Upleward

Hamswehrum is a village in the region of East Frisia, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is part of the municipality of Krummhörn. The village is located between Upleward and Groothusen. The village is first mentioned in a written source in 1375 and was probably founded by the inhabitants of a disappeared place (Hamswehr or Hayenswehr). Buildings such as the Geele Börg ('Yellow Castle') appear again and again in the history of the place. Nowadays, only a farm named after this castle remains a reminder of this. The 15th-century church was demolished in 1967 and replaced by a new church the following year: the current St. Maria's Church.

Campen is a village in the region of East Frisia, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is part of the municipality of Krummhörn. Although Campen is only a small village, it still has two churches: the Reformed village church from the thirteenth century and a Old-Reformed church from 1905. Near the village is the Campen lighthouse. It was built in 1889 and has been in use since 1891. It is 65.3 meters high, making it the tallest lighthouse in Germany.The village of Campen was first attested as Campe maiori in the 10th century.

Groothusen is an old Langwurtendorf – a village on an artificially-built ridge – in the municipality of Krummhörn in western East Frisia on Germany's North Sea coast. It lies about 15 kilometres northwest of the seaport of Emden and has a population of 474 (2006). The ridge or warf has a length of about 500 metres and a width of some 130 metres and was built to raise the village above the water level should flooding from the sea occur, for instance, during a storm tide.

Loquard is an old village in the region of East Frisia, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is part of the municipality of Krummhörn. It is a traditionally Lutheran village. The village, built on a warft was first mentioned in the 10th century, although archaeological findings suggest the place might already have been inhabited in the 8th or 9th century. The Church of Loquard, built on the warft, dates from the 13th century.

Campen Lighthouse is an active lighthouse in the village of Campen, by the Ems estuary, northwest of Emden, in the East Frisia region, state of Lower Saxony, Germany. At a height of 213 feet (65 m) it is the fourteenth tallest "traditional lighthouse" in the world and the tallest in Germany.The structure consists of a free-standing lattice tower with the stair shaft inside. The lighthouse was built in 1889 and went in service on 1 October 1891. The lamp of Campen Lighthouse has a light intensity of 4.5 million candelas, the most powerful lighthouse lamp in Germany. Remarkably, the aperture of its flashing light to the left and right has an angle of only 0.3 degrees. The continuous light aperture is also quite small, less than 0.6 degrees. The machine building contains the oldest workable diesel engine in Germany. It was built in 1906 and has a power of 15 kilowatts.

Manslagt is a village in the region of East Frisia, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is part of the municipality of Krummhörn. The village is located between Pilsum and Groothusen. Manslagt was historically located on an island in the former Bay of Sielmönken and was built on a warft. It was first mentioned around the 11th century. The Church of Manslagt dates from around 1400.

Krummhörn is a municipality in the district of Aurich, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated near the Ems estuary, approximately 15 km southwest of Norden, and 10 km northwest of Emden. Woquard (East Frisian Low Saxon: Wokert) is a village in the region of East Frisia, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is part of the municipality of Krummhörn. The village is located just to the west of Pewsum, bordering its urban area. Woquard is the smallest village in the municipality. It is first mentioned in 1632, under the name Wachtwert. The Woquard coat of arms reflects the history of the village. The colors blue and yellow refer to the Swedish royal family and recall Catherine Vasa of Sweden. The lion refers to the chieftains' coat of arms of the Manninga family; the fleur-de-lis from the crest to the Counts Cirksena; the star can be associated with the ancient coat of arms of Norden.The expression "Wokert is 'n Rad" ('Woquard is a wheel') refers to the streets of the village, which resemble the spokes of a wheel, with St. Mary's Church as the center. The oldest church bell in East Frisia hangs in the tower of the church, which dates from 1789. There used to be a castle on the west side of the church, but it was destroyed by a chieftain of Pewsum.

Rysum is a village located 15 kilometers west of Emden in the region of East Frisia, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is part of the municipality of Krummhörn. The village is home to the Rysum organ, one of the earliest pipe organs in playable condition. The village, built on a warft, was first mentioned in the 10th century. The Church of Rysum dates from the 15th century.

The Rysum organ in Rysum Church in Rysum, north Germany, is the oldest instrument of its kind in northern Europe that still largely has its original pipes. It is also one of the oldest playable church organs in the world alongside those in Sion, St. Valentin in Kiedrich, and Ostönnen. The exact date of its construction is not entirely known, but dates of 1457 and 1440 have been proposed. It was rebuilt in 1513. After undergoing several other modifications through the years it was restored to its 1513 condition by Jürgen Ahrend and Gerhard Brunzema in 1959. The organ has seven stops on one manual.

Woltzeten is a village in the region of East Frisia, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is part of the municipality of Krummhörn. The village consists of two built-up areas, Woltzeten in the west and Woltzetener Vorwerk in the east. The village is located on a warft, three kilometers south of Pewsum and about eight kilometers northwest of the city of Emden. The current church of Woltzeten was built in 1727. Before that there was a larger church, which had to be demolished in 1725 due to dilapidation. This predecessor church probably dates from the 12th century. A Premonstratensian monastery stood in the village from the 15th to 16th century, which probably bore the name Blauhaus, named after the color of its roof. An earlier monastery in Woltzeten was lost in a storm flood in the 13th century.
