Fridalen

Fridalen Church (Norwegian: Fridalen kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Fridalen neighborhood in the borough of Årstad in the city of Bergen. It is the church for the Fridalen parish which is part of the Bergensdalen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, stone church was built in a rectangular style in 1937 using designs by the architect Peter Andersen. The church seats about 450 people.

Årstad is a borough in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. Historically, the area was a separate municipality called Årstad until 1916 when it was merged into the city of Bergen. The borough has similar (but not the same) boundaries to those of the old municipality. The borough is located south of the city centre, and has a population of around 39,906 as of 1 January 2014. Årstad is home to Bergen's hospital, Haukeland University Hospital, as well as Norway's second largest vocational high school, Årstad videregående skole (the largest being Sandefjord videregående skole), and Brann Stadion, the stadium of the city's largest association football team, Brann.

Brann Stadion is a football stadium in Bergen, Norway. It was constructed in 1919, and has been the home of the football club Brann ever since. The stadium lies 3 km (1.9 mi) south of the city centre, at the foot of Mount Ulriken. The record attendance dates from 1 October 1961, when Brann hosted Fredrikstad in the cup semi-final, in front of 24,800 spectators. Though its league attendance record is 23,900, from 1978, when they hosted Lillestrøm. Brann Stadion has, per. 2009, a capacity of 17,317. A redevelopment project was underway, aimed at increasing the capacity to over 20,000, but it has been put on hold. Brann Stadion has the third largest attendance capacity in Norway. Brann Stadion was owned jointly by Brann (49%) and Stor-Bergen Boligbyggelag (51%). However, in an act of local-patriotism the Stor-Bergen Boligbyggelag sold its shares to Brann for the same sum they bought the shares for, despite the added value of the stadium as a result of the still ongoing reconstruction (December 2006).

Bergensdalen is a valley in Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is surrounded by the Ulriken, Landås, Løvstakken and Nattlands mountains.

Langhaugen videregående skole (formerly Langhaugen gymnas) is a county upper secondary school in Årstad, a suburb of Bergen. The school opened in 1961 as a replacement for Sydneshaugen skole, which is now used by the University of Bergen; the school building was designed by the city architect Eystein Michalsen. It offers specialised study in music, dance and drama. In 2018 it was the fourth most popular school at its level in Bergen by enrollment.

Haukelandshallen is an indoor sport arena in Årstad borough, Bergen, Norway. It holds 5,000 people. The arena hosts mainly team handball matches, is the home arena for Tertnes HE and hosted the 2008 European Men's Handball Championship. The basketball team Ulriken Eagles also plays there.

Slettebakken is a neighborhood in the borough of Årstad in Bergen. It has approximately 7,514 residents and covers 112 km² of land and 0.04 km² of freshwater. The neighborhood is bordered by Minde to the west, Kronstad to the north, Landås to the east and Fantoft and Nattlandsfjellet to the south. Bergenshallen, Slettebakken Church, Slettebakken School, the International School of Bergen, Langhaugen High School and Sletten Center are among the notable landmarks. Three light rail stops serve the neighborhood (Slettebakken, Sletten, and Brann stadion). The neighborhood is served by the local newspaper Årstadposten.

Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (Norwegian: Høgskulen på Vestlandet) or HVL is a Norwegian public institution of higher education, established in January 2017 through the merging of formerly independent colleges across five campuses: Bergen, Førde, Haugesund, Sogndal and Stord. Its oldest programs - teacher education in Stord - can be traced to 1839. The total number of students at HVL is about 16000, and there are 1800 academic and administrative staff. Its main campus is in the Kronstad neighborhood of Bergen, Norway. Western Norway University of Applied Sciences provides professional education within health and social sciences, engineering, economic and administrative science, music and teaching. It offers education on the Bachelor and Master levels, continuing education, and on the Doctoral (PhD) level. Around 2700 students graduate with degrees from HVL every year. In June, 2016, after more than one year of negotiations, the executive leadership of three west Norwegian higher education institutions – Bergen University College, Stord/Haugesund University College, and Sogn og Fjordane University College – officially announced their decision to merge. From 2017, the English name is Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (abbreviated according to the Norwegian name: HVL).The founding Rector (President) was professor Berit Rokne, and in 2021 Gunnar Yttri, a historian, was appointed the institution’s Rector for the period 2021-2024.

Haukeland University Hospital (Norwegian: Haukeland universitetssjukehus) is a hospital in Bergen, Norway, and one of the eleven institutions that make up Bergen Hospital Trust. Haukeland is the largest in Norway in terms of number of patients, and serves as the local hospital of Bergen, Midthordland and Nordhordland, the central hospital of Vestland county, and the regional hospital for Vestland and Rogaland counties. The general area of the hospital is about 200,000 square metres (2,200,000 sq ft) and the Central Block is about 125,000 square metres (1,350,000 sq ft). They have a co-operation with the University of Bergen, including the Gades Institute of Pathology. The Hospital is the greatest employer in Hordaland, in terms of number of employees. Haukeland is a national special hospital and resource center for Burn injuries, air-pressure injuries (diving), Cornea-protesises and treatment of intercranial tumors. It is the site of RELIS.

Bergenshallen is an indoor ice hockey arena in Bergen, Norway. It was built in 1968 and seats 1,800 people and has standing room for 1,200 more. The arena hosts the home games of the Bergen Flyers ice hockey team.

Landås is a neighbourhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. Landås is located by the western side of the Ulriken mountain massif, from southeast of Haukeland University Hospital to the neighborhood of Nattland almost 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) further south. It was the last part of the historic Årstad municipality to be urbanised, with the development of Landås taking place mainly after World War II. The Faculty of Education of Bergen University College is located in Landås. The Grieg Academy is the original name of the music department at this campus of Bergen University College, however the music school with a very similar name - "Grieg Academy-Institute" - is affiliated with the University of Bergen and located in downtown Bergen. The unique Landås Church is located in this neighborhood. Landås was a separate administrative borough until the year 2000, when it was merged with the northern part of the borough of Løvstakksiden borough forming Årstad borough. In 1994, Landås borough had a population of 20,252 people.

Kronstad Station is a former station at Kronstad in Bergen, Norway opened in 1913 and closed in 1965. It was served by trains on the Bergen Line until January 1965, when the stretch on which the station was located was closed following the opening of the Ulriken Tunnel in 1964. The former station is located south of the Kronstad Tunnel, which passes under Haukeland University Hospital and Møllendal Cemetery between Kronstad and Fløen. There were plans for converting the tunnel into a bicycle path, as it is rarely used by trains nowadays.
