Spremberg

Spremberg station is a railway station in the municipality of Spremberg, located in the Spree-Neiße district in Brandenburg, Germany.

Black Pump power station (German: Kraftwerk Schwarze Pumpe, literally 'power station Black Pump') is a modern lignite–fired (brown coal) power station in the Black Pump (Schwarze Pumpe) district in Spremberg, Germany, consisting of 2 × 800 megawatts (MW) units. Built by Siemens, the current plant came into service in 1997–1998. On 30 September 2016, Vattenfall sold the power station to the Czech energy group EPH and its financial partner PPF Investments. The cooling towers are 161 metres (528 ft) high and have an observation deck on top. The site has been a large-scale industrial site processing lignite since it was first developed in 1955 during the DDR era. The DDR-era plant produced high-temperature lignite coke from lignite for blast furnaces, coal gas to fire steam turbine electrical generation, motor fuels, and a variety of chemical feedstocks.

Windpark Spremberg is a nine-turbine, 22.5-megawatt wind farm located about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of the city centre, and on a hill within the city forest, of Spremberg in Brandenburg, Germany. Owner is the investment company Ampere Equity Fund. It acquired the complete system in April 2009 of the WSB Neue Energien GmbH Saxonia, which had come out with the advertisements for the establishment wind park of the Spremberg among 21 applicants as a winner. The park comprises nine Fuhrländer FL-2500 wind turbines with a hub height of 141 metres (463 ft) and a rotor diameter of 100 metres (330 ft), each generating 2.5 MW, thus totalling 22.5 MW, sufficient for supplying about 60,000 residents with electricity. Per year on a generation of current by approximately 55 GWh one counts. After completion the wind park Spremberg is the highest latticed mast wind park of the world. At present highest individual latticed mast windwheel of the world is the Fuhrländer Wind Turbine Laasow. The wind park Spremberg forms a descriptive contrast to the brown coal power station black one pump in range of vision. After present planning the wind park is to be extended starting from 2012 by further eight plants.

Spreetal (German) or Sprjewiny Doł (Upper Sorbian, pronounced [ˈspʁʲɛwʲinɨ ˈdɔw]) is a municipality in the district of Bautzen, in Saxony, Germany. The municipality is part of the recognized Sorbian settlement area in Saxony. Upper Sorbian has an official status next to German, all villages bear names in both languages.

The Kleine Spree is a river of Saxony, Germany. It is a left branch of the Spree, from which it splits near Großdubrau and which it joins near Spreewitz.

Hühnerwasser is a river of Brandenburg, Germany. It flows into the Spremberg Reservoir, which is drained by the Spree.

Spremberg Dam (German: Talsperre Spremberg) and its associated reservoir (Spremberger Stausee) lie between Cottbus and Spremberg and impound the River Spree. Together with the surrounding countryside they make up the protected landscape also known as the Talsperre Spremberg. The dam itself is made of earth and is the only one in the state of Brandenburg that counts as a "large dam". Its purposes are industrial water supply, flood protection, electricity generation, drought protection and recreation. It was taken into service on 8 October 1965.

Struga is a river of Saxony, Germany in northern Upper Lusatia. It is a right tributary of the Spree, which it joins in Neustadt (Spree). It passes through the lignite mining region north of the Nochten opencast mine and is canalized for its whole length. Its basin is marked by past and present mining activities. The river is a principal landmark of the Schleife region, although it is locally considered only a stream.

Hornow-Wadelsdorf is a former municipality in the district of Spree-Neiße, in Brandenburg, Germany. On 1 January 2016 it was dissolved, and Hornow and Wadelsdorf became part of the town Spremberg.

Spree-Neiße (Lower Sorbian: Wokrejs Sprjewja-Nysa) is a Kreis (district) in the southern part of Brandenburg, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise) the districts Niederschlesischer Oberlausitzkreis and Kamenz in Saxony, the districts Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Dahme-Spreewald and Oder-Spree. The district-free city Cottbus is surrounded by the district. To the east is Poland.

Neuhausen/Spree (Lower Sorbian: Kopańce) is a municipality in the district of Spree-Neiße, in Lower Lusatia, Brandenburg, Germany.

The Lusatian Border Ridge (German: Lausitzer Grenzwall), also called the Lusatian Border Wall, is a natural region in Saxony and South Brandenburg. It lies not far from the town of Weißwasser and is bounded in the south and west by the Muskau Heath and in the north by the Cottbus Sand Plateau. To the west it transitions at the River Dahme into the Lower Fläming; to the east it continues on the far side of the border river of the Lusatian Neisse into Poland as the Wał Trzebnicki (Trebnitz Ridge) as far as the River Bóbr (German: Bober). The Lusatian Border Ridge and the Muskau Fold Arc consist of about 150,000 year old shove end moraine arcs of the Warthe Stage of the Saalian glaciation, that are characterized by several parallel valleys and ridges. In the area of the push moraines, layers of Cenozoic rock have been pushed up to the surface. The heavily rounded to flat slabs are covered by areas of sandur in the south. The longitudinal valleys are partly filled with water. By historical times the coal seams in strata near the surface were already being exploited for fuel. The natural vegetation would be mixed sessile oak-hornbeam-pine woodland, oak and beech forest and mixed beech-sessile oak-English oak woodland. The Lusatian Border Ridge also forms the boundary between Lower and Upper Lusatia, hence the name, which literally means "Lusatian Border Dyke".
