Briton Ferry Llansawel AFC Ladies is a football team, playing in the Women's Welsh Premier League, to which they were promoted in 2018. Briton Ferry Llansawel run a senior ladies team, a ladies reserves team and a ladies youth team. The club plays its home matches at Old Road Ground, Briton Ferry, which has a capacity of 2,000. The team's first choice strip is red shirts, shorts and socks. The second choice strip is green shirts with white stripe, black shorts and socks.

Cwrt Sart Community Comprehensive was a school located in Briton Ferry, Neath, Wales. It was one of the secondary schools in Neath Port Talbot, taking pupils aged 11 to 16. It opened as a council school in 1920.

The Briton Ferry television relay station is sited on a hill to the east of Briton Ferry. It was originally built in the 1970s as a fill-in relay for UHF analogue colour television. It consists of a 25 m self-supporting lattice mast standing on a hillside which is itself about 180 m above sea level (about 150 m above the town). The transmitters are beamed towards the southwest and northwest to cater for those digital terrestrial TV subscribers in Briton Ferry and western Neath which for reasons of geography can't get a signal direct from the Kilvey Hill transmitter at Swansea nor from the relay transmitter at Neath Abbey across the valley. The Briton Ferry transmission station is owned and operated by Arqiva. Briton Ferry transmitter re-radiates the signal received off-air from Kilvey Hill about 15 km to the west. When it came, the digital switchover process for Briton Ferry duplicated the timing at Kilvey Hill with the first stage taking place on Wednesday 12 August 2009 and the second stage was completed on Wednesday 9 September 2009, with the Kilvey Hill transmitter-group becoming the first in Wales to complete digital switchover. After the switchover process, analogue channels had ceased broadcasting permanently and the Freeview digital TV services were radiated at an ERP of 4 W each.

Briton Ferry East is bounded by the wards of Briton Ferry West to the west; Neath East and Cimla to the north; Pelenna to the east; Bryn and Cwmavon to the southeast; and Baglan to the south. Most of Briton Ferry East consists of open grassland and woodland with a residential and commercial strip to the far west of the ward.

Briton Ferry railway station is a minor station in the village of Briton Ferry, south Wales. It is 206 miles 40 chains (332.3 km) from the zero point at London Paddington, measured via Stroud. The station is located at ground level at Shelone Road in Briton Ferry. It is a stop on the South Wales Main Line, served by Transport for Wales Swanline regional trains between Swansea and Cardiff. The station is sited within the Cwrt Sart junction complex where the Swansea District Line meets the South Wales Main Line. The present station opened on 1 June 1994, which replaced an earlier station that closed to passengers on 2 November 1964 and to goods services on 6 September 1965.

Neath East includes some or all of the neighbourhoods of Melincryddan, Pencaerau, Penrhiwtyn in the parliamentary constituency of Neath. It is bounded by the wards of Coedffranc Central to the northwest; Dyffryn and Neath North to the north; Neath South and Cimla to the east; and Briton Ferry West and Briton Ferry East to the south. The ward contains marshland to the west, an industrial and residential area in the middle and grassland and woodland to the east.

Briton Ferry (Welsh: Llansawel) is a town and community in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, Wales. The Welsh name may indicate that the church, llan, is protected from the wind, awel. Alternatively, Sawel may be a derivative of Saul, St Paul's earlier name. He once landed at Briton Ferry. An alternative Welsh name unused today is Rhyd y Brython, a direct translation of Briton Ferry. The Normans referred to the River crossing as La Brittonne and Leland in 1540 as Britanne Fery.

The community of the parish of Neath had a population of 19,258 in 2011. Historically in Glamorgan, the town is located on the River Neath, seven miles (eleven kilometres) east-northeast of Swansea.
