Tahmoor is a small town in the Macarthur Region of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, in Wollondilly Shire.

Tahmoor railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main South line in the town of Tahmoor, part of the Wollondilly Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999 where it is also known as the Tahmoor Railway Station Group and Lupton's Inn. The station opened on 13 July 1919 at the same time as a new alignment between Picton and Mittagong railway stations.

Pheasants Nest is a small village in the Macarthur Region of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, in Wollondilly Shire. It has a north bound and south bound roadhouse on the Hume Highway. At the 2016 census, Pheasants Nest had a population of 688 people. Pheasants Nest also serves as a freeway exit between Picton and Yerrinbool. Pheasants Nest was named after the Lyrebird, local to the Bargo area, which was mistakenly called a pheasant by early explorers.

Wilton Park is a heritage-listed farm located at Wilton Park Road in the south-western Sydney settlement of Wilton in the Wollondilly Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was possibly designed by Albert Bond and built in 1892. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

The Bargo Railway Viaduct is a heritage-listed railway viaduct over the Bargo River located on the Main South railway approximately 96 kilometres (60 mi) from Central, in the south-western Sydney settlement of Bargo in the Wollondilly Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The viaduct was designed by New South Wales Government Railways and built in 1919. It is also known as Bargo River Railway Viaduct. The property is owned by Transport Asset Holding Entity, an agency of the Government of New South Wales. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

Tahmoor Colliery is an underground coal mine at Tahmoor in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia. It operates in the Bulli coal seam. Most of the mine product is hard coking coal used for steel making. A small quantity of steaming blend coal used for power generation is also produced. Both products are exported to Europe and Asia.Construction of the mine was commenced by Clutha Development in 1975 with it opened in 1980 by BP that had purchased Clutha. It was sold to Conzinc Riotinto Australia in 1989, Austal Coal in 1997, Centennial Coal in 2005, Xstrata in 2007 and Glencore in 2013 and SIMEC Group in 2018.The mine was reported in 2017 as having 57 Mt (56,000,000 long tons; 63,000,000 short tons) of reserves and 650 Mt (640,000,000 long tons; 720,000,000 short tons) total resource.The colliery is connected to the Main Southern railway line via a balloon loop that opened in May 1981.In 2013, extension of the mine was anticipated to take below a railway tunnel on the Main Southern railway line. To avoid the risk of subsidence within the tunnel, Xstrata funded the construction of a diversion around Redbank Hill to remove trains from the tunnel, which was filled with rock and sealed.

Maldon was a closed railway station on the Main South railway line in New South Wales, Australia. The station originally opened in 1889 as Wilton, renamed as Maldon a year later. It closed in 1976. South of the station site lay sidings to a cement works, whilst to the north of the station is the site of the incomplete junction of the unfinished Maldon – Dombarton railway line.

The Wirrimbirra Sanctuary is a heritage-listed fauna sanctuary, native plant nursery, education centre and flora sanctuary located off the Hume Highway at 1305 Remembrance Drive, in outer south-western Sydney in the settlement of Bargo in the Wollondilly Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was built in 1962 by the Stead Foundation. The property is owned by the National Trust of Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 1 March 2002.

Picton is a small town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia, in the Wollondilly Shire, in south-western Sydney. The town is located approximately 90 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD, close to Camden and Campbelltown. It is also the administrative centre of Wollondilly Shire.

Wollondilly Shire is a periurban local government area, located on the south west fringe of the Greater Sydney area in New South Wales, Australia, parts of which fall into the Macarthur, Blue Mountains and Central Tablelands regions in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Wollondilly is seen as the transition between Regional NSW and the Greater Sydney Region, and is variously categorised as part of both. Wollondilly Shire was created by proclamation in the NSW Government Gazette on 7 March 1906, following the passing of the Local Government (Shires) Act 1905, and amalgamated with the Municipality of Picton on 1 May 1940. Wollondilly Shire is named after the Wollondilly River. The area is traversed by the Hume Highway and the Southern Highlands railway line. Wollondilly Shire contains several small towns and villages broken up by farms and sandstone gorges. To its west is wilderness and includes the Nattai Wilderness and the Burragorang Valley. The majority of the Shire is either national park or forms part of the water catchment for Sydney's water supply. The Shire provides 97% of Sydney's water supply. The Mayor of Wollondilly Shire is Cr. Matt Gould, an independent politician.
