Howtown

Howtown Hotel is a hotel in Howtown, Cumbria, England, located near the southern shore of the Ullswater lake. Although it won the César Award for Best Hotel in 1991 by The Good Hotel Guide, Lonely Planet describes the hotel as "bewitchingly backwards" with early 20th century decor. As of 2001, the hotel contained 10 double rooms, 2 single rooms and 4 self-catering cottages. It has been run by four generations of the Baldry family since it opened in 1903.

St Peter’s Church is situated in the valley of Martindale in Cumbria, England. The church is located at the top of the hause on the minor road between Martindale and Howtown. It is within the parish of Martindale and is often referred to as the “New Church” to avoid confusion with St Martin’s Church, the “Old Church” and former place of worship of Martindale, which lies half a mile further up the valley. The church is a Grade II listed building.

Hallin Fell is a hill in the English Lake District surrounded on three sides by Ullswater.

Ullswater is a glacial lake in Cumbria, England and part of the Lake District National Park. It is the second largest lake in the region by both area and volume, after Windermere. The lake is about 7 miles (11 km) long, 0.75 miles (1 km) wide, and has a maximum depth of 63 metres (207 ft). Its outflow is River Eamont, which meets the River Eden at Brougham Castle before flowing into the Solway Firth. The lake is in the administrative county of Westmorland and Furness and the ceremonial county of Cumbria.

Bonscale Pike is a fell in the English Lake District, standing above Howtown on Ullswater. It is the northern end of a spur running north north west from Loadpot Hill on the main ridge of the Far Eastern Fells.

Steel Knotts is a fell in the English Lake District, near to Ullswater in the Far Eastern Fells. It stands between the valleys of Fusedale and Martindale on a ridge running north–south.

St Martin's Church, Martindale is located in the valley of Martindale in Cumbria, England. It is often referred to as the "Old Church" to avoid confusion with the nearby St Peter's Church which is situated half a mile down the valley. The church is dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours. It is now only in occasional use. The church is a Grade II* listed building.

Watermillock is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Matterdale, in the Westmorland and Furness district, in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, England. It is on the western shore of Ullswater, in the English Lake District. In 1931 the civil parish had a population of 448. On 1 April 1934 the civil parish was merged into Matterdale.

Loadpot Hill is a fell in the English Lake District, between Haweswater and Ullswater.

Sharrow Bay Country House was a hotel and restaurant located on the eastern shore of Ullswater near Pooley Bridge, Cumbria, England. The hotel is associated with the creation of the sticky toffee pudding.On 23 September 2020 Sharrow Bay officially announced it had gone into administration. It closed in March 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and has not since reopened.

Arthur's Pike is a fell in the English Lake District, near Ullswater. It is a subsidiary top on the ridge falling north from Loadpot Hill in the Far Eastern Fells. An extensive craggy face stands above the lower reach of Ullswater.

Matterdale is a civil parish in the Lake District of Cumbria, England. It lies on the northern shore of Ullswater. The parish includes the settlements of Dockray, Matterdale End, Ulcat row, Watermillock and Wreay. It had a population of 526 in 2001, reducing to 483 at the 2011 Census. Much of the parish consists of moorland and fells, including Hart Side, Gowbarrow Fell and Little Mell Fell. The "Three Dodds" (Stybarrow Dodd, Watson's Dodd and Great Dodd) lie on the western boundary of the parish. The western part of the parish is drained by Aira Beck, which falls over Aira Force to enter Ullswater. The parish is the setting for James Rebank's 2015 autobiographical book The Shepherd's Life.
