle and 40 car parking spaces at Myllypuro. The station serves the quarter of Myllypuro in East Helsinki. The station was opened on 21 October 1986 and was designed by the architect firm Toivo Karhunen Oy. It is located 1.9 kilometers north of Itäkeskus and 1.4 kilometers south of Kontula. One of Metropolia's campuses is located in Myllypuro, which is why the idea of changing the station's name from Myllypuro to Metropolia has also been brought up.

The Vartiokylä dumping ground was a dumping ground in the Vartiokylä area of Helsinki between 1954 and 1962. It was located in the present-day neighbourhood of Myllypuro; the site is also known as the "Alakiventie Street area". This dumping ground caused the best-known environmental disaster in the history of Helsinki. Part of the neighbourhood of Myllypuro was built on this site with no thought given to possible environmental hazards. In 1999, the city of Helsinki admitted that there was a problem with this neighbourhood and, as a result, apartment buildings on part of Alakiventie Street were torn down, and the land below was rehabilitated so as not to cause further problems.

Marjaniemi (Swedish: Marudd) is a seaside residential area in eastern Helsinki, Finland, with a population of approximately 2,000. Administratively it forms a quarter in the neighbourhood of Vartiokylä. Marjaniemi is a sought-after neighborhood, and the real estate prices rank among the highest in the city.
