Kelly, Devon

Kelly House is a Grade I listed country house and estate located in the village of Kelly, in Devon, England. The estate has been the property of the Kelly family since approximately 1100. Parts of the original medieval house and great hall are still standing, though they are obscured from view, as this part of the house was significantly remodelled in the Tudor architectural style. In 1742 the west wing of the building was constructed in the Georgian architectural style and surrounded by parkland. The most recent north wing of Kelly House was built in 1877. During the twentieth century parts of the estate were sold off, and the house fell into disrepair.A description of life in the house and village during the first world war was written as a diary by Margaret Kelly, the lady of the house at the time. It includes details of the running of the house. After the war Mary Kelly founded the Village Drama Society, which was based at Kelly House from 1919 until about 1925. Kelly House continues to be inhabited by members of the Kelly family while opening some rooms for bed and breakfast basis.The house was added to the Heritage at Risk Register due to concerns particularly about the leaking roof. Parts of the house have been restored, with students from Kelly College assisting with the works. These parts of the house are open to the public through guided tours, and since 2013 the house has offered three bedrooms as bed & breakfast accommodation.In April 2010, Kelly House was the subject of a Channel 4 television programme presented by hotelier Ruth Watson as part of her Country House Rescue series.

The Church of St Nonna is a redundant church in Bradstone, Devon, England that was built in the 12th century. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It was vested in the Trust on 12 November 1996. The church is named after Saint Nonna. The church has an arcaded north aisle. The west tower was added in the 15th century. The tracery in the south wall of the chancel is believed to date from 1261 when the church was dedicated by Bishop Walter Branscombe.Outside the tower is a stone dedicated to John Coumbe, said to have lived from 1484 to 1604 - outliving the entire Tudor dynasty.

Milton Abbot is a village, parish, and former manor in Devon, 6 miles (9.7 km) north-west of Tavistock, Devon, and 6 miles (9.7 km) south-east of Launceston, Cornwall.

Endsleigh Cottage (now "Endsleigh House") is a country house near Milton Abbot, about 6 miles NW of Tavistock, Devon in England. It is a Grade I listed building. The gardens are Grade I listed in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The house was built in the early 19th century for the Duke of Bedford. Today, it is a hotel.

The River Thrushel is a river in Devon, England. The Thrushel runs westerly from its source near Meldon to Tinhay, where it joins the River Wolf. The river is marked as Tinhay River on Donn's map of 1765.[1]

Dunterton is a civil parish and small village in the Tavistock district in the county of Devon, England. The parish was mentioned in the Domesday Book, valued at 2 pounds and containing 18 households. In 1872 it had a population of 181.

Castle Head is a British Iron Age Hill fort occupying a commanding position on a promontory at the neck of a bow in the River Tamar on the Devon side close to Dunterton. The fort is situated approximately 100 metres above sea level, there is another earthwork due South lower on the promontory at approx 50 metres above sea level, and others on the Cornwall side of the river.

Lifton is a village and civil parish in Devon, South West England near the confluence of the rivers Wolf and Lyd, 1¼ miles south of the A30 trunk road and very near the border between Devon and Cornwall. The village is part of the electoral ward of Thrushel. The population of the surrounding Thrushel ward (which includes the village of Thrushelton to the east of Lifton) at the 2011 census was 1680.

The Lyd is a river rising at Lyd Head (Corn Ridge in NW Dartmoor) in the Dartmoor national park in Devon in South West England and flowing into the River Tamar beyond Lifton. It runs through Lydford Gorge, the deepest gorge in South West England.

The River Inny (Cornish: Dowr Enni) is a small river in east Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is a tributary of the River Tamar and is about twenty miles (32 km) long from its source near Davidstow on the eastern flank of Bodmin Moor to its confluence with the Tamar at Inny Foot near Dunterton.The River Inny's catchment is 108 square kilometres. Penpont Water is the main tributary and joins the Inny at Two Bridges.The course of the River Inny is initially east-southeast. From Two Bridges it runs southeast before running due east for the last few miles to its confluence with the Tamar. The River Inny supports trout, grayling, sea trout and salmon populations. Other wildlife species include the otter, kingfisher, sand martin, dipper, curlew and snipe.

The River Wolf is a minor river in the west of the county of Devon in England. Its name may come from a Celtic or earlier name recorded by the Roman map-maker Ptolemy (Ptolemy II 3 13) as Ουολιβα (Voliba) as a town of the Dumnonii (it may be Broadbury Castle); rather than referring to the wolf animal. The river runs from Broadbury through the valley below Germansweek and empties into Roadford Lake, a man-made reservoir built in 1989. In July 2006 some 100 million litres of water were released from the lake to help the survival of salmon in the river during a prolonged period of drought.After Roadford Lake the river continues through Slew Woods below the village of Broadwoodwidger. It then continues in a southerly direction eventually merging with the River Thrushel just north of Tinhay and then joins the River Lyd at Lifton. The River Lyd eventually joins the River Tamar at the Devon/Cornwall border just east of Launceston. The United Kingdom's environmental organisation Natural England currently runs a grant scheme called Catchment-sensitive farming. The River Wolf is included within one of the priority catchments targeted in this scheme
