Dishforth Airfield

Royal Air Force Dishforth or more simply RAF Dishforth is a former Royal Air Force station near Thirsk in North Yorkshire, England. Opened in 1936, the base was used as a bomber airfield during the Second World War with both British and Canadian squadrons flying missions from the airfield. After the war, the base was used by various squadrons and training units before being disposed of in 1992 and handed over to the Army Air Corps.

Marton-le-Moor is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. It is very near the A1(M) motorway, 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Ripon and 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Boroughbridge. The name of the village derives from a mixture of Latin, Old English and Old Norse; Marr tūn super mōr, which means marsh farm (or settlement) on the moor. According to the 2001 UK census, Marton-le-Moor parish had a population of 174, increasing to 182 in the 2011 Census. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated the population of the village to be 190. Village affairs are conducted by the Parish Council. Social functions are held regularly and organised by the Village Meeting Room committee which converted the Blacksmith shop to be used as a local community hall. The grade II listed St Mary's church, which was built in 1830, is now no longer in regular use for worship, having been declared redundant in 2004. During 2009, it was offered for sale without any mains electric or water connection, and a promise made by the buyer "not to disturb any human remains in the grounds". The Parish Council is going to turn the unused part of St Mary's churchyard into a community garden to benefit all sectors of the community, especially older people and mothers with toddlers.

The Vale of York services (also known as Kirby Hill services) is a future motorway service area (MSA) on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire, England. The MSA will be located on the western side of the motorway between Junctions 48 and 49, with access to both the northbound and southbound carriageways. The planning application has been submitted multiple times between 2001 and 2021.

Kirby-on-the-Moor, also called Kirby, is a village in the Kirby Hill civil parish about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the market town of Boroughbridge, in North Yorkshire, England. It was formerly in the Harrogate district until 2023.

Norton-le-Clay is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated near the A1(M) motorway and 2 miles (3.2 km) north-west of Boroughbridge. It is one of the Thankful Villages that suffered no fatalities during the Great War of 1914 to 1918.

Rainton is a village in the Harrogate borough of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated about 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Boroughbridge, 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Ripon and 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Thirsk. The area has a village green and a maypole. There are approximately 120 houses in Rainton including six listed buildings, several period farm houses, a smithy and a dovecote. The local vernacular building style is sandstone and cobble construction with slate or pantile roof.

Langthorpe is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was 812. It is situated to the immediate north of Boroughbridge on the A168 road.

Skelton-on-Ure or Skelton is a village and civil parish in the district and county of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated 1.9 miles (3 km) west of Boroughbridge, near the A1(M) motorway. There is one village pub called The Black Lion, a primary school, and one Village Store including a Post Office counter. The main entrance to Newby Hall Estate is situated at the south end of the village. It was used as a location in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park (2007) broadcast by PBS in its Complete Jane Austen series. North-east of the village is Skelton Windmill, a Georgian windmill that was owned by the Newby Hall estate. Completed in 1822, the grade II listed building was used to grind corn and other cereals and is the best example of such a windmill left in North Yorkshire.

The Church of Christ the Consoler is a Victorian Gothic Revival church built in the Early English style by William Burges. It is located in the grounds of Newby Hall at Skelton-on-Ure, in North Yorkshire, England. Burges was commissioned by George Robinson, 1st Marquess of Ripon, to build it as a tribute to the Marquess' brother-in-law, Frederick Vyner. The church is a Grade I listed building as of 6 March 1967, and was vested in the Churches Conservation Trust on 14 December 1991.

The Spectre of Newby Church (or the Newby Monk) is the name given to a figure found in a photograph taken in the Church of Christ the Consoler, on the grounds of Newby Hall in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The image was taken in 1963 by the Reverend Kenneth F. Lord. As the figure appears to resemble a human, much speculation has been had regarding what type of person might be in the image. Most speculation by believers has concluded that it resembles a 16th-century monk, with a white shroud over his face, possibly to mask leprosy or another disfigurement. Others contend that it is an accomplice in a costume. Initial claims suggested that the figure would measure at 9 feet tall, but its feet are not visible and it could easily be standing on a box, giving the impression of height. On looking over the image, purported photographic experts have concluded that the image is not the result of double exposure, although Rick Burden, founder of the Ghost Hunters of Australia website, believes to be "probably fake." It resembles many other double exposure hoaxes.

Asenby is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England, with a population of 285 (2001 census), increasing to 311 at the 2011 census. The village is about 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Thirsk and 7 miles (11 km) east of Ripon. It is 12 miles (19 km) south of the County Town of Northallerton on the south bank of the River Swale.

Boroughbridge railway station served the town of Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, England from 1847 to 1964 on the Pilmoor, Boroughbridge and Knaresborough Railway. The original station was a terminus with an east facing line, heading towards Pilmoor Junction on the East Coast Main Line. In 1875, the line was extended westwards to meet the line at Knaresborough.
