Cheap Street, Bath

The Corridor is one of the world's earliest retail arcades, designed by architect Henry Goodridge and built in 1825, in Bath, Somerset, England. The fashion for arranging shops in arcades arose in Paris in the late 18th Century. The Corridor followed the trend set by London's Burlington Arcade. The Grade II listed arcade has a glass roof. The High Street end has a Doric colonnade. Each end has marble columns.A musicians gallery, with a wrought iron balustrade and gilt lions heads and garlands, is in the centre of the arcade.Number 7 was the photographic studio of William Friese-Greene.

Upper Borough Walls is a historic street in Bath, Somerset, England. Many of the structures are listed buildings. It takes its name from the section of the medieval wall of the city which still remains.The Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases was founded in 1738 as The Mineral Water Hospital, and is still known locally as The Min. Then, it provided care for the impoverished sick who were attracted to Bath because of the supposed healing properties of the mineral water from the spa. The original building was designed by John Wood the Elder and built with Bath stone donated by Ralph Allen. It was later enlarged, firstly in 1793 by the addition of an attic storey and later in 1860 by a second building erected on the west side of the earlier edifice. It is a Grade II listed building. There is a fine pediment, in Bath stone, on the 1860 building depicting the parable of the good Samaritan. Number 10 was built between 1800 and 1820, when numbers 11 and 12 were built. Number 11 had a new shop front around 1900. The Full Moon Hotel is slightly earlier having been built between 1780 and 1800.Numbers 18 and 18A, on the corner of Trim Street were built between 1730 and 1750. Broadleys Vaults Public House and Gascoyne House also make up a listed building.

The Old Green Tree is a public house on Green Street in Bath, Somerset, England. Grade II listed, the building dates to the 1716, and was extended to the rear in 1926. A beam across the ceiling in the main bar denotes the original back wall of the original building. It was refurbished by local architect W. A. Williams. In June 1716, milliner John Cornish purchased part of a former bowling green in his construction of Green Street. The interior doors each bear numbers which were used to identify the rooms for licensing purposes: the lounge is "1", the front bar is "2", the smoke room is "3" and the cellar door is "4". The pub was a free house until 1928, when Lamb Brewery became the landlord. The pub's Green Tree Bitter is brewed locally by Blindman's Brewery. The leasehold and freehold owner is Wellington. The pub was named UK City Pub of the Year by The Good Pub Guide in 2005 and 2008. The Daily Telegraph named it Somerset's Pub of the Year for 2024. Tim Bethune took over the lease in 2014.

The Bath Gorgon is a ruined pediment from the Temple of Sulis Minerva, in the Roman Baths in Bath in Somerset, England. The pediment features a Gorgon (or water god)'s head. The figure has been identified as Oceanus, and is sometimes referred to as The Green Man, a Celtic mythological figure. It was likely carved in the first century CE, by craftsmen from northern Gaul. It was discovered by archaeologists in 1790.

The Grand Pump Room is a historic building in the Abbey Churchyard, Bath, Somerset, England. It is adjacent to the Roman Baths and is named for water that is pumped into the room from the baths' hot springs. Visitors can drink the water or have other refreshments while there. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building since 1950. Along with the Lower Assembly Rooms, it formed a complex where social activity was centred, and where visitors to the city gathered.

1 Broad Street is a historic building in Bath, Somerset, England. Standing at 1 Broad Street, at Broad Street's junction with Green Street, the building was completed in the late 18th century. It is now Grade II listed. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a roof covered in Welsh slate. The building was formerly two houses (with 9 Green Street), but was converted to a public house with accommodation on the first and second floors. Between 1962 and 2003, the building was The Oliver Inn, named for 18th-century Bath physician Dr William Oliver. A plaque above the door commemorates Oliver. After a major renovation, it reopened as St Christopher's Inn. It became today's restaurant, Belushi's, a few years later.

The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, commonly known as Bath Abbey, is a parish church of the Church of England and former Benedictine monastery in Bath, Somerset, England. Founded in the 7th century, it was reorganised in the 10th century and rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries; major restoration work was carried out by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 1860s. It is one of the largest examples of Perpendicular Gothic architecture in the West Country. The medieval abbey church served as a sometime cathedral of a bishop. After long contention between churchmen in Bath and Wells the seat of the Diocese of Bath and Wells was later consolidated at Wells Cathedral. The Benedictine community was dissolved in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.The church architecture is cruciform in plan and can seat up to 1,200 patrons. An active place of worship, it also hosts civic ceremonies, concerts and lectures. There is a heritage museum in the cellars. The abbey is a Grade I listed building, particularly noted for its fan vaulting. It contains war memorials for the local population and monuments to several notable people, in the form of wall and floor plaques and commemorative stained glass. The church has two organs and a peal of ten bells. The west front includes sculptures of angels climbing to heaven on two stone ladders, representing Jacob's Ladder.

The Roman Baths are well-preserved thermae in the city of Bath, Somerset, England. A temple was constructed on the site between 60 and 70 AD in the first few decades of Roman Britain. Its presence led to the development of the small Roman urban settlement known as Aquae Sulis around the site. The Roman baths—designed for public bathing—were used until the end of Roman rule in Britain in the 5th century AD. According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, the original Roman baths were in ruins a century later. The area around the natural springs was redeveloped several times during the Early and Late Middle Ages. The Roman Baths are preserved in four main features: the Sacred Spring, the Roman Temple, the Roman Bath House, and a museum which holds artefacts from Aquae Sulis. However, all buildings at street level date from the 19th century. It is a major tourist attraction in the UK, and together with the Grand Pump Room, receives more than 1.3 million visitors annually. Visitors can tour the baths and museum but cannot enter the water.

The City of Bath Technical School in Bath, Somerset, England had various roles from the late 19th century until 1970. It obtained its official name when technical schools were formally introduced in Bath between the years 1892 and 1896, and at first was housed in a new extension of the Guildhall. The school was transformed in the early 20th century, when it was combined with several other institutions, and then evolved through various sites and roles until its closure at Brougham Hayes, Lower Oldfield Park in 1973 after being renamed in 1971 as Culverhay School.

The Victoria Art Gallery is a public art museum in Bath, Somerset, England. It was opened in 1900 to commemorate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. It is a Grade II* listed building and houses over 1,500 objects of art including a collection of oil paintings from British artists dating from 1700 onwards. The ground floor was at one time a public library.
