Briarwood Christian School is a private school in Birmingham, Alabama. It was founded by Briarwood Presbyterian Church in 1965. In 1970, when integration of the public schools was mandated by the federal government, the IRS began revoking the tax exempt status of segregation academies. During this time the school added a non-discrimination policy, although no black students were admitted.

Jefferson State Community College (informally Jeff State) is a public community college with multiple campuses in Alabama, including the Jefferson Campus in northeastern Birmingham, Alabama (eastern Jefferson County), the Shelby-Hoover Campus in northern Shelby County, the St. Clair-Pell City Campus in Pell City, and the Chilton-Clanton Campus in Clanton. School colors are Carolina blue, black, and white, and the athletic teams are called the Jaguars. SPHS competes in AHSAA Class 7A athletics.

Eagle Point is a census-designated place in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census and is part of the Birmingham Metropolitan Area. The area was struck by a long-tracked low-end EF3 tornado on March 25, 2021, damaging or destroying several homes and downing trees. Five people were injured by the tornado.It was first named as a CDP in the 2020 Census which listed a population of 2,903.

Meadowbrook is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 9,688. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area.

Inverness is a former census-designated place and now neighborhood within Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, United States. It derives from a Scottish city of the same name. U.S. Route 280 runs through Inverness and includes many restaurants and shopping centers, along with a major intersection with Valleydale Road (County Road 17). The Inverness community is only a few miles from downtown Birmingham. The Cahaba River, Lake Heather, and the Inverness Country Club can be found in Inverness. Inverness is mostly located within the city limits of Hoover, with some portions in unincorporated Shelby County. An F2 tornado damaged business buildings here along with Pelham, Helena, and Indian Springs on March 27, 1994 .

Indian Springs Village (often simply called Indian Springs) is a rural town in Shelby County, Alabama, United States, in the Birmingham metropolitan area. It incorporated effective November 14, 1990. At the 2010 census the population was 2,363, up from 2,225 in 2000. An F2 tornado on Palm Sunday, March 27, 1994 damaged business buildings of Indian Springs, in addition to structures in Pelham, Helena, and Inverness. Another tornado struck the town on March 25, 2021, causing EF2 damage to several homes and downing trees throughout several neighborhoods. The tornado eventually reached low-end EF3 strength northeast of town.

Chelsea High School is a public institution located in Chelsea, Alabama, United States. It is in the Shelby County School system.

The Alabama Wildlife Center is a wildlife rehabilitation and education center located in Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama, United States. It is the largest such center in the state. The center treats injured or orphaned native birds from across the state of Alabama from over 100 different species. Every year, AWC receives almost 2,000 avian patients. The Alabama Wildlife Center's education program focuses on conservation education and the preservation of Alabama's biodiversity and avian resources. AWC's programming reaches over 30,000 people annually from Alabama and beyond.
