Schloss Rosegg is a castle in Rosegg, Carinthia, Austria. Schloss Rosegg is 478 metres (1,568 ft) above sea level.The original castle was known as Altrosegg, built in the 12/13th centuries as a hilltop fort near lake Wörthersee. The current castle was built in 1772 by the Austrian noble Prince Franz Seraph von Orsini-Rosenberg of the house of Orsini-Rosenberg, the castle was built with Italianate architecture in mind, the furniture in the mansion are still from the 18th century. The second owner was Peter Ritter von Bohr who was acquainted with Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor in Austria, however Bohr was convicted of producing counterfeit money, and only lived in Rosegg for 2 years. The third and current owners of the castle have been a Royal family descending from the House of Liechtenstein. The mansion was purchased by Johann I Joseph, Prince of Liechtenstein in 1831 for one of his sons. The castle features a large wildlife park (zoo) with many animals, tours of the castle with rooms displays and life-size wax figures in period clothing, and also large hedge maze (labyrinth). Other activities include contemporary art exhibits, summer events, concerts, theater programs and there is also cafe.

Karawanks Tunnel (railway)

The Karawanks Tunnel (German: Karawankentunnel, Slovene: Predor Karavanke) is the fourth longest railway tunnel in Austria and the longest in Slovenia with a length of 7,976 metres (26,168 ft) (4.96 miles). It passes under Rožca Saddle between Rosenbach in southern Austria and Jesenice in northern Slovenia. Upon opening in October 1906, the Karawanks Tunnel formed an important element of the Karawanken Railway, which was - together with the Bohinj Railway - constructed to connect the port of Trieste with Klagenfurt, the capital of the federal state of Carinthia in Austria. Despite the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which had been a driving force for its construction, the line and tunnel alike continued to be a well-trafficked route largely used by freight trains travelling between Austria and Slovenia. During the twenty-first century, the Karawanks Tunnel underwent extensive modernisation, being rationalised from a twin-track layout to a single track to comply with modern safety standards.

The Karawanks Tunnel (German: Karawankentunnel, Slovene: Predor Karavanke or Karavanški predor) is a motorway tunnel crossing the Alpine Karawanks mountain range between Austria and Slovenia, with a total length of 7.864 km (4.886 mi; 25,800 ft), 8.019 km (4.983 mi; 26,310 ft) enclosure between the portals. Its construction began in 1986 and it opened on 1 June 1991. It connects the Austrian Karawanken Autobahn (A11) from Villach with the A2 motorway leading to Kranj and Ljubljana in Slovenia, decongesting the historic Loibl/Ljubelj and Wurzen/Korensko sedlo mountain passes.
