Caishikou station

Caishikou (Chinese: 菜市口; pinyin: Càishìkǒu) is a neighborhood in Beijing, situated in Xicheng District. Part of it, known as Caishikou Execution Grounds (菜市口法场), was where most of Beijing's capital punishments were carried out during the Qing Dynasty and were open to public viewing. Caishikou is served by Caishikou Station, on lines 4 and 7 of the Beijing Subway.

The Huguang Guild Hall (simplified Chinese: 湖广会馆; traditional Chinese: 湖廣會館; pinyin: Húguǎng huìguǎn; lit. 'Huguang Assembly Hall') in Beijing is one of Beijing's most renowned Beijing opera (Peking opera) theaters.

Rong Bao Zhai (simplified Chinese: 荣宝斋; traditional Chinese: 榮寶齋, Studio of Glorious Treasures) is an old stationery, calligraphy and painting shop in Beijing, China. It is located in Liulichang outside the Hepingmen Gate.

Ji or Jicheng was an ancient city in northern China, which has become the longest continuously inhabited section of modern Beijing. Historical mention of Ji dates to the founding of the Zhou dynasty in about 1045 BC. Archaeological finds in southwestern Beijing where Ji was believed to be located date to the Spring and Autumn period (771–476 BC). The city of Ji served as the capital of the ancient states of Ji and Yan until the unification of China by the Qin dynasty in 221 BC. Thereafter, the city was a prefectural capital for Youzhou through the Han dynasty, Three Kingdoms, Western Jin dynasty, Sixteen Kingdoms, Northern Dynasties, and Sui dynasty. With the creation of a Jizhou (蓟州) during the Tang dynasty in what is now Tianjin Municipality, the city of Ji took on the name Youzhou. Youzhou was one of the Sixteen Prefectures ceded to the Khitans during the Five Dynasties. The city then became the southern capital of the Liao dynasty and then main capital of the Jin dynasty (1115–1234). In the 13th century, Kublai Khan built a new capital city for the Yuan dynasty adjacent to Ji to the north. The old city of Ji became a suburb to Dadu. In the Ming dynasty, the old and new cities were merged by Beijing's Ming-era city wall.

Xuanwu District (simplified Chinese: 宣武区; traditional Chinese: 宣武區; pinyin: Xuānwǔ Qū) was a district of the Municipality of Beijing, China. It was located southwest to the city center, outside of Xuanwu Gate. The district was merged into Xicheng District in July 2010. Located outside the Imperial Inner City and predominantly reserved for the lower class, the district was over 16.5 km2 in size. Although historically considered a wealthy area of Beijing as one of the older districts of the former Imperial City, Xuanwu District underwent rapid changes in its recent history leading up its merger into Xicheng District. The area was also the birthplace of Peking Opera and housed the Caishikou Execution Grounds during the Qing Dynasty. Xuanwu District had a large Muslim population. The Zhengyici Peking Opera Theatre (Chinese: 正乙祠戏楼; pinyin: Zhèngyǐcí Xìlóu), located on a hutong in the Xuanwu District of Beijing, is one of the best-known Beijing opera theatres. It is also one of the oldest wooden theatres in China. Zhengyici means a temple (ci) for Zhengyi Xuantan Laozu (正乙玄坛老祖).

Hufangqiao Station (simplified Chinese: 虎坊桥站; traditional Chinese: 虎坊橋站; pinyin: Hǔfāngqiáo Zhàn) is a station on Line 7 of the Beijing Subway. It was opened on December 28, 2014 as a part of the stretch between Beijing West railway station and Jiaohuachang and is located between Caishikou and Zhushikou.

Xuanwumen Station (simplified Chinese: 宣武门站; traditional Chinese: 宣武門站; pinyin: Xuānwǔmén Zhàn) is an interchange station between Line 2 and Line 4 of the Beijing Subway. It is named for Xuanwumen, a former gate in Beijing's city wall that was demolished during construction of the subway. The station opened in 1971 and handles an average of 350,000 passengers per day in 2012. Interchange volumes can reach per hour can reach 15,000 passengers per hour in the morning peak. The large transfer volumes overwhelm the small interchange corridors, which can narrow to only 2.4 meters in width. Three new transfer corridors were added in 2020, increasing transfer capacity of the station six-fold to around 55,000 passengers per hour.

Xuanwumen (simplified Chinese: 宣武门; traditional Chinese: 宣武門; pinyin: Xuānwǔmén; Manchu:ᡥᠣᡵᠣᠨᠪᡝᠠᠯᡤᡳᠮᠪᡠᡵᡝᡩᡠᡴᠠ;Möllendorff:horon be algimbure duka; lit.the gate of military might}});Möllendorff:tob dergi duka; lit. "Gate of the declaration of power"), was a gate in Beijing's former city wall. In the 1960s, the gate was torn down during the construction of the city's subway. Today, Xuanwumen is a transport node in Beijing as well as the location of Xuanwumen Station on Line 2 and Line 4 of the Beijing Subway.

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Chinese: 圣母无染原罪堂), colloquially known as the Xuanwumen church (Chinese: 宣武门天主堂; pinyin: Xuānwǔmén Tiānzhǔtáng) or Nantang (Chinese: 南堂; lit. 'the South Church') to the locals, is a historic Roman Catholic Church located in the Beijing, China, Xicheng District, near the Beijing Financial Street. While the original foundation of the cathedral was in 1605, making it the oldest Catholic church in Beijing, the current building in Baroque style dates from 1904. The present Archbishop Joseph Li Shan, installed in September 2007, is one of the few Catholic bishops also recognised by the Catholic Patriotic Association. The church has been closed for repairs since 10 December 2018.

Niujie (Chinese: 牛街; pinyin: Niú jiē; Wade–Giles: Niu-chieh; lit. 'Oxen Street') is a subdistrict in Xicheng District in southwest Beijing, China. The name "Niujie" can refer to the street Niujie or to the neighborhood Niujie. The subdistrict was previously in Xuanwu District before the district was merged into Xicheng District in 2010. As of 2020, its total population is 51,410.The Niujie Subdistrict is administered by the Niujie Subdistrict Administrative Office. The core area of this district is along the street Niujie. The Niujie core area, a Hui people neighborhood, has Beijing's largest concentration of Muslim people. As of 2013 there is a Muslim-oriented hospital as well as social services, cafés, shops, restaurants, and schools catering to the Muslim population. In 2002 Wenfei Wang, Shangyi Zhou, and C. Cindy Fan, authors of "Growth and Decline of Muslim Hui Enclaves in Beijing," wrote that Niujie "continues to thrive as a major residential area of the Hui people in Beijing and as a prominent supplier of Hui foods and services for the entire city." The neighborhood has the Niujie Mosque, which according to Wenfei Wang, Shangyi Zhou, and Cindy Fan, "mark[s] the identity of Niujie" and has an element of centrality in the community. Most larger Hui neighborhoods in Beijing have their own mosques.
