Market Street, Cambridge

Green Street is a street known for its shops and restaurants in central Cambridge, England. It runs between St John's Street and Trinity Street at the western end and Sidney Street at the eastern end. Opposite the west end is Trinity College and opposite the east end is Sidney Sussex College. The street is probably named after the owner of the land when the first houses were built on the street.W. Metcalfe and Son was a printer and publisher in Cambridge during the 19th century and early 20th century, with an office on Green Street for part of this period. In 1854, the publishers George Bell & Sons acquired Deighton's offices on Green Street and also Trinity Street.

The Cambridge Biomedical Campus, one of the largest biomedical research clusters in the world, includes the headquarters of AstraZeneca and the relocated Royal Papworth Hospital.The first game of association football took place at Parker's Piece. The Strawberry Fair music and arts festival and Midsummer Fair are held on Midsummer Common, and the annual Cambridge Beer Festival takes place on Jesus Green. The city is adjacent to the M11 and A14 roads. Cambridge station is less than an hour from London King's Cross railway station.

Petty Cury is a pedestrianised shopping street in central Cambridge, England. It connects Market Hill, the location of Cambridge's central outdoor market, and Guildhall Street to the west with the shopping streets of Sidney Street and St Andrew's Street to the east. Hobson Street leads off north on the opposite side of the street at the eastern end, on the corner of Christ's College, one of the historic University of Cambridge colleges.

Sidney Street is a major street in central Cambridge, England. It runs between Bridge Street at the junction with Jesus Lane to the northwest and St Andrew's Street at the junction with Hobson Street to the southeast. On the northeastern side of the street is the University of Cambridge college Sidney Sussex College. Opposite the college, Green Street, another shopping street, leads off to the west. To the southeast of the college is Sussex Street. On the corner is the tall and distinctive Montagu House, part of Sidney Sussex College. Holy Trinity Church is on the southwestern side, on the southern corner with Market Street.

Guildhall Street is a street in central Cambridge, England. To the north is the southeast corner of Market Hill at the junction with the pedestrianised shopping street Petty Cury. To the south it continues as Guildhall Place, a cul-de-sac, at the junction with Wheeler Street, close to the northern end of Corn Exchange Street. To the west is the Cambridge Guildhall, hence the name of the street. To the east is the Lion Yard shopping centre. Fisher House in Guildhall Street is a Grade II listed late 16th / early 17th century timber-framed building that houses the Cambridge University Catholic Chaplaincy. The Red Cow public house is also Grade II listed, built in 1898 in a Jacobethan style. There is an outdoor sculpture, Talos, by Michael Ayrton in c. 1960, installed in Guildhall Street around 1973.

It includes two halls, The Large Hall and The Small Hall, and is used for many disparate events such as comedy acts, conferences, craft fairs, live music, talks, and weddings. It is also used by the University of Cambridge for certain examinations. It is owned and managed by the Cambridge City Council, and it is their seat of government. The Guildhall is located on the south side of Market Hill, the market square in Cambridge, between Peas Hill to the west and Guildhall Street to the east. It is a Grade II listed building.

The Cambridge University Catholic Chaplaincy, known as Fisher House after its patron, English martyr and Cambridge chancellor St John Fisher, is the Catholic chaplaincy for members of the University of Cambridge in England. Founded in 1896, since 1924 it has been located on the site of a former inn on Guildhall Street in Cambridge's city centre. The present Chaplain is Fr Paul Keane.

The Cambridgeshire Collection is a UK local government institution and part of the Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridgeshire Libraries Local Studies service. It is housed within Cambridge Central Library It collects printed, published and illustrative material relating to the modern county of Cambridgeshire, which includes the former counties of Huntingdonshire and the Isle of Ely. Founded as part of the Free Library in 1855, it is the county's reference Local Studies collection. In 1975 it moved into Lion Yard, Cambridge where it is located on the third floor of Cambridge Central Library. The Cambridgeshire Collection is a reference collection of mainly secondary (printed and published) material; primary documents (original, manuscript) being held in the County Archives at Ely and Huntingdon. Formerly, the service was part of the Cambridgeshire Archives and Local Studies, before these were split, with the archives eventually moving to their new home in 2019.The Collection is of use to family, local and social historians.
