Gulf City, Florida

The Little Manatee River flows 51 miles (82 km), from east of Fort Lonesome, Florida South of Hwy 674 and Earl Reynolds Rd In Hillsborough County through southern Hillsborough County, Florida including towns such as Sun City, Florida, and Gulf City, Florida and northern Manatee County, Florida into Tampa Bay. It has a drainage basin of 222 square miles (570 km2). It flows along the Little Manatee River State Park for part of its route. Portions of the river Such as Hayes Bayou and Mills Bayou have been designated as an Outstanding Florida Water and are part of the Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve.

The A. M. Lamb House is a historic building in Ruskin, Florida, United States. It is located at 2410 West Shell Point Road. On October 12, 2007, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.The house was built in 1910 in Palmetto, and was the home of vice-president of the Manatee County State Bank Mississippi banker Asa Lamb and his family.In September 2007, as part of an arrangement with Manatee County to preserve it, the house was moved by boat across the Tampa Bay from Palmetto to Ruskin.

The A. P. Dickman House, also known as the Ruskin House Bed and Breakfast, is a historic home in Ruskin, Florida built in 1911. It is located at 120 Dickman Drive, Southeast. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.The house combines elements of Colonial Revival and Queen Anne architecture.The bed and breakfast business has reportedly been closed.

The George McA. Miller House (also known as the Ruskin Women's Club) is a historic home in Ruskin, Florida. It is located at 508 Tamiami Trail. It was built in early 1900s as the residence of George McAnelly Miller, president of Ruskin College and his wife Addie Dickman Miller, the college's vice-president. It currently houses the Ruskin Woman's Club.On July 23, 1974, it was added to the US National Register of Historic Places.

Ruskin is an unincorporated census-designated place in Hillsborough County, Florida. The area was part of the chiefdom of the Uzita at the time of the Hernando de Soto expedition in 1539. The community was founded August 7, 1908, on the shores of the Little Manatee River. It was developed by Dr. George McAnelly Miller, an attorney and professor at Ruskin College in Trenton, Missouri, and Addie Dickman Miller. It is named after the essayist and social critic John Ruskin. Miller established the short-lived Ruskin College. It was one of the Ruskin Colleges.

Sun City is an unincorporated community in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The community is located along U.S. Route 41, 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Ruskin. Sun City has a post office with ZIP code 33586.Sun City was built in 1925 and originally promoted as "Florida's Moving Picture City", with streets named after notable film actors (ex. Blythe, Chaplin, Petrova) and a $300,000 movie studio. However, the housing bubble burst, and the studio was demolished in 1932.

Wolf Branch Nature Preserve is a 1,400-acre (570 ha) nature preserve in Hillsborough County, Florida. The preserve is managed by Hillsborough County's Conservation and Environmental Lands Management Department [2] Hillsborough County Conservation and Environmental Lands Management Department. It offers fishing and 2 miles (3.2 km) of hiking trails in areas of natural mangrove shoreline, upland cabbage palm hammocks, offshore sea grass beds in Tampa Bay, and tidally-influenced Wolf Branch Creek.High tides reverse the course of the creek and move juvenile mullet, snook and reds. Roseate spoonbills, reddish egrets, wood storks, and at least one bobcat call the preserve home.The distressed area was purchased by the county in 1993 for $1.8 million. Historically it was used for pasture and cropland. Restoration projects took place on the property starting with eradicating exotic vegetation, then sculpting both isolated and interconnected wetlands to attract fisheries and other wildlife.

Curiosity Creek is a fresh waterway running through parts of residential and commercial Hillsborough County, Florida. The creek begins in woodlands by the neighborhood of Lake Magdalene, and runs north to Woodbriar Village. It is approximately 3.5 miles in length and ranges from two to ten feet in width. Its depth is approximately one foot. The creek forks three times and fills up once in a pond near Lake Gass, Tampa. Although running through private property, Curiosity Creek is considered to be a public waterway by the city of Tampa.

Earl J. Lennard High School is a public high school located in Ruskin, Florida. It opened in 2006, mainly for the purpose to relieve overcrowding at East Bay High School in Gibsonton, Florida. It is named after former Hillsborough County Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Earl J. Lennard.

Cockroach Key (also known as the Indian Hill, Indian Key, and Cockroach Key) is a historic site near Ruskin, Florida, United States. It is located south of the Little Manatee River, roughly three miles west of Sun City. On December 4, 1973, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve is a protected area that includes 4,800 acres of partially submerged lands in Hillsborough County near Ruskin, Florida south of Tampa, Florida. Archaeological evidence from indigenous tribes has been found in the area. The coastal uplands, freshwater wetlands and estuarine habitats provide sanctuary for young fish including red drum and snook as well as numerous birds, crustaceans and other species. Aquatic habitats include seagrass and oyster beds.The area was farmland and mining pits before a 21-year restoration that included approximately 2,500 volunteers, environmental groups, and government agencies. The area was dedicated in 2012. It includes 651 acres and has hosted at least 300 species of bird. The preserve's street address is at 3709 Gulf City Road in Ruskin, Florida.Cockroach Bay has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names.
