Oakville Refinery (Shell Canada)

Bronte is the community that makes up much of the west end of Oakville, in Ontario, Canada. Twelve Mile Creek (known informally as Bronte Creek) flows through the middle of town and empties into Lake Ontario. Main roads include Bronte Road (north-south), Lakeshore Road West (east-west, parallel to Lake Ontario) and Rebecca Street (east-west). Streets in the business section include Lakeshore, Jones, Marine, and Ontario Street. Bronte is also accessed via a superhighway (the Queen Elizabeth Way) located to the north of the former village. Other main roads include Third Line, Speers Road and Burloak Drive to the west (the latter was named after the boundary of Burlington and Oakville.) Bronte is a former fishing village which became annexed in 1962 with the former Township of Trafalgar, forming the Town of Oakville, along with the other formerly autonomous communities, including Sheridan.

Bronte Creek is a waterway in the Lake Ontario watershed of Ontario Canada. It runs through Hamilton and Halton Region, with its source near Morriston (south of the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 401), passing Bronte Creek Provincial Park, on its way to Lake Ontario at Bronte Harbour in Oakville, where the creek is also known as Twelve Mile Creek. Bronte takes its name from the title of the Duke of Bronté held by Horatio Nelson.Bronte Creek in Ojibwe is "Eshkwesing-ziibi", "Esqui-sink", "Eshkwessing", "ishkwessin", and "Asquasing" ("that which lies at the end").

The Oakville Refinery (also known as Petro Canada Oakville Refinery) was a refinery located on the border of Oakville and Burlington in Ontario, Canada. The refinery was commissioned in 1958 by Cities Service Company. It had an initial capacity 25,000 barrels per day (4,000 m3/d). In 1963, the refinery was acquired by BP. Later it was acquired by Petro-Canada and supplied fuel in Ontario. It closed in 2005, with Petro-Canada (now Suncor Energy) getting supplies for the Ontario market from its Montreal Refinery. The facility once employed 350 people and produced some 90,000 barrels per day (14,000 m3/d). Petro-Canada ascribed the decision to new rules requiring lower sulphur content in gasoline, that would have required an expensive retrofit of the refinery. The relatively small and specialized refinery was also less efficient than the larger ones operated elsewhere. The equipment from the refinery was transported to Pakistan, where it was planned to be re-erected for the Indus Refinery Project. Suncor Energy (formerly Petro-Canada prior to merger in Aug 2009) still operates from the site as a storage terminal. It was the third refinery to close along Lake Ontario; Shell's Oakville refinery was closed in 1983, and Esso's Mississauga, Ontario refinery located further east on Lakeshore Road closed in 1985. Following the closing of the plant, the refinery was due to be dismantled and transported to Pakistan, where it would be reassembled for use there. However, this plan fell through due to investors withdrawing support from the project due to political instability in that country with only 65% of the plant transported to Pakistan. The remaining components were sold off in Canada to pay hauliers and other service-providers.

Robert Bateman High School (also known as Robert Bateman, or Bateman) operated in Burlington, Ontario, Canada from 1970 to 2020. The school was part of the Halton District School Board, and was established as Lord Elgin High School. After a merger with General Brock High School in 2004 it was renamed Robert Bateman High School.

Bronte GO Station is a train station in the GO Transit network located in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. It is a stop on the Lakeshore West line and there is an adjacent bus loop for connecting local Oakville Transit bus routes. In September 2008 the station parking lot was expanded with a new entrance on Wyecroft Road. In January 2011, approximately 175 spaces were made available in the south lot which can be entered from Speers Road. When the project is completed the south lot will provide 300 parking spaces, with stairs and ramps to the platforms.A Bronte Station Master Plan was completed in 2013, with key recommendations to be coordinated with ongoing improvements. This included considering extending the east tunnel to the south side of the tracks to a relocated bus loop or improve existing west tunnel connections to the existing loop and add more bus bays. Improvements already started, and was completed by Spring 2016, which included repaving the south parking lot and the addition of 200 new spaces as well as upgrades to platform canopies and shelters.

Appleby GO Station is a railway station and bus station in the GO Transit network located in the 5000 block of Fairview Street in Burlington, Ontario in Canada near Appleby Line. It is a stop on the Lakeshore West line train service. This station primarily serves residential areas in the eastern part of Burlington with train services on weekdays and weekends. There are connecting Burlington Transit local bus services.Renovations began in the fall of 2014, incorporating repairs to the parking lots, relocation of the south drop-off area, the addition of energy efficient lighting and reconstruction of the south bus loop.

The Oakville Waterfront Festival was an annual festival in Oakville, Ontario from 1992 to 2009, which was revived for one time in 2013. During its run, Oakville Waterfront Festival attracted a diverse audience of as many as 50,000 annually. The festival featured concerts, a community stage, craft show, children's village, theme park, interactive games and more. Over the years, headliners at the concerts have included Hedley, Jann Arden, Tom Cochrane, Jesse Cook, Finger Eleven, Great Big Sea, Alannah Miles, Jully Black, Blue Rodeo, Colin James, Susan Aglukark, Michelle Wright, Jacksoul, Justin Hines, Bedouin Soundclash, The Philosopher Kings, The Johnstones No Warning and Ill Scarlett.

On June 19, 2020, Canadian animal rights activist and protester Regan Russell was run over and killed by an animal transporter after a demonstration outside Sofina Foods Inc. subsidiary Fearman's Pork Inc., a pig slaughterhouse in Burlington, Ontario. The driver of the transporter was subsequently charged with careless driving causing death.

Nelson High School of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, is located in Burlington's South Central area and serves approximately 1392 (2022) students between grades 9 and 12 in the Halton District School Board.

Nelson Stadium is a multi-purpose outdoor sports facility in Burlington, Ontario. The stadium is owned by the Halton District School Board and is operated by Nelson High School. It is located on New Street, Burlington's south-east district. Its capacity is 1,500 and it is the home venue to the Nelson Lords. The facility is primarily used for Canadian football, soccer, and baseball. In 2011, a joint project between Halton District School Board and the City of Burlington was announced which resulted in the stadiums renovation. The renovations included aesthetic improvements, purchase of player benches, improved lighting, and refurbishment of media box. On May 2, 2013, Burlington SC announced the use of Nelson Stadium as their home venue.

Bronte Creek Provincial Park is located in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, and is part of the Ontario Parks system. The 6.4-square-kilometre (2.5 sq mi) park is located at the western edge of Oakville, bordering on Burlington. The park features hiking and biking trails, cross country skiing, and a play barn. During the summer, swimming is available in a large outdoor swimming pool. Camping in the park is permitted, including sites with electrical hookups.Bronte Creek Provincial Park has two separate activity areas (day-use and camping) which must be accessed via two separate entrances. Campground must be accessed via 3201 Upper Middle Road W, Oakville. This is off of Bronte Road, exit 111 off the QEW/ 403. The main day-use area is accessed via 1219 Burloak Drive, Oakville. (exit 109 off the QEW/ 403).

Appleby College, a leading Canadian day and boarding school, is an international independent school (grades 7–12) located in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, founded in 1911 by John Guest, a former Headmaster of the Preparatory School at Upper Canada College. Guest dreamed of establishing a small boarding school in the country, and did so with the support and financial assistance of his father-in-law, Sir Byron Edmund Walker, a Canadian businessman. Today, Appleby is a co-educational day and boarding university-preparatory school, with a curriculum based around the liberal arts. It is situated on Lake Ontario in Oakville, Ontario, roughly 50 kilometres west of Toronto. Students are drawn primarily from Oakville, Burlington and Mississauga, but boarding students come from other parts of Canada and throughout all continents of the world. Appleby is one of two Canadian members of the G30 Schools. It is also a member of the International Round Square Organisation and the Canadian Independent Schools Athletic Association. Appleby is accredited by the Canadian Educational Standards Institute. On October 13, 2006, Maclean's Magazine named Appleby one of Canada's Top 100 Employers. Appleby is the first high school ever to receive this distinction.
