Gladwyne, Pennsylvania

The Henry Foundation for Botanical Research is a nonprofit botanical garden of 50 acres located in Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania at 801 Stony Lane, Gladwyne. The garden was established in 1948 by botanist and plant explorer Mary Gibson Henry (1884-1967) for plants that she collected through remote areas of the West, Midwest, and Southeast United States. The garden has been maintained by the Foundation since 1950.Today the garden contains scenic plantings, gardens, and trails for walking and horseback riding set among steep hills along Rock Creek, near the Schuylkill River. It also contains 15 taxa of native magnolias, in a program established under the auspices of the North American Plant Collections Consortium (NAPCC) to help broaden the genetic diversity of organized botanical collections.

Gladwyne Historic District is a national historic district located at Gladwyne in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It encompasses 57 contributing buildings in the historic core of Gladwyne known as "Merion Square." It includes mainly mill or farm workers' dwelling. They are predominantly 2 1/2-story, two bay stuccoed stone structures dated to the early- to mid-19th century. Notable buildings include the Guard House Inn, "War Office" (1798), and Gladwyne Library.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Mill Creek Historic District near Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne, Pennsylvania is a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1980. The area of the historic district was increased on August 30, 1996.The area is roughly bounded by the Schuylkill River, Mill Creek, Righter's Mill, Rose Glen, and Monk's Rds.

Dove Lake is a reservoir in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It was created by damming Mill Creek. Dove Lake was the setting of the 1885 painting The Swimming Hole by Thomas Eakins. Dove Lake is on a privately owned property in Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne.

The Idlewild Farm Complex is a 26-acre (11 ha) plot of land in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. It was originally part of the Welsh Tract and is now a portion of the Bridlewild Trails Association.

Dolobran is a Shingle Style house at 231 Laurel Lane in Haverford, Pennsylvania. It was designed by architect Frank Furness for shipping magnate Clement Griscom in 1881, and was expanded at least twice by Furness.: 228  The house and 146-acre (59 hectare) estate served as a summer retreat for Griscom, his wife, and five children.: 229 It was named for Dolobran, the Welsh manor and estate of Griscom's ancestors.

All Saints', Wynnewood is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania located in Wynnewood, Montgomery County. In 2019, it reported 149 members, average attendance of 91, and $229,361 in plate and pledge financial support. The church's first services as a mission congregation were held in a private house on January 1, 1911, with the laying of a cornerstone on October 7, 1911, by Bishop Thomas J. Garland and first services in the church on December 18, 1911. It was admitted into union with the diocesan convention in 1917. The building was consecrated by Bishop Philip M. Rhinelander on Sexagesima Sunday, January 31, 1921. The building was enlarged significantly in 1921 with additions by the Furness & Evans architectural partnership. A rood and roodscreen were erected in 1925. The current parish house was built in 1955. The church's organ is by Danish-American builder M. P. Möller (Opus R-910, 1974), previously Skinner Organ Co. (Opus 814, 1929). It has 25 ranks, 1,676 pipes, four divisions, three manuals, 21 stops, and 32 registers. It also previously had a two-manual Bates & Culley organ (1912). A lady chapel was built and consecrated in 1961. The church includes significant stained glass by Nicola D'Ascenzo and Duncan Niles Terry; many of the windows are from the Philadelphia studio of English-born artist Arthur R. Willett. The church also includes work by Philadelphia liturgical artist Davis d'Ambly. The parish's priest in charge is the Rev. Edward Rix, a graduate of the University of King's College in Nova Scotia. The church uses the 1928 Book of Common Prayer at all services. Philadelphia Orchestra Vox Ama Deus is in residence in the parish, led by the current parish organist and Choir Master, Dr. Valentin Radu. The parish hall's acoustics make it a popular venue for concerts and rehearsals, including by American rock band The Doors.

House of Prayer Episcopal Church in Branchtown/Ogontz neighborhood of Philadelphia is an historically African American church in the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania near La Salle University. It was founded as a mission of St. Luke's, Germantown in 1860. It has a small adjacent cemetery for members of the Barclay family. Its name is taken from Isaiah 56:7, Matthew 21:13, Mark 11:17, and Luke 19:46: "Mine house shall be called a house of prayer for all people." The church building was designed by noted American Anglo-Catholic architect Emlen Trenchard Littell (1838-1891), whose brother was its first rector. Littell's other work includes the Church of the Incarnation, New York City, St. Paul's, Poughkeepsie, and the former St. John's Cathedral, Wilmington, Delaware. The completed church was consecrated on July 14, 1863, by Bishop William Bacon Stevens. The rectory was built in 1908, and a large parish house was added in 1925. In 1941, a "catacombs chapel" was installed in the basement by rector the Rev. Dr. Howard M. Stuckert. A 1964 diocesan report described the Branchtown neighborhood as "formerly Jewish, now predominantly Negro." In 1964, the parish had 287 members. In 2019, the parish reported 97 members and 15 average Sunday attendance, with $39,319 in plate and pledge financial support. It reported no attendance for 2020. The church has had a number of internal organizations, including Scouting groups for boys and girls, Episcopal Church Women, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew for men, the Girls' Friendly Society, and the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament.

Cedar Crest – originally known as "Dolobran II", and recently as "Linden Hill" – is a French-Norman-style mansion and estate at 1543 Monk Road in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. Located on a hill overlooking the Schuylkill River, it was designed by architect Edmund B. Gilchrist, 1928–31. Best known as the former residence of Campbell's Soup-heir John T. Dorrance, Jr., it is a contributing property in the Mill Creek Historic District.

The Pennsylvania Lawn Tennis Championships was a tennis tournament played at the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford, Pennsylvania. The first edition was held in 1894. It was part of the Eastern Grass Court Circuit, a series of grass court tournaments on the American Eastern Seaboard in the lead up to the U. S. National Championships which also included Rye/South Orange, Meadow Club, Newport Casino, and others. The men's events were part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit from 1970–1974, before which they were amateur events. They were held on outdoor hard courts from 1970–72 and grass courts from 1973–1974.

Merion Cricket Club is a private club in Haverford, Pennsylvania, founded in 1865. The current clubhouse is its sixth, the last four having been designed by Philadelphia architect Frank Furness and his partner, Allen Evans, who was also a founder of the club. The club was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987 for its leading role in the promotion, development and continued support of cricket, golf, squash, and tennis in the United States.

Haverford is an affluent, unincorporated community located in both Haverford Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, US, and Lower Merion Township in Montgomery County, about 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) opened Haverford Station in 1880 on their Main Line west out of Broad Street Station (now Suburban Station) in Philadelphia. Haverford sits at milepost 9.17. Haverford borders the unincorporated portion of Haverford Township called "Havertown," as well as the unincorporated communities of Bryn Mawr, Gladwyne, Ardmore, Wynnewood, and a small portion of Broomall. Haverford's name is derived from the name of the town of Haverfordwest in Wales, UK.Today, Haverford is most notable for being the site of Haverford College and one of the United States' oldest country clubs, the Merion Cricket Club. Major roads in Haverford include Lancaster Avenue (US 30/Lincoln Highway), Montgomery Avenue, Haverford Road, and I-476 (Blue Route).
