Barger-Compascuum is a village in the Dutch municipality of Emmen. It is in a peat-producing region of Drenthe. Veenpark, an open-air museum, is dedicated to the peat history of the region. Borger-Compascuum is located in the Bourtange moor between Germany and the Netherlands. It was originally a compascuum (common pasture). In 1866, Barger-Compascuum was established, and the area was permanently inhabited.

Zwartemeer (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzʋɑrtəˌmeːr]) is a village in the Netherlands and it is part of the Emmen municipality in Drenthe. It is located on the border with Germany.

Klazienaveen is a town to the southeast of Emmen in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is located approx 5 km (3.1 mi) from the German border. Klazienaveen started as a peat colony owned by Willem Albert Scholten. It has been named after Klaassien Sluis, the wife of Scholten.

Museum Collectie Brands is a museum in Nieuw-Dordrecht, Drenthe. The museum contains a collection of over seventy thousand objects and books that were collected by Jans Brands (1932-2019) during his lifetime. The ‘crown jewel’ of the museum is a complete medieval register from 1382, which contains a summary of all the feudal lords and their holdings that had sworn fealty to the then bishop of Utrecht, Floris van Wevelinkhoven.

Emmer-Erfscheidenveen is a hamlet in the Netherlands and it is part of the Emmen municipality in Drenthe. The name translates to "bog property division of Emmen". In 1938, it was designated a hamlet and part of Emmer-Compascuum. Emmer-Erfscheidenveen has a sizeable population, a church and retail, therefore, it should have been considered a village. The postal authorities have put it under Emmer-Compascuum.

Grenszicht (English Border view) or Molen van Geerdink is a smock mill in Emmer-Compascuum, Netherlands. It was built in 1907. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 14690.

Bargerveen Nature Reserve is a nature reserve in the Dutch province of Drenthe that has been included in the Natura 2000 ecological network. Since 2006 it is part of the Internationaler Naturpark Bourtanger Moor-Bargerveen (engl. Bourtanger Moor-Bargerveen International Nature Park), a nature reserve located on both sides of the border between the Netherlands and Germany. Most of the transboundary nature reserve, some 134 km2 (52 sq mi), lies in Germany, in the west of the state of Lower Saxony. The sparsely populated landscape consists of large peat areas, heather, and small lakes. The Dutch part of the nature reserve was founded in 1992 as Natuurreservaat Bargerveen. It was designated as a Ramsar site (a wetland of international importance) the following year. Bargerveen has a size of 21 km2 (8.1 sq mi). It consists mainly of peat bog.

The King Willem-Alexander Canal (Dutch: Koning Willem-Alexanderkanaal), named after King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, is a 6 km long canal in the northeastern Netherlands. The new canal through the Hondsrug is part of the larger Veenvaart project to draw more recreational boaters and tourists to the Veenkoloniën region in the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen. The canal was originally to be called the Veenkanaal but was renamed on 8 June 2013 in honor of recently enthroned King Willem-Alexander.

De Oude Meerdijk (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˌʌudə meːrˈdɛik]) is a football stadium in Emmen, Netherlands. It is the home ground of FC Emmen. It has a capacity of 8,600.

Oranjedorp is a village in the Netherlands and it is part of the Emmen municipality in Drenthe. Oranjedorp started to develop when the Oranjekanaal was completed in 1858, and peat exploitation started in the area. In 1867, it was first mentioned as Oranjedorp. Even though the postal authorities have placed it under Nieuw-Dordrecht. it is considered a village. In 1932, it was home to 932 people. No church was built in Oranjedorp.In 1988, a gas desulfurization plant of the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij opened in Oranjedorp, and industry started to move to the village.
