Nowton Park is a park in Nowton, Suffolk, England. It is approximately 2 miles south of the centre of Bury St Edmunds.

The Victory Ground is a cricket ground in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. The ground was established in 1935, when Suffolk played the Surrey Second XI in the ground's first Minor Counties Championship match. From 1935 to the present day, it has hosted 50 Minor Counties matches.The first List-A match played on the ground came in the 1981 NatWest Trophy between Suffolk and Derbyshire. From 1981 to 2005, the ground hosted ten List-A matches, the last of which saw Suffolk play Glamorgan in the 2005 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy.In local domestic cricket, the Victory Ground is the home of Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club who play in the East Anglian Premier Cricket League.

Great Whelnetham (sometimes Great Welnetham) is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located around two miles south of Bury St Edmunds, in 2005 its population was 820.The parish also contains the hamlet of Cocks Green, and the village of Sicklesmere, with which Great Whelnetham is contiguous. Until the Beeching Axe, the area was served by Welnetham railway station on the Long Melford-Bury St Edmunds branch line. In 2019, an excavation of an 4th-century Roman cemetery in Great Whelnetham uncovered unusual burial practices. Of 52 skeletons found, up to 40% had been decapitated, which archaeologists claimed gave new insight into Roman traditions. The burial ground includes the remains of men, women and children who likely lived in a nearby settlement. The decapitated skeletons represent "quite a rare find".

Hawstead is a small village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. It is located 5 kilometres (3 mi) south of Bury St. Edmunds between the B1066 and A134 roads, in a fork formed by the River Lark and a small tributary. The place-name 'Hawstead' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Haldsteada. The name is thought to mean 'a place of shelter for cattle'.Hawstead Place, previously the seat of the Drury family, is now a farmhouse. Sir William Drury was sheriff and knight of the shire for Suffolk. Lady Drury's Closet (also known as the Hawstead Panels), now in Christchurch Mansion in Ipswich, is a series of painted wooden panels of early 17th-century date. They originally decorated a painted closet adjacent to a bedroom in Hawstead Place. It is believed they were made for Anne Drury, Lady Drury, wife of Sir Robert Drury, who died in 1624. Lt Col Edward Robert Drury, son of Rev Sir William Drury, was the first General Manager and President of the Queensland Bank of Australia now the National Australia Bank; he named his Queensland home 'Hawstead' in 1875.

Thedwastre (also Thedwestry) was a hundred of the county of Suffolk, England covering an area of 40,362 acres (163.34 km2). It formed part of the Liberty of Saint Edmund, under the jurisdiction of the abbots of Bury St Edmunds. The hundred is about twelve miles (19 km) in length and six miles (10 km) wide. It is bounded on the west by the borough of Bury St Edmunds and Thingoe Hundred, on the north and east by Blackbourn and Stow Hundreds, and on the south by Cosford and Babergh Hundreds. It is a fertile district with undulating terrain and watered by streams which rise within its limits and feeding the rivers Thet, Gipping, Lark and Brett.It is in the Deanery of Thedwestry, the Archdeaconry of Sudbury, the Diocese of Ely and Liberty of St Edmund. It contains no town of any size, but Bury and Ixworth are on its borders. Listed as Theivardestreu in the Domesday Book, the name derives from "Theodward's tree", presumably a notable tree where the Hundred Court used to meet in Thurston.

Hardwick House was a manor house near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, owned by Sir Robert Drury, Speaker of the House of Commons, of Hawstead Place. It was subsequently purchased in the seventeenth century by Royalist Thomas Cullum, a former Sheriff of London. Experts in Suffolk county history as well as noted authorities in antiquarian and botanical matters, the Cullum family of eight successive baronets authored works on the county and its fauna and flora. Sir Thomas Gery Cullum, a Charterhouse graduate, medical doctor and member of the Royal Academy and the Linnean Society, was a well-regarded author on science and botany.

Rushbrooke is a village and former civil parish on the River Lark, 20 miles (32 km) north west of Ipswich, now in the parish of Rushbrooke with Rougham, in the West Suffolk district, in the county of Suffolk, England. Until April 2019 Rushbrooke was in the St Edmundsbury district. In 1961 the parish had a population of 58.

Located around two miles south of Bury St Edmunds, in 2005 its population was 180.The parish also contains part of the village of Sicklesmere, with which sister village Great Whelnetham is contiguous. Until the Beeching Axe, the area was served by Welnetham railway station on the Long Melford-Bury St Edmunds branch line.
