Lippe [lip] was a department of the First French Empire in present-day Germany. It was named after the river Lippe. It was formed in 1811, when Principality of Salm and a part of the Grand Duchy of Berg was annexed by France. Its territory is now part of the German lands of Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. Its capital was Münster. The department was subdivided into the following arrondissements and cantons (situation in 1812): Münster, cantons: Dülmen, Haltern, Münster, Nottuln and Sankt Mauritz. Neuenhaus, cantons: Bad Bentheim, Heede, Neuenhaus, Nordhorn and Wesuwe. Rees, cantons: Bocholt, Borken, Emmerich, Rees, Ringenberg and Stadtlohn. Steinfurt, cantons: Ahaus, Billerbeck, Coesfeld, Ochtrup, Rheine and Steinfurt.Its population in 1812 was 339,355.In the months before the Lippe department was formed, the arrondissements of Rees and Münster were part of Yssel-Supérieur, the arrondissement of Steinfurt was part of Bouches-de-l'Yssel and the arrondissement of Neuenhaus was part of Ems-Occidental. After Napoleon was defeated in 1814, the department was divided between the Kingdom of Hanover and Prussia.

Halle Münsterland is a 7,000-capacity convention center located in Münster, Germany. It has held concerts from well-known artists such as The Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Joan Baez, Pet Shop Boys, U2, Andrea Berg, Leonard Cohen, The Who (in 1970) and Chris De Burgh.

The Jovel Music Hall is a 1,500-seat concert venue located in Münster, Germany. Notable past performers include Motörhead, Duran Duran and Blue Öyster Cult. The Jovel Music Hall opened in 1979.

The Wolfgang Borchert Theater is a private theater in Münster. It is one of the oldest private theaters in Germany. The theater was founded in 1958 as the Theater im kleinen Raum at the Münster Prinzipalmarkt. At the start of the sixties it moved to the Münster Hauptbahnhof and became the Zimmertheater Münster. For the 1982/83 season it was renamed to the Wolfgang Borchert Theater. In 1999 it moved to its present location at Hafenweg.

The Musikhochschule Münster (Münster School of Music) founded in 1972, is a university of music, part of the University of Münster, it is one of the five music universities in North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1972 to 2003 the Musikhochschule Münster was integrated as a campus of the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. In 2004 the Musikhochschule Münster separated from Detmold and on the basis of the revision of the Hochschule law passed on 16 December 2003 became the Faculty of Music of the University of Münster on 1 April 2004. In 2004, the Musikhochschule Münster was the first music school in Germany to introduce the degree Bachelor of Music. In addition to the bachelor's degree, the Hochschule now offers the degree of Master of Music, the Diploma of Music and the Certificate. As the new degree courses were introduced, the Hochschule benefitted from the long-year cooperation as a department of the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. The Musikhochschule Münster now comprises 220 students, 15 professors (from Germany, Brazil, Holland and Norway) and 65 part-time instructors. The Symphony Orchestra is the largest ensemble of the Musikhochschule Münster. Past music directors included Joachim Harder, Geoffrey Moull and René Gulikers. The present conductor is Christian Lorenz.

The Museum of Lacquer Art (German:Museum für Lackkunst) is a museum in Münster, Westphalia devoted to the history of lacquer art. It is the only institution of its kind in the world, with a collection of around 1,000 objects from East Asia, Europe, and the Islamic world from more than two thousand years ago. The current director is art historian Gudrun Bühl. It is owned by BASF Coatings.

Münster Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station in the city of Münster in Germany.

Gymnasium Paulinum is a Gymnasium (secondary) school in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was founded in around 797 and is claimed to be the oldest school in Germany.

The Institute for New Testament Textual Research (German: Institut für neutestamentliche Textforschung — INTF) at the University of Münster, Westphalia, Germany, is to research the textual history of the New Testament and to reconstruct its Greek initial text on the basis of the entire manuscript tradition, the early translations and patristic citations; furthermore the preparation of an Editio Critica Maior based on the entire tradition of the New Testament in Greek manuscripts, early versions and New Testament quotations in ancient Christian literature. Under Kurt Aland's supervision, the INTF collected almost the entire material that was needed. The manuscript count in 1950 was 4250, in 1983, 5460, and in 2017 approximately 5800 manuscripts. Moreover, INTF produces several more editions and a variety of tools for New Testament scholarship, including the concise editions known as the "Nestle–Aland" – Novum Testamentum Graece and the UBS Greek New Testament. Many of the results are also available to the wider public at the adjoining Bible Museum, which is affiliated with the institute. First supplements of the Editio Critica Maior with the Catholic epistles and the Acts of the Apostles have been published since 1997.

Bible Museum Münster is a museum located in Münster, Germany, telling the story of the Bible from its handwritten beginnings until today. The main focus lays on the tradition of Greek New Testament as well as the German Bible. The museum forms part of the Institute for New Testament Textual Research at the University of Münster.

The Erbdrostenhof is a three-wing late Baroque palace in Münster, North-Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on Salzstraße. It was designed by Johann Conrad Schlaun for Adolf Heidenreich Freiherr Droste zu Vischering, Erbdrost of Münster and built between 1753 and 1757. Johann Christoph Manskirch produced sculptures for the building, whilst Nikolaus Loder painted frescoes in the interior - the latter were damaged during World War Two and restored between 1965 and 1967 by the Austrian restorer Paul Reckendorfer. The building is also notable as the birthplace of Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart.
