Vazhuthacaud

Bhakti Vilas, also known as Bhakti Vilasom, was a state palace in Travancore, at Vazhuthacaud, in the capital Thiruvananthapuram, India, built at the end of the 19th century. It was formally the secondary official residence of the Diwan of Travancore outside of the royal fort complex, the primary official residence being Padma Vilas, but widely preferred by most Diwans. The style, that of a bungalow, hybridized traditional Malayali kovilakam architecture with western elements: the palace featured a traditional nadumuttam, or interior courtyard, but one spatially differing from the classical atrium of a Nālukettu. Bhakti Vilas further accented its semicircular arches with pilasters of a modified Ionic order. During the premiership of Sir C.P. Ramaswami Iyer, Bhakti Vilas was placed at his disposal as one of his official residences, although he extraordinarily also enjoyed Kanakakunnu Palace as his primary official residence. In 1952 Travancore Radio became All India Radio Thiruvananthapuram and its office shifted from Palayam to Bhakti Vilas Palace.

Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram is a public college situated in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The Trivandrum Observatory or Thiruvananthapuram Astronomical Observatory is a scientific and astronomical observation station that was established by the Raja of Travancore Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma in 1836-37. The Raja wrote to the British Resident, Colonel James Stuart Fraser, an amateur scientist proposing the establishment of an astronomical observatory. This led to John Caldecott who earlier ran a small personal observatory at Allepey being appointed as the royal astronomer. The observatory was located on the highest point in the city and opposite the palace and was considered important as the magnetic equator at that time passed through Trivandrum. The observatory was designed by Lieutenant W H Horsley of the Madras Engineers.Caldecott also began taking meteorological measurements from July 1837 and expanded to another building in 1842 that housed a Dollond equatorial circle. A Travancore Almanac was published in 1838. Caldecott travelled to Europe in 1839 to obtain additional instruments and during this period the observatory was headed by Sperschneider. Caldecott died in 1849 and from January 1852 it was headed by John Allan Broun. Broun and his assistants including J. Kochukunju (Cochoocoonjoo) and E. Kochiravi (Cocheravey) Pillai and several "computers" helped publish the Trivandrum Magnetic Observations in 1874.The observatory is now a part of the University of Kerala.

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Thiruvananthapuram (C-DAC(T)) is a branch of the Indian Centre for Development of Advanced Computing based in Thiruvananthapuram. It was previously known as the Electronic Research and Development Center (ER & DCI) and was started as part of science and technology policy of C. Achutha Menon in 1970's.It is a National Centre of Excellence, pioneering application oriented research, design and development in Electronics and Information Technology.The centre has contributed to the electronics sector through the indigenous development of systems and products, foreign technology absorption, adaptation and upgrades, consultancy and training and turnkey implementation of contract projects.

Beemapally is a region within the city of Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala, India. Beemapally is famous for its mosque, Beemapally Dargah Shareef, which houses the tomb of Syedunnisa Beema Beevi, a woman believed to have divine powers, and her son Syedu Shuhada Maheen Abubacker. Every year there is a festival held to venerate Beema Beevi which attracts thousands of pilgrims from all faiths and castes. The tomb of Beema Beevi, the lady with miraculous powers who is believed to belong to the Prophet Mohammed’s family, is located at the mosque.

Ayiroor (also : Ayroor) is a suburb of Varkala Town in Thiruvananthapuram district in the state of Kerala, India. It is situated 4.6 km (2.9 mi) north-east of Varkala Town along State Highway 64. The headquarters of Elakamon Panchayat is situated in Ayiroor.This village is famous for its temples namely Anjumurthy temple, Palaninnapoyka Subramanyaswamy temple, Valiyaveetil Bhadrakali Temple, Ayiravilly temple, Thrimballur temple, and Kochu Thampuratty temple. These temples are famous for their yearly festivals conducted in between the month of January to March. The name 'Ayiroor' itself originates from 'Anjumurthy', which means five idols. Ayiroor is on the banks of the river Ayiroorpuzha, one of the smallest rivers in Kerala after Manjeshwaram puzha. On the south-west side of this village passes the Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur Canal. Educational institutions include Ayiroor Anganwadi, Government Upper Primary School, Government Higher Secondary School Palayamkunnu and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Model School. There are a few private hospitals. Varkala-Ayiroor-Parippally and Varkala-Ayiroor-Paravoor roads pass through this village. The people of Ayiroor are generally employed in the service sector. A large proportion of them work outside India. There are a few cashew nut factories in this village. The nearest railway station is in Varkala. The village has three post offices and one telephone exchange.
