Pacific Fleet station

Chollas Creek is an urban creek in San Diego County, California, United States, that drains to the San Diego Bay. It is also referred to as Las Chollas Creek. Chollas Creek arises in Lemon Grove and La Mesa, where its four branches begin. It empties into the Bay at Barrio Logan. The creek is 30 mi (48 km) long. The creek splits into two main forks and may be dry during the Southern California dry season.: 2–1  Multiple plant, animal, and aquatic wildlife species live in or around the creek, including the rare plants Juncus acutus leopoldii and Iva hayesiana, and the threatened Coastal California gnatcatcher.: 22 The creek has been in existence since before 1500 BC, and it was used by the Kumeyaay, who had a village by the creek.: 9 : 43  By 1841, the Kumeyaay village was no longer present on the creek.: 35  The creek has flooded several times, affecting people living nearby. Portions of the creek have been armored or channelized.: 1  A dam was constructed on a tributary in the early 20th century, forming Chollas Reservoir. The presence of the reservoir led the United States Navy to construct the Chollas Heights Navy Radio Station to the north.The Chollas Creek valley has been described as "one of San Diego's most neglected watersheds." For decades the creek has been plagued by pollution, illegal dumping, and the destruction of natural habitats. It is an "impaired" water body because of high levels of pollutants. In 2002, the City of San Diego began a plan to rehabilitate the creek. In 2021, a plan to make the creek area into a regional park was adopted.

Naval Base San Diego, also known as 32nd Street Naval Station, is the second largest surface ship base of the United States Navy and is located in San Diego, California. Naval Base San Diego is the principal homeport of the Pacific Fleet, consisting of over 50 ships and over 150 tenant commands. The base is composed of 13 piers stretched over 1,600 acres (650 ha) of land and 326 acres (132 ha) of water. The total on base population is over 24,000 military personnel and over 10,000 civilians.

Pacific Reserve Fleet, San Diego was a part of the United States Navy reserve fleets, also called a mothball fleet, was used to store the many surplus ships after World War II. The Pacific Reserve Fleet, San Diego was near the Naval Base San Diego in San Diego, California. Some ships in the fleet were reactivated for the Korean War and Vietnam War. The reserve fleet stored post World War I ships, some that were reactivated for World War II.The USS Galveston (CL-93), a Cleveland-class cruiser was the last ship to depart the Pacific Reserve Fleet, San Diego. At the closing, only the Galveston and 11 other ships were remaining at the fleet. At its peak, 223 ships were stored in the fleet. The 12 rusty ships in fleet were sold off for scrapping and a few used for United States Navy target ships. The Pacific Reserve Fleet, San Diego closed in June 1975.

KURS (1040 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting a Spanish-language Catholic radio format. The station is licensed to San Diego, California and is owned by El Sembrador Ministries. KURS is an affiliate of ESNE Radio. ESNE had been heard for five years in the San Diego area at its former home on KNSN 1240 AM from 2009 to September 29, 2014, when Donald Crawford's Crawford Broadcasting and its licensee Kiertron, Inc. purchased KNSN. Prior to becoming a ESNE Radio station, KURS had broadcast a Gospel Music format. 1040 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A WHO in Des Moines, Iowa, so KURS must restrict its power to 360 watts by day, and 61 watts at night.

KNSN (1240 AM) is a radio station licensed to San Diego, California, United States. The station is owned by Crawford Broadcasting, through licensee Kiertron, Inc. It airs a brokered Christian radio format, mostly simulcast with co-owned KBRT (740 AM) in Costa Mesa. Programs include half-hour weekday shows from Charles Stanley, Joyce Meyer and David Jeremiah. Studios for KBRT and KNSN are on Airway Avenue in Costa Mesa.KNSN transmits with a power of 550 watts, day and night, with its transmitter off Newton Avenue in San Diego, at the intersection of Route 15 and Interstate 5. KNSN shares the tower with KURS (1040 AM). Programming on KNSN is also heard on 15-watt FM translator station K277DG at 103.3 MHz in San Diego.

Harborside is a station on the Blue Line of the San Diego Trolley located in the Logan Heights neighborhood of San Diego. It serves the Logan Heights residential neighborhood as well as a nearby industrial area.

Southcrest is an urban community in the southeastern section of the city of San Diego. It is bordered by Mountain View on the north and east, Interstate 5 and the neighborhoods of Barrio Logan and Logan Heights on the west, and Shelltown on the south. Lynch Shipbuilding was a wooden shipbuilding company in San Diego, California. To support the World War II demand for ships, Lynch Shipbuilding built US Navy rescue tugs and coastal cargo ships. Lynch Shipbuilding yard was started in the 1930s. Lynch was in the lumber business at the time also. In 1952 the yard was sold to Martinolich Shipbuilding Company, as Martinolich Shipbuilding San Diego. Martinolich's main shipyard was in Dockton, Washington. John A. Martinolich died in 1960. Martinolich's sons operated boatyards from 1940s to 1970 in Tacoma and San Diego also. Martinolich sold the San Diego shipyard in 1957 to National Steel and Shipbuilding Company which is at the current site, 1400 South 28th Street, San Diego.

National Steel and Shipbuilding Company, commonly referred to as NASSCO, is an American shipbuilding company with three shipyards located in San Diego, Norfolk and Mayport. It is a division of General Dynamics. The San Diego shipyard specializes in constructing commercial cargo ships and auxiliary vessels for the US Navy and Military Sealift Command; it is the only new-construction shipyard on the West Coast of the United States. The Virginia shipyard primarily performs ship repairs and conversions for the United States Navy.

Memorial is an urban neighborhood in the southeastern area of San Diego, California. It is generally bounded by Imperial Avenue to the north, California State Route 15 to the east, Interstate 5 to the south, and 28th Street to the west. Major thoroughfares in the neighborhood include Commercial Street, Oceanview Boulevard, and National Avenue. The San Diego Trolley runs through the area. Chollas Creek flows through the eastern edge of the neighborhood. Neighboring communities include Logan Heights to the west, Grant Hill and Stockton to the north, Mountain View to the east, and Barrio Logan to the south. Memorial is one of San Diego's oldest neighborhoods, with development beginning around 1850, although few structures from that time remain intact. The neighborhood holds a mix of residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational uses. Memorial Park is located within the boundaries of the neighborhood, which is known for a mural dedicated to peace, with the faces of Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, and Mahatma Gandhi.Memorial is located within San Diego Unified School District, and is home to Memorial Junior High School and Logan Elementary School.

8th Street is a station on the Blue Line of the San Diego Trolley located in National City, California. Surrounded by an industrial area, the primary focus of this station is to serve as a commuter lot, as it is easily accessible from Interstate 5.
