Homburg, Saarland

Karlsberg Castle (German: Schloss Karlsberg) is a castle ruin on Buchenberg east of Homburg in Saarland, Germany. The castle was constructed from 1778 to 1788 in Baroque and Classical style by Johann Christian von Mannlich, architect and general building director of the dukes of Zweibrücken, by order of Charles II August, Duke of Zweibrücken. The castle was the largest country palace of Europe and served as the residence of the Duke of Zweibrücken. In 1793 the castle was destroyed by French revolutionary troops.

Homburg (Saar) Hauptbahnhof is a railway station in the town of Homburg in the German state of Saarland. It is a through station with four platforms and seven platform tracks and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a station of category 3. It is located at the junction of the Homburg–Neunkirchen line and the Mannheim–Saarbrücken line (Palatine Ludwig Railway). It has been the western terminus of line S1 of the Rhine-Neckar S-Bahn since 2006.

The Hohenburg, also called Homburg Castle or Fortress Hohenburg, is a ruined castle located Homburg in the Saarpfalz district in Saarland, Germany. It stands atop the 325 metres (1,066 ft)-high Schlossberg above the Schlossberg Caves (Schlossberghöhlen). In the 12th century the castle was the seat of the counts of Homburg. In 1330 the received city rights (Stadtrechte) for their village at the foot of Schlossberg from the Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. After the death of the last Count of Homburg in 1449 castle and city fell to the counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken. They rebuilt the castle in the second half of the 16th century into a renaissance palace, and then to a fortress. In the 1600s King Louis XIV of France and his master builder Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban expanded the fort and fortified the city. The basic structure of Homburg's old town dates back to this time. The fortifications were first demolished in 1697, and finally in 1714 when they served as a quarry for the construction of Karlsberg Castle. From 1981 the ruins were excavated and partially restored.

The Waldstadion Homburg is the home stadium of Oberliga Südwest club FC 08 Homburg. It has a spectator capacity of 16,488. In the three seasons — 1986–87, 1987–88 and 1989–90 — that Homburg were in the Bundesliga the average attendance was less than 8,000 per game.

Römermuseum Schwarzenacker (Schwarzenacker Roman Museum) is an archaeological open-air museum in Schwarzenacker, a district of Homburg, Saarland, Germany. The museum was constructed by archaeologist Alfonso Kolling, who also led the archaeological excavations at the site. Current director is Klaus Kell.

Kirrberg (in dialect Kerrbrich) is a district of Homburg, situated in the eastern part of the Saarpfalz (Saar-Palatinate) district and the Saarland bordering state Rhineland-Palatinate. Until End 1973 was Kirrberg an independent municipality in the former Homburg district. Homburg (5 km), Zweibrücken (7 km), Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern (both 35 km) are the closest towns. As of 1 August 2021, 2,607 inhabitants live in Kirrberg.The river Lambsbach runs through the district from east to west.

Wörschweiler Abbey (Latin: Verneri-Villerium; German: Kloster Wörschweiler; also Werschweiler in older literature) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Homburg in Saarland state, Germany. The monastery site is about 30 kilometres east of Saarbrücken, on a mountain called Marienberg.In 1131, Earl Friedrich of Saarwerden and his wife Gertrud founded Wörschweiler Abbey. In 1171, Wörscheiler Abbey became a daughter house of Villers-Bettnach Abbey.

Merburg is a ruined small castle near Homburg, Saarland, Germany. Details about the castle's builders and most of their owners are unknown. Parts of the fortification date to the early 12th century, likely at the location of an older refuge castle from the 10th century. In 1179, a Count Dietrich von Merburg is documented. The castle was probably abandoned in the late 12th century.

The municipal district of Einöd (German: [ˈaɪnœt]; Palatine German: Ehnet [ˈɛːnɘt]) is a quarter (Stadtteil) of the city of Homburg and with it part of Saarpfalz-Kreis in Saarland. It includes three municipal divisions: Einöd, Ingweiler and Schwarzenacker. In 2021, Einöd had 3,392 inhabitants.
