The Riverton Historic District is a historic district in the town of Barkhamsted, Connecticut that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. It encompasses most of the historic 19th century industrial village of Riverton, whose mills were powered by the waters of the Still River and the East Branch Farmington River, which is located in the far northwestern corner of the town.

The Old Riverton Inn is a historic hotel and tavern at 436 East River Road in the Riverton village of Barkhamsted, Connecticut. Built in 1811, it has been in continuous operation as a traveler's accommodation since then. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Riverton is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. It is in the northwest corner of the town, bordered to the north by the town of Hartland in Hartford County. The village sits at the confluence of the Still River with the West Branch of the Farmington River. Riverton was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census. 94 acres (0.38 km2) of the village center comprise the Riverton Historic District.

The William Moore Jr. House is a historic house at 5 Mountain Road in the Riverton village of Barkhamsted, Connecticut. Built about 1820, it is a good local example of Federal period architecture in brick, and is notable for its association with the Moore family, where both the father and son were involved in the early chair-making trade for which Riverton is well known. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The American Legion Forest CCC Shelter is a historic rustic log shelter, located on the west side of West River Road within the American Legion State Forest in Barkhamsted, Connecticut. It is the only surviving one of four such structures in the area built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and one of only two CCC-built shelters to survive in the state. The shelter was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

American Legion State Forest is a Connecticut state forest that sits on the West Branch Farmington River opposite Peoples State Forest in the town of Barkhamsted.

The American Legion State Forest Trails is a system of Blue-Blazed hiking trails in the Pleasant Valley section of Barkhamsted, Connecticut. The trails, which collectively total 3.18 miles (5.12 km) in length, are entirely within American Legion State Forest. The American Legion State Forest Trails consist of two official "Blue-Blazed" hiking trails: Henry Buck Trail (2.3 miles) Turkey Vulture Trail (0.88 mile)

Peoples State Forest is a Connecticut state forest occupying 3,059 acres (1,238 ha) along the West Branch Farmington River opposite American Legion State Forest in the town of Barkhamsted. It is managed for forest products, wildlife habitat, and recreational uses that include hiking, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.

Located in the north-central part of the state, the district is anchored by the state capital of Hartford. It encompasses much of central Connecticut and includes towns within Hartford, Litchfield, and Middlesex counties. Principal cities include: Bristol, Hartford, and Torrington. The district has been represented by Democrat John B. Larson since 1999.

The gross domestic product of the region was $5.1 trillion dollars as of 2022 and contains some of the most developed states based on the Human Development Index, with every state with the exception of Maine above the national average. It is also the most densely populated region in the United States, with 320 people per square mile (120 people/km2). The U.S. Census Bureau defines the Northeast United States as having a total area of 181,324 sq mi (469,630 km2), making it the smallest region of the United States by total area.
