El Tanque

The Church of Santa Ana (Spanish: Iglesia de Santa Ana) is the main church in Garachico, Tenerife. It is located next to the Plaza de la Libertad. Originally constructed around 1520, it was rebuilt after the volcanic eruption of 1706.

Garachico is a municipality and town on the northern coast of Tenerife, about 52 km West of the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 50 km from Tenerife North Airport and 67 km from Tenerife South Airport. The town itself nestles below a 500m+ (1500 ft) cliff. The city of Garachico with its port was founded by the Genoan banker Cristóbal de Ponte after the conquest of Tenerife in 1496. The May 5, 1706 eruption originating from the northwest rift zone was a major event in the town's history. Prior to then, Garachico was an important port exporting Malmsey wine and other local produce. However, a several-week-long eruption poured lava into the old bay and effectively destroyed the town's livelihood. The town itself was partially destroyed. (Contrary to the 'Tourist trade' myth, which will tell you that the town was completely destroyed, except for the church where the townfolk took refuge.)Garachico has always taken care of its environment and protected the most diverse cultural manifestations. For all these reasons, the Spanish government awarded the town the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, which was presented in 1980 by His Majesty the King.[1]

Roque de Garachico is a small island or roque located 300 metres (980 ft) off the north coast of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) belonging to the municipality of Garachico. It stretches 284 metres (932 ft) north-south, and is up to 169 metres (554 ft) wide, with an area of five hectares. It emerges steep out of the sea, with nearly vertical walls of rock in places, and reaches a height of 77 metres (253 ft). The area was protected in 1987.

Los Silos is a municipality and town in the northwestern part of the island Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. It is located on the north coast, 57 km West of the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Its name first appears in 1509, when the agricultural activity of the region made necessary the construction of silos to store cereals. The town located at the heart of the Teno Massif, contains an extremely valuable and interesting wealth of plant and animal life. The leafy laurisilva woodlands are in stark contrast with the plains on the coast, which still hold small areas of cardones and tabaibas, furrowed by steep-sided ravines which are routes bringing together the highlands and the coast. Among the plant formations, the most outstanding is the cardonal–tabaibal which occupies the lower parts of the district, practically from sea level up to areas close to the old coastal cliffs, which separate the sector of the oldest Isla Baja from the Monte Verde, a woodland with great water needs whose existence depends on the additional moisture brought by the sea of clouds which reaches the island on the Trade Winds. The Monte del Agua is, together with the mountains of Anaga, the main representation on the island of Tenerife of the Canarian Monte Verde and is still relatively well-conserved, among other reasons, as a result of the steepness of the terrain, furrowed by a large number of deep ravines and sheltering in its immense mass of forest one of the best populations of the endemic white-tailed laurel pigeon and Bolle's laurel pigeon. For all these reasons, a large part of our municipal territory is included within the Canarian network of Protected Natural Spaces including the Parque Rural de Teno, Site of Special Scientific Interest and the los Acantilados de La Culata Protected Landscape. All of this landscape is criss-crossed by a multitude of footpaths, delimited by dry-stone walls, which past generations for many years created and embellished even cobbling the steepest parts so as to enable animals shod with horseshoes and beasts of burden to obtain a better grip, and now with the passage of time and thanks to the sensitivity of the current inhabitants, these old footpaths have been recovered . The eruption of the Trevejo volcano also called the eruption of the Arenas Negras volcano was a volcanic eruption that took place from 5 to 14 May 1706, about 8 kilometers south of the Garachico in the north of the island of Tenerife (Spain). The eruption destroyed the old port of Garachico (the most important of Tenerife at the time) and ended the golden period of the town.

The Caves of Don Gaspar (Spanish: Zona Arqueológica de la Cueva de Las Caves of Don Gaspar) is an important archaeological site located in the north of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). The cueva is located in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos. It consists of a series of deposits belonging to the ancient Guanche culture, which form an interrelated complex. The caves include the Cave of Don Gaspar itself, the Cave of Las Palomas and three nearby caves. They were inhabited by the aboriginal Guanche Berbers. In the Cave of Don Gaspar there are three levels of occupation, the oldest from the third century CE, while the occupation level in the Cave of Las Palomas is even older, dating back to the third century BCE.The caves are however famous for the discovery of plant debris in the form of carbonized seeds of wheat, barley and beans. This finding helps verify the practice of agriculture on the island of Tenerife in times of the Guanches.The cave is declared a Site of cultural interest by the Government of the Canary Islands.

Cueva del Viento ("Wind Cave") is the largest lava tube system in Europe, and the sixth largest in the world, behind a series of lava tubes in Hawaii. It is also considered the most complex volcanic tube in the world, due to its morphology of several levels and passages.It was created by lava flows from Pico Viejo, next to Mount Teide. The cave is located in the town of Icod de los Vinos in the north of the island of Tenerife, Spain. It extends more than 17 kilometres (11 mi) and contains three different levels of passageways, each full of geomorphological phenomena such as lava pits and terraces. The cave is rich in fossils of the "Canarian megafauna". Bones of Gallotia goliath and Canariomys bravoi, an extinct giant lizard and rat, respectively, have been discovered here. Archaeological remains belonging to the Guanches, the ancient Berber native inhabitants of the Canary Islands, were found in several entries to the tube system. At present, the Cueva del Viento is a tourist attraction of the island.

Drago Park (Spanish: Parque del Drago) is a park and one of the main visitor attractions in Icod de los Vinos, Tenerife. Created at the turn of the millennium, it contains El Drago Milenario, a dragon tree thought to be around 1,000 years old, as well as a variety of other native plants.

El Drago, also known as Drago Milenario and Drago de Icod de los Vinos, is the oldest and largest living specimen of Dracaena draco, or dragon tree, in Parque del Drago, Icod de los Vinos, Tenerife, Spain. It is said to be a thousand years old, although the age is disputed. It is one of the symbols of Tenerife, and was declared a national monument in 1917.

Museo Guanche is an ethnographic museum in Icod de los Vinos, Tenerife. It is focused on the Guanches, the native inhabitants of the Canary Islands. It is located in the 'La Magalona' shopping centre. It contains life-sized scenes of Guanche culture, and recreations of paintings and petroglyphs from various parts of the islands. As of 2020, entrance fees are €6 for adults, and €3 for children.

The Cave of the Guanches, or Archaeological area of the Cave of the Guanches (Spanish: Zona Arqueológica de la Cueva de los Guanches), is an important archaeological site located in the north of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain).

The Buenavista Lighthouse (Spanish: Faro de Buenavista), also known as the Punta de Buenavista lighthouse is an active lighthouse in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte on the northern coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This modern lighthouse, which has been described as being shaped like a corkscrew, is situated on a headland midway between the settlements of Buenavista del Norte and Los Silos. It is one of the seven main lighthouses which mark the coastline of Tenerife, and lies between two other lighthouses; Punta de Teno to the southwest, and Puerto de la Cruz to the northeast.
