West Las Vegas

The Lakes is a 2-square-mile (5.2 km2) planned community located within the city limits of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is located in the western part of the Las Vegas Valley near the Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The centerpiece of the community, and its namesake, is a large man-made lake, Lake Sahara. It was originally planned to have two man-made lakes but was downscoped to one. It was built from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, and at the time was at the edge of development in the valley. It consists of a mixture of gated communities consisting of single-family homes, condominia, commercial areas and offices.

Canyon Gate Country Club is a golf club to the west of Las Vegas, Nevada. The 6742 yard course was established in 1989, and was designed by Ted Robinson. It hosted the Las Vegas LPGA in 1993. The club also has amenities for tennis, swimming and fitness. The men's card room and bar were designed by Chris Consultants.

Desert Breeze Park located in Spring Valley, Nevada, is one of the largest parks in the Clark County park system. The regional park is a 240-acre (97 ha) facility that is not fully developed.

Nevada's 8th Senate district is one of 21 districts in the Nevada Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Marilyn Dondero Loop since 2018, succeeding Republican-turned-independent Patricia Farley.

The Las Vegas Art Museum was an art museum in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was formerly located in a building shared with the Sahara West Library branch of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District in Las Vegas, NV. The museum closed in 2009. The Las Vegas Art Museum was "dedicated to engaging visitors in the international culture of contemporary art." The museum provided the public with publications, lectures, educational and outreach programs. It also developed a significant permanent collection of contemporary art.

One Queensridge Place is the name given to two residential skyscrapers located on the west side of the Las Vegas Valley in the Queensridge neighborhood adjacent to the master planned community of Summerlin, Nevada. Construction began in 2005 and concluded in 2007. The buildings are twins, measuring approximately 233.5 feet (71.2 m) high. Each tower has 20 constructed floors with curtain wall facades and distinctive architecture. The resulting large windows allow for views of the Las Vegas Strip and Red Rock Canyon.

Tivoli Village is a mixed-use development center consisting of retail and office space, located on 28.43 acres (11.51 ha) at 410 South Rampart Boulevard in Las Vegas, Nevada, next to the Summerlin community. It is owned by 3D Investments. The project was announced in May 2005, as The Village at Queensridge. Work began on the project in 2006, but its opening was delayed numerous times because of poor economic conditions, which prompted the decision to develop the property in phases. The first phase opened on April 28, 2011. Work on a second phase had begun by May 2010, with an opening initially planned for 2012, although this was delayed several times. It eventually opened on October 28, 2016. Additional phases have been considered since 2010, with possible amenities including condominiums and a small hotel.

Spring Valley High School is located in the Spring Valley community in unincorporated Clark County, Nevada, United States. The school, serving grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Clark County School District. The school's mascot is a grizzly bear. The school's curriculum offers 8 Career/Technical Education Programs and an International Baccalaureate Diploma. Their sports rivals are Durango High School, Sierra Vista High School, and Bonanza High School. The principal/ IB Head of School, Tara Powell, was appointed in June of 2021.

Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School is a private Christian college-preparatory school located in Summerlin, Nevada. The school, which was founded in 1979, serves grades 6-12 and is affiliated with the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. The school is the largest non-public school in Nevada, with over 2,000 students.

Suncoast is a hotel and casino located at 9090 Alta Drive in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is owned and operated by Boyd Gaming. The hotel, located on a 50-acre (20 ha) site, contains 432 rooms and has a 95,898-square-foot (8,909.2 m2) casino, as well as a movie theater, bowling alley and convention space. Construction began in July 1999, and the project opened on September 12, 2000. The 10-story hotel building opened with 203 rooms on one half, while the other half remained unfinished with the potential to be filled in if needed. Because of high room occupancy rates, the other half was finished in an $11 million expansion that took place during 2001.

On October 26, 2016, Sydney Land and her boyfriend Nehemiah Kauffman were shot and killed in her apartment in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their bodies were found the next day. Initially, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (also known as Metro) announced that they had no motive and no suspects in the case. Land's mother, Connie Land, asserted that Sydney had possibly been targeted for prostitution grooming by pimps. A local judge, Melanie Andress-Tobiasson, befriended Connie Land over shared concerns about sex trafficking in Las Vegas, but later the two friends had a falling out. Andress-Tobiasson had compelled Connie to hand over confidential text messages between her and a Metro homicide detective who had been working the case. Connie was found dead in August 2022, and Andress-Tobiasson was found dead in February 2023 of gunshot wounds. The Clark County Coroner's Office ruled Andress-Tobiasson's death a suicide. Although a number of people allegedly involved in local sex trafficking were declared either persons of interest or suspects in the case, as of January 2023 no arrests had been made in the killings of Land and Kauffman.

JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort and Spa is a resort in Summerlin, Nevada, near Las Vegas. The Rampart Casino is located within the hotel. The property is owned and operated by Hotspur Resorts, which franchises the JW Marriott name from Marriott International. The hotel has 548 rooms and the casino measures 57,610 square feet (5,352 m2). The project was announced in 1996, as The Resort at Summerlin. It was developed by Seven Circle Resorts, and the hotel portion was initially operated under a franchise from Regent International Hotels. The opening was originally scheduled for 1998, but the project saw several delays and cost overruns. It was designed by Paul Steelman and built by J.A. Jones Construction at a final cost of $276 million. The Resort at Summerlin opened on July 15, 1999, with a casino and a hotel tower known as the Regent Grand Spa. A second tower, the Regent Grand Palm, opened in January 2000. Within a month, the entire property was renamed The Regent Las Vegas. The resort experienced financial trouble and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2000. Hotspur purchased the resort a year later and rebranded the hotel under the JW Marriott name. In 2002, the casino portion was renamed as the Rampart Casino by Millennium Management Group, which signed a 10-year lease. Hotspur took over management after the lease expired.
