Aongatete River

Aongatete is a settlement and rural community in the Western Bay of Plenty District and Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located on State Highway 2, south of Katikati and north-west of Ōmokoroa. The landscape consists of a long valley descending into the Tauranga Harbour.The local Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park, managed by the Department of Conservation, including walks through puriri and kohekohe forest, along the Aongatete Stream, and to swimming holes. Ngai Tamawhariua are guardians of the 500 hectare native forest, and a Forest and Bird volunteer group helps maintain it. A restoration trust was established in 2006 to trap or poison pests like stoats, rats, cats and possums.The Aongatete Lodge and Outdoor Education Centre, located in the forest, hosts school camps and events like the International Juggling Association Oceania Competition.The settlement includes Aongatete Coolstores, a kiwifruit orcharding, packing and coolstore business. Seeka Limited, a produce company listed on the NZX, purchased the business for $25 million in March 2019.Vodafone installed a cell tower at Aongatete in January 2014. Ultra fast broadband internet was introduced to Aongatete in December 2019.During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, a local couple tried to cheer up the community with humorous displays featuring teddy bears.

The Wainui River is a river of the Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows north from the Kaimai Range to reach Tauranga Harbour 10 kilometres (6 mi) south of Katikati. The catchment has 191 km (119 mi) of stream margins. 41% of the catchment remains covered in native bush, but 48% is under pasture and suffers soil erosion.The river includes 3 waterfalls of up to 10 m (33 ft), which have been kayaked.The 210 ft (64 m) long former East Coast Main Trunk railway bridge is designated as the limit of the Coastal Marine Area. Downstream, a 3-span 31 m (102 ft) bridge takes SH2 over the river.

Fairview or Fairview Estate is a rural settlement in the Western Bay of Plenty District and Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is about 5.5 km south of Katikati, and is marketed as a lifestyle subdivision.

Katikati College is a co-educational Year 7 to 13 school. It is located in the town of Katikati which is approximately 40 km (25 mi) northwest of the city of Tauranga in the Western Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand.

Katikati is a town in New Zealand (North Island) located on the Uretara Stream near a tidal inlet towards the northern end of Tauranga Harbour, 28 kilometres south of Waihi and 40 kilometres northwest of Tauranga. State Highway 2 passes through the town; a bypass scheduled to have begun construction in 2008 is on hold.Katikati has become known for its many murals painted on walls of commercial buildings. These were started in the 1990s to regenerate tourist interest in the town and district, and led to the town being recognised New Zealand's 'Most Beautiful Small Town' award for towns of less than 8,000 population in 2005 by the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Society.In 2018, Katikati was named "Avocado Capital of New Zealand [1]. Besides its avocado orchards, there are many kiwi-fruit orchards in and around Katikati. There are hot springs three kilometres to the south of Katikati at Sapphire Springs.

Kauri Point is a rural settlement in the Western Bay of Plenty District and Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is on a headland on the eastern side of Tauranga Harbour, opposite Matakana Island.A coastal walkway through Kauri Point Historic Reserve connects Kauri Point to Ongare Point. There are mature pōhutakawa trees and three pā sites in the reserve. A 200 metre long wooden jetty, built after 1947, provides fishing access to the harbour.Dorothy Morris was a pioneer of the kiwifruit industry in New Zealand who she converted her dairy farm on Kauri Point Road to kiwifruit in the 1950s.George Vesey Stewart, who organised settlement of Katikati in the 1870s, initially planned for the town to be established at Kauri Point. The settlement at Kauri Point did not eventuate until the 1970s.

Tahawai is a rural community in the Western Bay of Plenty District and Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island. State Highway 2 runs through it. A peninsula on the eastern side of the area in Tauranga Harbour ends with the small settlements of Tuapiro Point, Ongare Point and Kauri Point, with a walkway between the latter two. A smaller peninsula further north ends at Tanners Point.

Ōmokoroa is a small urban area in the Western Bay of Plenty District of New Zealand. The suburb is considered part of Greater Tauranga (contributing towards its population of 161,800), and is within the Coromandel electorate. Ōmokoroa began as a small rural holiday village, but is expanding to be a commuter town, with a 25-minute drive to Tauranga City. Ōmokoroa urban area had a population of 3210 as of 2018, and is designated as an area of special housing growth. With the rural area to the south, it is expected to reach a population of 12,000 by 2020–2030, and is situated within the Kaimai Ward, Western Bay of Plenty. Ōmokoroa includes the urban area on the harbour side of State Highway 2, along with Youngson Road to Plummers Point Road, and parts of Old Highway Road.

Ongare Point is a rural settlement in the Western Bay of Plenty District and Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is on a headland on the eastern side of Tauranga Harbour, southeast of Katikati Entrance and opposite Matakana Island.A coastal walkway through a reserve connects Ongare Point to Kauri Point. There is a small sandy beach.Ngāi Te Rangi's Ōngare Pā was attacked in 1842 by a war party of 50 men led by Tāraia Ngākuti Te Tumuhuia. The local chief Te Whanake and several followers were killed.

Plummers Point is a rural settlement in the Western Bay of Plenty District and Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is on a headland on the southern side of Tauranga Harbour, opposite Motuhoa Island, and between Mangawhai Bay and Te Puna Estuary. The East Coast Main Trunk forms its southern boundary.Ongarahu Pā is on 12 to 15 metre-high cliffs at the northern end. It is well-preserved and a tourist attraction.

Te Puna West is a rural settlement in the Western Bay of Plenty District and Bay of Plenty Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is on a headland on the southern side of Tauranga Harbour, opposite Motuhoa Island, and on the eastern side of Te Puna Estuary, across from Plummers Point. The East Coast Main Trunk forms its southern boundary.Waitui Reserve is a grassy area with a boat ramp at the point of the headland.

Motuhoa Island is in the western Bay of Plenty of New Zealand's North Island, in Tauranga Harbour, over 2 km (1.2 mi) long, up to 35 m (115 ft) high and about 1.25 km (0.78 mi) southeast of Ōmokoroa, with 5 km (3.1 mi) of low cliff, which on the north is up to 8 m (26 ft) high, with almost no vegetation. A boat ramp is near the east tip of the island, on the north shore. For the 2018 census, the island had a population too small to record. Shore skinks live on the beaches.
