The Externsteine relief is a monumental rock relief depiction of the Descent from the Cross scene, carved into the side of the Externsteine sandstone formation in the Teutoburg Forest. The Externsteine are located near Detmold, now in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia but in the Middle Ages in the Duchy of Saxony. It is the oldest relief of this type known north of the Alps, dated to the high medieval period (likely the 12th century).

The Externsteine ([ˈɛkstɐnʃtaɪnə]) is a distinctive sandstone rock formation located in the Teutoburg Forest, near the town of Horn-Bad Meinberg in the Lippe district of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The formation is a tor consisting of several tall, narrow columns of rock which rise abruptly from the surrounding wooded hills. In a popular tradition going back to an idea proposed to Hermann Hamelmann in 1564, the Externsteine are identified as a sacred site of the pagan Saxons, and the location of the Irminsul idol reportedly destroyed by Charlemagne; there is however no archaeological evidence that would confirm the site's use during the relevant period. The stones were used as the site of a hermitage in the Middle Ages, and by at least the high medieval period were the site of a Christian chapel. The Externsteine relief is a medieval depiction of the Descent from the Cross. It remains controversial whether the site was already used for Christian worship in the 8th to early 10th centuries.

The Teutoburg Forest / Egge Hills Nature Park (German: Naturpark Teutoburger Wald / Eggegebirge) is a nature park founded in 1965 in the northeast of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. After being expanded in 2008, the nature park is now the largest in Germany, covering an area of 2,700 square kilometres (1,000 sq mi). The park comprise the southern Teutoburg Forest and Egge Hills. The Teutoburg Forest / Egge Hills Nature Park won the state competition for nature parks, "Naturpark.2009.NRW", with its concept "Natural Health" (Natürlich Gesund).

Berlebecke (in its upper course: Wiggenbach) is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Wiembecke in Detmold-Heiligenkirchen.

The Velmerstot is the northernmost and highest hill in the Eggegebirge ridge in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It has two summits, the Prussian Velmerstot (Preußische Velmerstot) (468 m), which lies on the territory of Steinheim-Sandebeck in the county of Höxter, and the Lippe Velmerstot (Lippische Velmerstot) (51°50′26″N 8°37′16″E, 441 m), which is located in the county of Lippe. The whole hill is part of the Teutoburg Forest / Egge Hills Nature Park. During the Cold War, the hill had a NATO and Dutch air defence installations; they left by 1994 and the installations were torn down in 2002/03.

Wörbke is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The Wörbke is approximately 4 km long, a right tributary of the Werre in the Lippe district in Ostwestfalen-Lippe. The source of the river has an elevation of 260 metres and the mouth an elevation of 148 metres.

Horn-Bad Meinberg (German pronunciation: [ˈhɔʁn baːtˈmaɪ̯nˌbɛʁk] ; Low German: Häoern-Möomag ) is a German city in the Lippe district in the north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia on the edge of the Teutoburg forest. The district Bad Meinberg is a spa resort. It has 17,263 inhabitants (2019). It was formed in 1970 by merging various other municipalities that had grown together, including Bad Meinberg and Horn - the new entity's original name was Bad Meinberg-Horn, before taking its present name. Horn-Bad Meinberg is the location of the Externsteine, a rock formation consisting of several tall, narrow columns.

The Detmold Open-air Museum (German: LWL-Freilichtmuseum Detmold – Westfälisches Landesmuseum für Volkskunde; English: "LWL Open-air Museum Detmold – Westphalian State Museum for Folkloristics") is a museum at Detmold in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was founded, together with the Hagen Open-air Museum, in 1960, and was first opened to the public in the early 1970s. The museum is run by the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL, regional authority for Westphalia and Lippe within North Rhine-Westphalia).

The German Youth Hostel Association (German: Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk) or DJH is a not-for-profit, registered association (eingetragener Verein). It was founded in 1919 to create an organized network of affordable and safe accommodation away from home for travelling school and youth groups and individuals all over the country. Today, the 438 youth hostels in the association still cater to school and youth groups but are also open to anyone else looking for an alternative to hotels - families, backpackers, business travellers, etc. Through the state (Bundesland) associations it is the representative of the 438 youth hostels in Germany (as at 2021) and thus the largest member of the international youth association, Hostelling International (HI). The headquarters has its seat in Detmold and is divided into 14 state associations and 178 local and county volunteer associations. It has about 2,38 million members.The German Youth Hostel Association is a member of the European Movement Germany.

Detmolder Sommertheater is a theatre in Detmold, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It opened on 26 July 1896.
