Whitebirk

Blackburn power stations are a series of electricity generating stations that have provided electric power to the town of Blackburn and the wider area from 1895 to the present. The first station in Jubilee Street, Blackburn began operating in 1895. A new larger station known as Blackburn East or Whitebirk power station was commissioned in 1921 and was rebuilt in stages over the period 1942 to 1955. Whitebirk station closed in 1976. The 60 MW Blackburn Mill Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station has generated electricity since 2002. The Blackburn energy from waste (EfW) plant is currently (2020) being planned.

Imperial Mill, Blackburn is a cotton spinning mill at Wallace and Gorse Street in Greenbank, Blackburn, Lancashire, England. It was designed by P.S. Stott, built in 1901, on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1929's and production finished in 1980.

It was established in 1997 and its name means The College of Knowledge and Guidance. The majority of pupils that attend the school are local, but some come from around the UK, and a small minority are international students. The school therefore offers boarding facilities for about a third of its pupils.

Our Lady & St John Catholic College is a mixed 11-16 comprehensive school in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. The school was created in 1987 by the amalgamation of Notre Dame Grammar School and St. John Rigby R.C. High School. A purpose-built Vocational Centre opened in September 2009.

St Thomas' Church was an Anglican parish church in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. The church was situated on the eastern side of Lambeth Street, between Billinge Street and Skiddaw Street. It was designed by the Lancaster architect E. G. Paley. The first plan had been prepared in 1859, but the church was not built until 1864–65. The first design was in brick, but the patron insisted on its being in stone. Originally the plan had been to seat 766 people, but this was later increased to 1,054. The church cost £4,469 (equivalent to £470,000 in 2021). The church closed in 1977 and has since been demolished.

It was established from a house in 1962, incorporating two terrace houses, and has since been expanded on several occasions. It became the first Masjid in Lancashire, recognised as the official central mosque of Blackburn.

Bank Hey (also Sunnybower or Sunny Bower) is a suburb of Blackburn, Lancashire, England. It is located to the east of the town, north of Whitebirk and near the boundary with Hyndburn.

The Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital is an acute District General Hospital in Blackburn, Lancashire operated by the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Blackburn Cemetery, sometimes known as Blackburn Old Cemetery, is a public cemetery in the town of Blackburn, Lancashire which lies on Whalley New Road with views over the town. It opened on 1st July 1857.

Blackburn Central High School is a co-educational secondary school located in Blackburn, Lancashire.The school was formed from the merger of Beardwood High School and Blakewater College and relocated to a new combined campus in September 2012. Construction of the new school site was funded by the Building Schools for the Future programme. Previously a foundation school administered by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, in October 2019 Blackburn Central High School converted to academy status and is now sponsored by the Champion Education Trust. Blackburn Central High School offers GCSEs as programmes of study for pupils. Until 2022, the school shared a campus with Crosshill Special School. Crosshill Special School relocated to their own premises in Darwen in January 2022.
