Bharathiar University is a public state university in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Named after Tamil poet Subramania Bharati, the university was established in February 1982 under the provision of Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982) and was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1985. Bharathiar University celebrated its silver jubilee celebrations on 24 February 2007. The president of India, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, and the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi, were chief guests. Bharathiar University provides graduate, masters, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs in various subjects. The university is known for its stringent Phd evaluation guidelines.

The Marudhamalai Murugan Temple, or the Maruthamalai Marudhachalamurthy Temple, is a 12th-century hill temple situated in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Built by Tamil kings during the Sangam period as indicated in the Purananuru, the temple is dedicated to Murugan, a form of Kartikeya. It is traditionally regarded to be the seventh in the list of the Six Abodes of Murugan. Like most Murugan temples, the temple is situated upon a hill, part of the Western Ghats about 12 km west from the centre of the city of Coimbatore. Thaipusam and other festivals dedicated to the deity are celebrated here. On many evenings, devotees gather for a procession of Murugan sitting in a chariot (ratha yatra) and encircle the temple. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Anna University Regional Campus, Coimbatore is a regional campus of Anna University. It offers full time UG and PG courses in university campus in Coimbatore along with more than 40 degree programmes through its Distance Education Arm Directorate of Online and Distance Education. It was established in 2007.
