Spain Park High School (SPHS) is a four-year public high school in the Birmingham, Alabama, suburb of Hoover. It is the smaller of two high schools in the Hoover City School System. School colors are Carolina blue, black, and white, and the athletic teams are called the Jaguars. SPHS competes in AHSAA Class 7A athletics.

Oak Mountain High School is a four-year public high school in the northern Shelby County suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama. It is part of Shelby County School Schools.

Indian Springs Village (often simply called Indian Springs) is a rural town in Shelby County, Alabama, United States, in the Birmingham metropolitan area. It incorporated effective November 14, 1990. At the 2010 census the population was 2,363, up from 2,225 in 2000. An F2 tornado on Palm Sunday, March 27, 1994 damaged business buildings of Indian Springs, in addition to structures in Pelham, Helena, and Inverness. Another tornado struck the town on March 25, 2021, causing EF2 damage to several homes and downing trees throughout several neighborhoods. The tornado eventually reached low-end EF3 strength northeast of town.

Inverness is a former census-designated place and now neighborhood within Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, United States. It derives from a Scottish city of the same name. U.S. Route 280 runs through Inverness and includes many restaurants and shopping centers, along with a major intersection with Valleydale Road (County Road 17). The Inverness community is only a few miles from downtown Birmingham. The Cahaba River, Lake Heather, and the Inverness Country Club can be found in Inverness. Inverness is mostly located within the city limits of Hoover, with some portions in unincorporated Shelby County. An F2 tornado damaged business buildings here along with Pelham, Helena, and Indian Springs on March 27, 1994 .

Oak Mountain State Park is a public recreation area located approximately 20 miles (32 km) south of Birmingham in the northeast quadrant of the city of Pelham, Alabama, United States. It is the state's largest state park at 9,940 acres (4,020 ha) and is home to the Alabama Wildlife Center, Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, and Oak Mountain BMX Track. Park activities include hiking, running, mountain biking, swimming, camping, fishing, horseback riding, and golf. The park is managed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Briarwood Christian School is a private school in Birmingham, Alabama. It was founded by Briarwood Presbyterian Church in 1965. In 1970, when integration of the public schools was mandated by the federal government, the IRS began revoking the tax exempt status of segregation academies. During this time the school added a non-discrimination policy, although no black students were admitted.

Hoover City Schools is the public school system serving the city of Hoover, Alabama within the Birmingham, Alabama, metropolitan area. Seventeen schools comprise the 55 square-mile system: 10 elementary schools, three middle schools, one intermediate school and two high schools. A five-member Board of Education, appointed by the Hoover City Council, acts as the governing body of the school system. Hoover City Schools has more National Board-Certified Teachers than any other system in Alabama; more Alabama Teachers of the Year than any other system in Alabama; and ACT scores above state and national averages. The system has a strong focus on instructional technology and maintains safe, clean facilities. The system has consistently grown in student population since its inception in the late 1980s.

Acton is an unincorporated community in Jefferson County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is a suburban area bordering the city of Birmingham, centered around the intersection of Caldwell Mill Road and Old Looney Mill Road just west of the Cahaba River. It is not to be confused with the former mining village of Acton, Alabama in Shelby County (now within the city of Hoover, approximately 6+1⁄2 miles to the southwest as the crow flies. Initially, this Acton was also in Shelby County before a border adjustment shifted it into Jefferson County.

Brook Highland (formerly known as Lake Purdy) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 7,406.
