Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 6231 was the fatal crash of a Boeing 727 in the eastern United States on December 1, 1974 in Harriman State Park near Stony Point, New York, just north of the New York City area. The Northwest Airlines 727 had been chartered to pick up the Baltimore Colts professional football team in Buffalo in western New York.All three crew members on board died when the aircraft struck the ground following a stall and rapid descent caused by the crew's reaction to erroneous airspeed readings caused by atmospheric icing. The icing occurred due to failure to turn on the pitot tube heating at the start of the flight. This was one of two Boeing 727s to crash in the eastern U.S. that day; the other was TWA Flight 514 in northern Virginia, northwest of Dulles airport (250 miles (400 km) to the southwest).

Sandyfield was a settlement of about 30 houses in the Town of Ramapo in Rockland County, New York, United States, that was submerged in 1928 when swampy Beaver Pond was dammed to create Lake Welch in Harriman State Park.

At 47,527 acres (192.33 km2), Harriman State Park is the second largest state park in New York State. Located in Rockland and Orange counties 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City, it is a haven for hikers with over 200 miles (320 km) of hiking trails. The park is also known for its 31 lakes, multiple streams, public camping area, and great vistas. The park's hiking trails are currently maintained by volunteers from the New York - New Jersey Trail Conference. On its northeastern edge, Harriman State Park borders the 5,000-acre (20 km2) Bear Mountain State Park as well as the United States Military Academy's 16,000-acre (65 km2) forest reserve. To the southwest, it partly borders the state-owned 18,000-acre (73 km2) Sterling Forest reserve. These areas, together with the state's Storm King forest reserve of 1,900 acres (7.7 km2), amount to contiguous protected forests that are substantially larger than Harriman alone.

Jackie Jones Mountain is a 1,253-foot-tall (382 m) mountain in the state of New York. It is located west of Stony Point in Rockland County. In 1928, a 60-foot-tall (18 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1988 fire lookout season, and was officially closed in early 1989. The tower is listed on the National Historic Lookout Register, and is open to the public.

Lake Kanawauke is a primarily man-made lake in Harriman State Park. The name is Onondaga in origin, and means "place of much water". There are three parts to the lake, lower, middle and upper; the total area is 186 acres (0.75 km2). It is located in the Town of Tuxedo in Orange County and the Town of Haverstraw in Rockland County, both residing within the state of New York.

Lake Tiorati is one of the seven main lakes in Harriman State Park, located in Orange County, New York. It is a man-made lake, created by dredging swampland and constructing a concrete dam. The name Tiorati means "Blue like Sky". Its name is the Algonquin word for "sky-like".

Ladentown is a hamlet in the Town of Haverstraw, Rockland County, New York, United States, is located in the center of a triangle between Haverstraw, Pomona and Suffern and two miles west of Mount Ivy. It is located north-northwest of New York City.

Ladentown United Methodist Church is a historic United Methodist church on Ladentown Road in the Village of Pomona, Rockland County, New York. It was built about 1865 and is a rectangular one story, traditional timber-frame structure above a raised basement. It features a steeply pitched gable roof and an engaged central tower.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

At 310 acres (1.3 km2), Lake Sebago, near Sloatsburg, is the largest lake in Harriman State Park in the U.S. state of New York. The name is Algonquian for "big water". It is located just south of Lake Kanawauke and is accessible via Seven Lakes Drive and the Palisades Interstate Parkway. New Sebago Beach opened in the 1940s but closed in 2011 due to damage from Hurricane Irene, and the picnic areas closed in 2012 due to Hurricane Sandy.

The Seaman–Knapp House is a historic home located at Pomona, New York. It is a 1+1⁄2-story, five bay, frame dwelling, with Greek Revival finishes. The original section of the main block dates to about 1799, that was subsequently enlarged in the mid-19th century to its present form. A rear addition was added in the early-20th century, prior to a renovation in 1937. Also on the property is a small Seaman family burying ground and a stone-lined well with gabled hood. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
