De Ouderkerkermolen, Aldtsjerk

Aldtsjerk (Dutch: Oudkerk) is a village on the main road from Leeuwarden to Dokkum. It is part of Tytsjerksteradiel municipality, Friesland, the Netherlands and had around 615 inhabitants as of January 2018.Its annual festivities include the Doarpsfeest, including a parade, held in the summer. Local landmarks include the Heemstra State, former residence of the aristocratic Sminia family. The village's main road, the van Sminiaweg is about 1.5 km long and named after the Sminia family. The village also houses a former baker who was quite famous for his Oranjekoek and Suikerbrood, but who retired in 2000 when the euro was introduced. Local shopping facilities are scarce: the nearest grocery market is located in Oentsjerk, about three kilometers outside town limits. The most notable shop of the town is a bike dealership and a store called Bram en Jannie's, which stands not actually in the village itself, but halfway between Aldtjserk and Oentsjerk. In the center of the village is located the Aldtsjerk church, which was built in 12th century and gives the village its name ("Old Church"). Near the village is the Aldtsjerkster mar, a small lake which is an important point on the Elfstedentocht. In Dutch, the village is called Oudkerk ("Old Church"); Aldtsjerk is its West Frisian name. It was one of the first Frisian towns to be generally listed under its West Frisian, rather than its Dutch name. The Ouderkerkermolen is a preserved windmill in Aldtsjerk.

It is a mid 12th century Romanesque church with a triple closed choir built out of brick covered with tuffstone, located on the Van Sminiawei 29. The tower dates from the 13th century and is like the church build out of brick covered with tuffstone. The church was once a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Paul but became a Protestant church after the Protestant reformation. Over time the tower and church were several times changed/converted. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 35669.

The church was built c. 1230 out of red brick and has a tower from the 14th century. On the West gallery is a monumental Pipe organ, built in 1871 by P. van Oeckelen The church was originally a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Mary but became a Protestant church after the Protestant Reformation. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 35658. The building is located on the Wijnserdijk 9.

The Protestant church of Gytsjerk or Saint Martin's church is a religious building in Gytsjerk, Netherlands, one of the numerous medieval churches in Friesland. It is a late 12th century Romanesque church with a 19th-century facade. Over time the church was several times changed/converted but the North wall, South wall and choir show still beautiful signs of the Romanesque tuffstone church. The church is located on the Canterlandseweg 63 and was once a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Martin but became a Protestant church after the protestant reformation. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 35654 and is rated with a very high historical value.

Oentsjerk (Dutch: Oenkerk) is a village in Tytsjerksteradiel in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,784 in January 2017. Oentsjerk is known for its agricultural practical training centre and large elderly care facility, the two largest employers of the town.

Gytsjerksterhoek (Dutch: Giekerkerhoek) is a hamlet in Tytsjerksteradiel in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. Gytsjerksterhoeke is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Gytsjerk. It does not have place name signs. The name was first used around 1960. It consists of about 20 houses, and if the west side is included about 30 houses.The hamlet is centred around the St Martin Church which is located outside of the village of Gytsjerk and dates from around 1100. The main settlement moved to the east leaving a tiny hamlet around the church. There is a still a little so-called woudhuisje (wood house) in the hamlet. These were tiny self build houses most of which have disappeared.

Burdaard is a village in Noardeast-Fryslân in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 1,173 in January 2017. Before 2019, the village was part of the Ferwerderadiel municipality. It is situated south of Jislum, southeast of Wânswert, and northwest of Aldtsjerk. The Dokkumer Ee canal, connecting Dokkum and Leeuwarden, runs straight through the village centre. Annually, more than ten thousand ships and boats pass through Burdaard. The village is one of the few settlements which is visited twice by ice skaters in the Elfstedentocht.
