Hinksey Halt railway station

Hinksey Sculling School is a community rowing club on the River Thames for junior rowers. The club is unusual in the fact that it operates from three venues across Oxfordshire, England.

New Hinksey is a suburb in the south of the city of Oxford.

Abingdon Road is the main arterial road to the south of the city of Oxford, England. The road passes through the suburbs of Grandpont and New Hinksey. It is named after the town of Abingdon to the south.

South Hinksey is a village and civil parish just over 1 mile (1.6 km) south of the centre of Oxford. The parish includes the residential area of Hinksey Hill about 0.5 miles (800 m) south of the village. The parish was part of Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire.

Abingdon Road Halt railway station was built by the Great Western Railway to serve South Hinksey, a village near Oxford.

Folly Bridge is a stone bridge over the River Thames carrying the Abingdon Road south from the centre of Oxford, England. It was erected in 1825–27, to designs of a little-known architect, Ebenezer Perry (died 1850), who practised in London.The bridge is in two parts separated by an island. The origin of the name is uncertain although it has been suggested that it originated about 1650 after a tenant of Bacon's study.

University College Boathouse is the boathouse of University College Boat Club (UCBC) on the southern bank of the River Thames (locally known as "The Isis") in Oxford, England. It is owned by University College, Oxford. UCBC's Boathouse has become an iconic and very recognisable architectural statement in and around Oxford. The boathouse is shared with Wolfson, St Peter's and Somerville College boat clubs. The original 19th-century boathouse, designed by John Oldrid Scott, was destroyed through arson in 1999. After eight years, a new boathouse designed by Belsize Architects was completed in 2007 at a cost of £2.7million. The Boathouse was awarded a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) prize, and has enjoyed a very favourable reception in the architectural world. An article describes the structure as not just a boathouse, but "a grandstand of the first order" arguing that it represents a new age in rowing.The Saturday of Eights Week, the main summer rowing event of Oxford University, in 2007 saw the opening of the new boathouse by then-Chairman of the British Olympic Association Colin Moynihan, who had coxed for University College and Oxford University, and won a silver medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The ceremony also marked the dedication of the Coleman Viewing Terrace by Jimmy and Jamie Coleman; it is named due to their gift.

St Peter's College Boat Club (SPCBC) is the rowing club for members of St Peter's College, Oxford. Founded in 1929, it is now based in the University College Boathouse on the southern bank of The Isis (River Thames). The Boat Club competes in Torpids and Summer Eights bumps races in Oxford.

Somerville College Boat Club (SCBC) is the rowing club of Somerville College, Oxford. The club was formed in 1921 as one of the first women's clubs on the Isis, however was unable to compete in bumps until 1969. The women's team has won the title Head of the River eight times in Summer Eights and five times in Torpids, more than any other women's rowing team from the University of Oxford.Due to fears that it might harm their reproductive abilities, women's rowing clubs were banned until 1921. A member of the club was first permitted to take part in Summer Eights in 1927, following the rejection of an earlier request in 1922.Now there are 6 women's divisions in Summer Eights and racing in the top divisions is as competitive as the men's. However, when women were first given their own division, only 12 colleges competed - Somerville, as an all women's college, was one of them. Within four years the W1 were Head of the River.Somerville College Boat Club shares the University College Boathouse with University College, St Peter's College and Wolfson College. The building is owned by University College and won a Royal Institute of British Architects prize and has enjoyed a very favourable reception in the architectural world.

St Catherine's College Boat Club (SCCBC) is the rowing club of St Catherine's College, Oxford. Established in 1875 as St. Catharine's Boat Club, the club first took part in Torpids and Summer Eights in 1876. Notable people associated with the club include British Olympic gold medallists Matthew Pinsent and Andrew Triggs Hodge and silver medallist Colin Smith.

Templeton College was one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford, England. It was an all-graduate college, concentrating on the recruitment of students in business and management studies. In 2008, the college merged with Green College, Oxford to form Green Templeton College, based on the existing Green College site.

"The Isis" ( EYE-siss) is an alternative name for the River Thames, used from its source in the Cotswolds until it is joined by the Thame at Dorchester in Oxfordshire. It derives from the ancient name for the Thames, Tamesis, which in the Middle Ages was believed to be a combination of "Thame" and "Isis". Notably, the Isis flows through the city of Oxford.
