The Atlantic (Atlanta)

Atlantic Station is a neighborhood on the northwestern edge of Midtown Atlanta, Georgia, United States comprising a retail district, office space, condominiums, townhomes and apartment buildings. First planned in the mid-1990s and officially opened in 2005, the neighborhood's 138 acres (558,000 m2) are located on the former brownfield site of the Atlantic Steel mill.

The Atlantic Steel Company was a steel company in Atlanta, Georgia with a large steel mill on the site of today's Atlantic Station multi-use complex. Atlantic Steel's history dated back to 1901 when it was founded as the Atlanta Hoop Company, with 120 employees, and which produced cotton bale ties and barrel hoops. It became the Atlanta Steel Company, and then in December 1915, the Atlantic Steel Company.From 1908-1922 Thomas K. Glenn was the company's president. A replica of his office exists at the Millennium Gate museum in Atlantic Station. By 1952, the plant had 2,100 employees and was producing not only hoops and ties, but also "poultry and field fence, barbed wire, angles, round bars, channels, tees, handrail, reinforcing bars, nails, rivets, welding rods, shackles, [forgings] and fence posts".The plant's "deep-throated" steam whistle was named "Mr. Tom", after Tom Glenn, an early president of the company.In 1979, the Ivaco company of Montreal, Quebec, Canada acquired Atlantic Steel. Operations were partially shut down in the 1980s as competition from home and abroad intensified. In 1997, of the 1,400 employees in 1979, there were only 400 remaining. In 1998, Jacoby Development purchased the complex for about 76 million USD, tore down the complex, cleaned up the site and built Atlantic Station in its place.

The National Monuments Foundation is a non-profit organization that builds monuments, including the World Athletes Monument and the Millennium Gate.

The Millennium Gate Museum (also known as The Gate) is a triumphal arch and Georgia history museum located in Atlanta, on 17th Street in the Atlantic Station district of Midtown. The monument celebrates peaceful accomplishment.

171 17th Street is a skyscraper located in the Midtown district of Atlanta, Georgia, United States, within the Atlantic Station mixed-use development. It has 22 stories of office space and was completed in 2004, when it was called the Southtrust Tower. 171 17th Street was the first skyscraper in Atlanta west of the Downtown Connector and north of 14th Street.

Glenn Field is the former home field for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fast pitch softball team located in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia. Glenn Field was built in 1987 and has a capacity of 500 spectators. Glenn Field is one of the two Tech sports facilities off campus being located adjacent to Atlantic Station. The field dimensions are 190 feet to left and right fields and 220 feet to center field. Tech holds a 247-153-2 record at home (.614 winning percentage). The current field is Shirley C. Mewborn field.

Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) is a state network of PBS member television stations and NPR member radio stations serving the U.S. state of Georgia. It is operated by the Georgia Public Telecommunications Commission, an agency of the Georgia state government which holds the licenses for most of the PBS and NPR member stations licensed in the state. The broadcast signals of the nine television stations and 19 radio stations cover almost all of the state, as well as parts of Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The network's headquarters and primary radio and television production facilities are located on 14th Street in Midtown Atlanta, just west of the Downtown Connector in the Home Park neighborhood. The facility and GPB are also a major part of Georgia's film and television industry, and in addition to commercial production occurring at the GPB facilities, some production companies also rent production offices from GPB.

Home Park is a neighborhood of Atlanta in Georgia, US. It is bordered on the south by Georgia Tech, on the west by the railroad yards adjacent to Marietta Street and Brady Avenue, on the north by 16th Street at Atlantic Station, and on the east by Techwood Drive at I-75/85 (the Downtown Connector). The neighborhood is known as West Midtown Atlanta since it lies on the west side of the Downtown Connector. The residential district is bordered by Northside Drive, Techwood Drive, 10th Street, and 16th Street. This section is also home to the media organizations CBS Atlanta WGCL-TV, Georgia Public Broadcasting and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. The commercial district is west of Northside Drive over to Marietta Street and Brady Avenue. It has retail and services, design firms, art galleries, restaurants and an expanding residential section along Howell Mill Road.

"Loring Heights" can also refer to the Stevens Square/Loring Heights neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota.Loring Heights is a neighborhood of just over 300 homes located in south Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta, nestled between Peachtree Street, on the east, Northside Drive on the west, and Atlantic Station to the south. Like most of Buckhead, Loring Heights is part of City Council District 8 and is currently represented by Mary Norwood. The neighborhood provides relatively easy access to I-75/85, GA 400, and I-285. The neighborhood is part of NPU E, which includes: Ansley Park Ardmore Atlantic Station Brookwood Brookwood Hills Georgia Tech Home Park Loring Heights Marietta Street Artery Midtown Sherwood ForestThe neighborhood is composed of bungalows from the 1940s and new construction infills. The school system includes E. Rivers Elementary, Sutton Middle, and North Atlanta High Schools. The Loring Heights subdivision was developed by Edgar H. Sims, Sr. an Atlanta builder and developer, who also developed Collier Hills and a number of other subdivisions in the Atlanta area during the 1930s and 1940s. The homes were marketed by Sharp Boylston Company.

The Center for Puppetry Arts, located in Atlanta, is the United States' largest organization dedicated to the art form of puppetry. The center focuses on three areas: performance, education and museum. It is one of the few puppet museums in the world. The center is located in Midtown, the city's arts district. It was founded in 1978 by Vincent Anthony.

The Ted Turner Campus, formerly known as the Turner Broadcasting Techwood Campus and also referred to as the Techwood Campus, is a television production complex located in Atlanta, Georgia next to the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology. The complex houses production and broadcasting facilities for TNT, TBS, CNN, TruTV, Turner Classic Movies, and Cartoon Network and was the headquarters for Turner Broadcasting System.

The Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta Bees (or SCAD Atlanta Bees) are the athletic teams that represent the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD Atlanta), located in Atlanta, Georgia, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) since the 2012–13 academic year; after spending two seasons as an NAIA Independent within the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) from 2010–11 (when the school began intercollegiate athletics and joined the NAIA) to 2011–12. As a college of Art and Design, the school offers a sports lineup unlike most colleges. It is one of the few colleges in the United States to offer a competitive equestrian program, which is offered on the Savannah campus, as a SCAD Savannah Bees athletic team. and is unlikely to ever compete in some of the typical college sports, such as basketball or football.
